Who is responsible for introducing these new safety standards rules? Is it the EU or is it non EU countries? The UK voted to leave the EU in order to rid itself of control by the unelected EU Commission,the same unelected commission who make all the rules that affect us all. The UK never got the brexit it voted for,not one bit. Don't blame the people who voted to get away. Look at us now with this new government..they want to drag us back into the EU whilst the EU is falling apart at the seams.
@EdgyNumber111 сағат бұрын
Quick note on GPSR: Primarily the reason for bringing this in is because the EU have woken up to the fact that China have been taking the piis - to put it bluntly - sending stuff over which is, quite frankly, dangerous and no one has been been enforcing the rules on product safety. TEMU and Alibaba are quite squarely placed in their sights but thia also applies to the likes of Amazon, where their standards have been slipping of late. GPRS applies to ALL products for import into the EU and EEA including Switzerland, Luxembourg and Andorra among other places.

We've had a postal strike in Canada since November 15th! A lot of small businesses are suffering and other companies who take charity donations are also suffering. It has been said that there are around "a couple million" parcels stuck because of the strike. Which I think is an understatement as they go through nearly that much in a day this time of year. It is likely post offices in other countries were told to not send anything to us. And an estimated 185k passports are also stuck. Supposedly, they're back to work tomorrow but they've got their work cut out for them! I have been waiting on a number of items including the HubNut callendar. Good thing it is for next year!

"People in Northern Ireland..their items have to match the standards in the EU". I don't know who told you that rubbish Ian but it is completely wrong. Yes, for items going to the EU the border is in the Irish Sea supposedly, but anything going to N. Ireland is still treated as posting within the UK. As I posted in one of your other videos, you need to have serious words with whatever shipping company you are using. NONE of these new rules applies to N. Ireland as N. Ireland is still part of the UK and can't be treated any differently due to The Windsor Framework which states categorically that N. Ireland is to be treated the same as the rest of the UK. I am in N. Ireland and have ordered a mountain of stuff from Amazon, Millets, Ebay and other companies. None of which have refused delivery to N. Ireland on the basis of these new rules. You have been given the wrong information.

Looking longer-term, by 2035 the UK is anticipated to have three million fewer jobs, 32% lower investment, 5% lower exports and 16% lower imports, than it would if we had remained within the EU. Good to hear a reasoned Brexit argument that didn’t resort to shouting! Seriously, I’m sorry for all UK businesses struggling with the aftermath of Brexit, which is gradually drip-feeding more and more hassle and expense to those trading across The Channel. It’s particularly impacting small businesses like yours as you point out Ian. I’ve taken early retirement, but when the Brexit referendum took place I worked for a large international company with European headquarters in Rolle, Switzerland and Global Headquarters in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the US. Even within our own company I realised the importance of ease of trade and movement across borders. Every day dozens if not more of us were travelling across borders for meetings and conferences. I realised the issues Brexit would cause even within our business, let alone dealing with customers and the like. Brexit was all about the greedy rich accruing more wealth at the expense of everyone else. Look how so called patriots shorted the Pound during the Brexit vote. It never was about sovereignty and it never was to benefit the ordinary people of this country. And to Brexiteers, no I won’t get over it. You’ve made all of us ordinary people worse off and harmed our future opportunities.

Or perhaps you are being punished for daring to defy the EU? Polls found that the main reasons people voted Leave were "the principle that decisions about the UK should be taken in the UK", and that leaving "offered the best chance for the UK to regain control over immigration and its own borders. According to Google at least either way, the little guy always gets squished.

It was a complete fantasy that was sold by the Brexiteers, where more or less all the advantages of being in the EU were going to be kept, but all the claimed disadvantages would just go away. That is also known as having he cake and eating it, which doesn't work, as the UK has now found out the hard way. I would say that the EU has shown enourmous patience with the different governments of the UK since the referendum. It has no interest in "punishing" the UK for it's own sake, but if the UK wants to be outside the EU, it's outside the EU.
@thesmallerhalf196821 сағат бұрын
One of the key lies of Brexiteers was one of omission. They deliberately ignored the fact that the UK was actively involved in designing and implementing many of the EU policies. They pushed the idea that the EU was some autonomous bureaucracy over which the UK had no influence. That was the big lie.

So, good luck getting anything delivered here, especially to our left coast. These rules have been introduced to protect the EU businesses from the cheap sellers from China, making sure that they have to operate with the same accountability. If we had been still a part of the EU this would be protecting the UK small businesses like HubNut's merch store but thanks to us leaving we are now treated as a 3rd Country so the rules are designed to make it harder for us to trade with them. Note it's not aimed at us, it's aimed at all countries outside of the EU Trading Bloc. So it's a direct result of the Leave vote. We have gone from being one of the countries that helped set the rules and shaped them for our best interest to not having a say at all but thanks to geography and the fact that the EU is our closest trading partner we now have to abide by rules we have no say over if we want to trade with them. All the talk of 'Taking Back Control' has in fact achieved the complete opposite and it's the smaller businesses and people that are being hit hardest. Big companies are suffering too but their scale meant they can at least cope. The only positive out of all of this (and I'm really clutching at straws for this) is that all of my Leave voting friends and a acquaintances are now say 'This isn't what we voted for' or words to that effect, that's if they're saying anything at all. It's one giant mess and I don't see it getting better any time soon.
@jimbobjimbob827523 сағат бұрын
Apparently, there is a whole wide world outside of the EU with the UK primarily being a services based economy, geography has little to do with it.
@neildaniel823220 сағат бұрын
@@jimbobjimbob8275 It has everything to do with it. The further goods are shipped the more expensive and complicated it gets, even things like call centres and financial services become problematic due to time zone differences. As part of the EU we were a big player on the world stage, alone we are a tiny island in a very big pool. There's also the issue of diverging standards, just look into the disaster that was the UKCA 'safety' standard that we tried to use to replace the CE one. It gave us a massive competitive disadvantage as we were out of sync with everyone else meaning people didn't see the point of selling to us and our exports had to be recertified to CE levels anyway to be allowed to be sold. It's hurting business at every level for the UK.

I don’t love the EU, and if you feel the same, the best way to annoy the EU would have been for Britain to stay in the EU! Why? Because the UK had a privileged position that really annoyed many in the EU, we had a veto voting power, kept our own currency, no Euro, and were not part of Schengen. In the end, Brexit wasn’t about Europe it was the outpouring of dissatisfaction with Westminster that politicians cynically deflected, in the short term at least, onto the EU.

Nothing wrong with BREXIT, it's the FACT that the EU is SPITEFULLY penalizing the UK for leaving the unelected "elite" club where one of the benefits is free Viagra for the elite. (says a lot about them.) The FACT is the the Remainer politicians (MOST) deliberately scuppered any deal, three years of messing about to stop any deal and then COVID. If the politicians had honoured the wish of the majority and negotiated robustly and with sincerity, we would have got a better deal. The crap deal is to annoy everyone so at a later date they'll return (most can't see they're being USED again to implement the elite's wishes.) The benefits would of certainly come had not the remainers signed up to keep most of the EU rules! But don't worry Ian, this gov is going to do its best to get us in through the back door and then all your postal worries will be over! All's well in the world.

At least some of the confusion seems to be that is being left to sellers and marketplaces to sort out rather than manufacturers. I hope I haven't been wearing my Hello Happy t-shirt in an unsafe manner.
