Ex father in law had one, it almost ruined him until he eventually sold it. Everytime he went near it a pipe burst or a bit of trim fell off (it wasnt a banger, he paid top dollar for a good one) The specialist he used in Edinburgh often served him up bills in the thousands lol. I drove it once, i didnt like it, windscreen was to narrow for my tastes, kinda felt awkward to drive.

Lovely car, a very early 760 Turbo is my absolute dream car. Stately but fantastic styling, hallmark Volvo design that aged very very well. Seems though that this early fuel injection system on the B23ET can cause issues.

I’ve owned two, an 86 Spirit for three years and for the last eight years a 1990 Spur 2. It is possible to run a Rolls-Royce on a budget. Some guys buy season tickets to football teams. I drive my Royce.

This is a car that still rocks today. Class never goes out of fashion. When you bought one of these you'd never need another car. If I owned one of these I'd invite visitors to the car instead of my home.

Cigarette lighter? No no no, young man. A Rolls has a cigar lighter. Lovely car but I've always hated the digital clock. Tacky. I want a real clock. Also, take care of that grille. Looks like someone polished it with a knife and fork.

The car named after what it was lacking😂. I wrote my first master thesis at the company that developed this and the S/V40. I never liked the Carisma, very easy but totally unengaging drive. On the GDI the idle goes down to 450rpm after 10 seconds or so when warm. Therefore it needs a blip of the throttle before you drive off to prevent it bogging down. Little known maybe is that the S/V40 was also available with this engine, which was badged as the "1.8i" (opposed to the Volvo 1.8 which was badged as "1.8"), with exactly the same GDI logo on the engine cover. It didn't idle so low and I found it better to drive, in the Volvo this engine was very quiet.

I'd love to own one of these, I guess for nostalgic reasons. I would never consider the 1.7 for that reason. My parents owned a late 1981 343 DLS with the B19A engine. Same front as the 360 but still the old interior. It was the car my parents kept for the longest of all cars they ever owned. On hockey matches the parents took turns driving us early teenagers to the Sunday match in a neighbouring village or city, and I remember vividly my dad outpulling some of the other parents, in their sometimes a lot newer cars. You can say the car made my dad popular amongst my teammates. Oh the memories🙂

Hooper & Co Coachbuilder took a 1989 Silver Spur and spent 2 years transforming it to the sold 40 inch longer 4 inch higher Hopper Rolls-Royce Emperor State Landaulette - limousine / convertible. I was the chauffeur of a year in Australia in 1993 when it did a tour of the Motor Shows and charity events. Total of 5,380 road mile plus shipment by container to Brisbane, Melbourne & Perth motor shows... awesome machine.

I’m 23 and have owned my 1981 Spirit for over a year now - cost me about £800 ex fuel etc for the year - some of which deferred maintenance from the previous owner. To me if you have a car like this, you enjoy putting fuel in it! Smiles per miles, if you are bothered by the fuel gauge not the car for you…

Nice one Chris 👍 Most of us have wondered about a car like this. Should I buy it? 😅 No! The attention to detail is astounding which is expected of this car at the time of its launch. One of my questions is, ‘Who actually owned these magnificent machines? ‘ Imagine the elites that are looking for their car that they bought when they were young’ 👍

You get used to a heavy clutch. I used to own a Bolwell mk7, which was an Aussie kit car. It had an incredible heavy clutch. After a couple of weeks I didn't even notice it. Until I drove a mates 2 litre Escort, and nearly stomped his clutch pedal through the floor...

That's a thumbs up from me. Brings back memories. My first car was a 142 1972 model. (Best year for these cars imho.) It went through the treatment that a lot of young guys' cars did back in the 1980s. Removed bumpers, shaved of side trim with all the mounting holes welded up, 13 inch leather steering wheel, freestanding rev counter on top of the dash, extra gauges in the center console, lowered by cutting of a round of the stock coil springs etc. And fantastic heaters in these cars. Perfect for Norwegian winters. Good times.

Very good looking car. And the dashboard and controls are impressively clean in design. Peugeot had the luxury of being a little late to the party with the 205, so benefit being able to see what their rivals did first.

My friend did a full nut and bolt restoration on a 1.9. It was truly stunning condition selling for £22,000. It drove amazingly well but the years have moved on and the performance was slightly lacking when you have turbocharged non hot cooking hatchbacks with 200bhp now but for a nostalgia buzz it was unparalleled and took me back to the early 90s when I had one. I’m looking forwards to your 309 review as I had one of those too.
