Your video is great and this is in NO WAY an insult aimed at you, but WTF is Harley doing? That entire assembly is the UGLIEST thing I've ever seen on any brand motorcycle, and I've been wrenching on them for over 40 years. Even the "junk" AMF years of the FL line had sleek sexy fender struts that stayed horizontal and flowed to the back of the fender. The fact that the exhaust (a NECESSITY) is held up by the bag guard (an ACCESSORY) is ridiculous when there will be a number of owners going "naked" with customized bikes. Hanging major components from a bag mount DESPITE having that crazy girder of a strut assembly? Also, why is the exhaust mount flared UP (along with the rubber block) to retain water around a standard bolt head, rather than the SAME part just factory installed with the turned edges facing DOWN over the pipe bracket? It's becoming obvious that the company just doesn't care about detail any more. If I had seen your video before buying one, myself... Well, there would have been some decisions to make. :))

@TheRoadGlideRider9 ай бұрын
It’s never a stupid question to seek information. If you’re not going to install the complete accessory switch, but just want to have access for your heated grips (or other things), you need the Electrical Connection Update Kit (69201599A) from Harley-Davidson. The Heated Grip kit says it’s required to connect them to the Harley-Davidson Wiring Harness. It will enable you to connect but not have any way to turn on/off other than the Grip itself. Be sure to follow the wiring instructions to insure correct connections. I hope this helps. And thanks for watching my video. Ride Safe. 🏍💨🏍💨

Not modifying the harness with the supplied ground wire was not a good idea. The wire you pull out is a special dedicated negative side of the Control Area Network (CAN). It is not a true chassis ground. The ECM uses the CAN to send/receive signals to other devices on the bike. It might work fine for now but it can cause trouble later. If it puts noise on that special ground plane, It could mess up things in so many ways; leaving you to wonder WTH went wrong with the bike. On that note, I don’t understand why Harley felt the need to get the plugs involved (other than make it easy to remove and change the headset harness). If you cut the wire off the plug on the new headset harness and splice the ground wire in there, you get the same intended results.
@TheRoadGlideRider11 ай бұрын
I’ve not had any problems. But I’m going to take the Headset Harness out and install the WHIM. If I don’t like the WHIM, I’ll go back to this Headset Harness. And I refuse to cut any part of the Factory Wiring Harness. Thanks for watching. 🏍💨🏍💨
@matthewpedersen935111 ай бұрын
Thank you for posting it. We have the same mindset about tampering with the main harness. That's why I cut it on the headset side. I know what I'm doing and I 'still' couldn't get the plug apart without risking the chance of ruining it. I can't believe Harley expects anyone (even their own techs) to do it according to instructions. That ground wire should just be a pigtail on the headset harness to begin with. Good luck with the WHIM. I've heard nothing good about it.

Accessory 2 wire, Light Blue/Yellow wire is limited to 2A. Any accessory connected to it is limited to no no more than 2A. If you want to use more, add a relay. The best way to be sure is using your volt meter, test it for voltage. This way you will know the switch and wiring. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for watching. Harley-Davidson had an Accessory Switch stock on my 2009 Road Glide to switch my LED Accent Lights. But not on my 2021. So, I first installed installed the switch kit to operate my LED Accent lights using Accessory Switch 2. They use less than 2 amps. But now I’m going to use the Accessory Switch 1 to operate my Heated Grips. The grips require you to use the setting switch on the end to turn on/off. This means the heat setting is changed every time. I’m going to use the Accessory Switch 1 to switch them on/off. This way when I find the perfect heat setting, I won’t need to change it. I’ll have a video on the installation of the grips. So subscribe to get notifications of new videos.

In the instructions, says the Light Blue/Yellow wire is limited to 2A. If any light exceeds 2A, you must use a relay. If the lights (LED lights usually don’t exceed 2A) used are under this, you should be OK. Accessory 2 switch is the one to the outside. Do any of the two ACC switches work if you only use the plug and not connect that single wire to the battery?
@TheRoadGlideRider Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching my video. From what I understand, you can’t get voltage without the harness. The wiring needs the power from the battery to provide voltage for the ACC2. It uses the relay to provide voltage through the harness. Power for the plug (ACC1) comes through the ECM. That is why it’s limited to less than 2amps. I wouldn’t advise wiring different than the instructions. You might damage the ECM. And those have a high cost to replace.

I installed these about 10 months, and 15,000 miles ago. I’ve rode from Virginia to Las Vegas. In rain, cold and Desert Heat. My lights never “Fogged Up” or failed to light the way. I’ve found those that had problems didn’t mount them with the drain hole on the bottom, causing water to form in the light. It’s important to follow directions when mounting. Now don’t expect these lights to reach down the road. They give great light on the side of the road and form a “Pool of Light” in front. And give on coming traffic a point to be recognized.
