I just wanted to finally comment on this video, I went and grabbed three Paint the Town Magenta Dianthus (you convinced me!) this last spring and I am going to grab a million more. I garden in Zone 5b, Colorado. While I missed the spring flush of bloom (I got them later in the season), these little guys doubled in size and never. Stopped. Blooming. Not once. All the way into November. They didn't care about our dry summer. They didn't care about our odd, very very dry autumn this year. It's the end of January and they are perfect little low patches of blue-green. I cannot wait for their spring flush. Thank you so much for making this video and convincing me to grab some. Outstanding plant!!! They're also visited by little butterflies and moths and smell fantastic. Deadheading them has actually become one of my favorite things to do in the garden. Thank you thank you thank you!

I have pig squeak in my garden for over 30 years now, Love it. I have shared it with friends and family over the years. I now have 3 pots full again. I got this plant from my grandmother before she pasted. She was always sharing her plants with others. So that is why I share her love with others as she did.

I love that you got the plant from your grandmother, Charlotte! ❤️ My grandmother had a lovely cottage garden, and I thought it was so magical as a child. I wish I could chat about gardening with her now as an adult, but my mother assures me that my grandmother is looking down from heaven and enjoying our gardens. 😊 Do you have any secrets for dividing them successfully over the years? (I imagine you do!)

Storm Cloud has quickly become one of my favorites! Glad you're enjoying it too Carolyn! I recently saw along the highway a business on a hill, and the entire hill was blooming with Amsonia -- not sure if it was the Storm Cloud variety, but it was stunning! 💙

I have always had a deer problem (WV Zone 6b), but only recently discovered rabbits in my yard as well. We are "wild and wonderful" so no surprise I've seen skunks, possum, and groundhogs too along with a zillion birds and just about as many squirrels. I'm so tired of spending money and time only to watch all my efforts be destroyed. I'm compiling a list of deer AND rabbit resistant plants. I am now considering what needs to be deleted from my garden and replaced with better options. In the mean time, some garden cloches are on order. LOL! Thank you for these recommendations! Perfect timing and very helpful!

I abandoned all hope of hosta many years ago and replaced with Brunner Jack of Diamonds. For some reason all my plants kept getting horrible black spots all over them. They looked terrible. Abandoned those as well, but maybe should try again in a different location.
@GardenSanity8 ай бұрын
Hi Kristy -- yes, there's nothing like the double whammy of deer AND rabbits. 🤬 My parents have always had deer but now are getting more rabbits too, so I understand what you're dealing with. Garden cloches do help, so I'm glad you're getting some. It is frustrating, but once you find a plant the critters won't eat -- buy more of them! 🤞
@GardenSanity8 ай бұрын
Hmmmm.... perhaps a different spot would work for Brunnera. (And yes, Hosta are basically Deer Candy!) If you were getting black spots on the Brunnera, you can spray them with Neem Oil and see if that helps.

Wow, it's crazy how much effort must have gone into making this video! Thanks a lot for your efforts and presenting so beautifully! I am in the Pacific Northwest zone 8b. I love my Sea Holly and Astilbe. Both these blooms seem to last for a very long time and look good through the winters with their dried flower stalks. Sea holly is evergreen in my zone.
@GardenSanity8 ай бұрын
Thank you for your feedback! 😊 Yes, it is a lot of effort and I do everything myself, so each video takes a bit of time. However, I love helping fellow gardeners and sharing my love of gardening! 😀 I’m envious of your Astilbe: mine used to bloom for not even 2 weeks, and the dried stalks were crumbling by the Fall season. I always wanted the long bloom time plus Winter interest with them. (I replaced them a few years ago with Hellebores.) I finally planted my first Sea Holly last year, and am looking forward to watching it mature over time! I thought it didn’t survive, but actually found it “live” in a previous video! 🤣

Your videos are always so informative!! Love the pictures throughout each season. I have Georgia Peach Pie Dianthus that I planted 2 Falls ago. I got exactly ONE bloom last year, as the rabbits kept chewing them down 😂. This year I was smart and put up a makeshift fence around them. They are absolutely covered in blooms!! I expect them to open up in the next week or so. Cannot wait! I too planted Jack of Diamonds last year and enjoyed my first Spring with them this year. I actually only planted them for the leaves, but was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed their beautiful Spring color. Thank you for another great video!
@GardenSanity8 ай бұрын
Thank you so much Allison! ❤️ Those darn rabbits - but I'm so glad you outsmarted them and will enjoy the Peach Pie flowers this year! Prior to planting Jack of Diamonds, I had always thought of Brunnera as more of a nice green plant for the garden like you! So I also have really enjoyed the blue flowers. When the flowers first began, very tiny and low to the ground - my tall husband wasn't impressed. I had to show him what they looked like much taller and fuller a few weeks later! 🤣

Thank you so much Nancy! 😊 Deer can be so destructive. While no plant is deer-proof, at least some are deer-resistant which is better than nothing. I struggle with rabbits, and get concerned whenever I don’t see them. They’re hiding and plotting what to eat next. 🤣

Hi Candace, I believe Hamilton, Ontario is in Hardiness Zone 6b according to Google. So if you know your hardiness zone, then you can look at the information I provided in the video on the hardiness zones for each plant to see if it will grow well for you. I hope this helps and that you can enjoy some of these perennials! 💖
