Saludos.

The Trim motor runs so other than being rusty why are you changing it? Did you check amps and it was drawing too much? My relay has gone out and I'm changing it but thinking maybe I might do the motor at the same time. Mine is not rusty but 20 plus years old. thanks

When i fill up my boat at the gas station, it only lets me put in a little bit until gas is already reaching the top, could this be part of the reason ?

Thank you so much for putting my mind at ease. I have used the hose adapter to flush and did run my motor for a couple of minutes during that time and then I found out I shouldn't do that and was worried I could have caused premature damage to my impeller. Glad to know I probably didn't.

Can you provide a part number for the replacement bolt and the large washers that go on each end of the lower sleeve that holds the trim unit in? I have lost one of my bolts and the large washer.

Wow, I never knew that! Big improvement in speed and RPM, It seems the engine works more efficiently with correct trim.

Thanks for explaining this troubleshooting. Very useful for this hidden problems that are not easy to find. Last summer I was crazy to find this. I hope this helps people like me to find their motor issues. Please keep doing videos like this. Greetings from Spain.

Great video! I did this today (before watching this video) and had to use a 1/4" universal joint socket with extension and it was a pain in the butt! Would have been much easier removing the trim piston!

My question is... In all those 40 years, you never thought about investing in a professional test tank?? My local guy only been in business for 5-6 years and he has a see through perspex test tank that cycles water through the tank so you can perform the engine in different rev rangers without overheating the motor or stressing the drive shaft How do you test engines at different rpms? Just curious

I repowered merc 115 with tohatsu 115, ordered original 15p prop like it was black max on merc. Factory recommendation for tohatsu is 5150-5850 on WOT. I couldnt reach more than 5050RPM o WOT so I ordered original 13P prop. Result was alarm on over rewing at 3/4. At the end I ordered 14P Solas prop an I reached 5500 at WOT. Strange..

Does it have to stay pointing up to keep a continuous flow while you are running your outboard? I am having problems with it continuously getting fuel.
@us4marineАй бұрын
Hi Ross, no the upward position is only to prime the fuel system, reason why it’s called priming bulb. Once your system is full and the bulb feels full with gas it doesn’t matter how it’s position is it will continuously let fuel pass through. Thank you for watching.

Great clear video about pitch. Maybe also mention one has to have a clean bottom during testing as it influences the results. Personally I went through exactly what you explained on my yamaha F100lb on a 5.3m planning hull. Came from factory with a 17 pitch, wouldn't go past 5200. Moved to a 15 pitch which gave clear 5500. Further down the line reduced pitch to 14 which gave me 5750-5800 Not going to touch the pitch again until I clean the bottom and apply some silicon bottom paint which should help to get it into the 5900-6000 range.

super video !!!!!!I have key west 2300 with Yamaha 250 2005 with the 19 propell my rpm go 5200 max full trimed what I should do to get better performance?
@jb243wpАй бұрын
Needs swapping out to a 17" pitch to start with, in the same diameter
@us4marineАй бұрын
2 inches less pitch will only bring you up 200/250 rpm, try and see if you can probably bring the engine up one hole on the engine bracket mounting holes. Thank you so much for watching
@wol9ver6ineАй бұрын
Further to that, BEFORE you remove the drain plug tilt the engine up, then remove the plug, then put a container around the rubber boot where the drain is, tilt engine down to let the oil drain out. Absolutely no mess...

Thank you very much for such a good video with all that information I have to look at my propeller to see what size it is since I recently installed a Yamaha 150 vmax to my 19-foot center console and its rpm at full speed with trim up is only up to 5200

I have a grady white gulfstream 232. I just put a yahama f300 with a grady bracket. What prop size do you recommend?
@us4marineАй бұрын
Hi Ben, Gradys are known to be great boats and one of the reasons is because they’re heavy, however a F-300 is a lot of power for a 23 even being a Grady, I’d start with 15 1/4 X 19” stainless 3 bladed and see where that take your RPM’s. That will give you a good idea , but there’s a big possibility you might end up with a 21”. Now you must take into account how high your motor is installed on the bracket, depending how far the motor is from the boat, you have to raise your cavitation plate about 2” for every foot of bracket. Thank you for watching. Take care

On a Yamaha 300 trim tabs, the larger cylinder attached to engine is leaking at the seals. Can you just replace the seals and not the whole sub assembly to repair this? Thanks and love the channel.
@us4marineАй бұрын
Hi Brian, yes you can replace the seals only, however I’d advise to also replace the cap if you see it has some corrosion on it, it really helps the seating of the seals and ends up being a better job. Send me the serial # if you need help in getting the part numbers. Take care and thank you for watching.
@Coltgov191145Ай бұрын
Those are trim tabs not coolant channels... they usually have a fin on them, that particular motor does not but the water is sucked in through the intake in front of the prop where the impeller is, then its pumped through the motor to cool it and then dumped into the leg to cool the exhaust gases then out the prop....
@us4marineАй бұрын
Thank you for watching.
@S2KCYAАй бұрын
I dont think the exhaust exits thru the center of the prop...
@us4marineАй бұрын
Yes it does, thank you for watching.
@TheCat3021Ай бұрын
Not all props have a rubber hub inside of them and those vents on the side suck water up into the motor to cool it I think that’s a Yamaha lower unit based on color
