if you change the curb idle screw (raising or lower idle), When I reattach the throttle cable, will I then need to slightly adjust the cable end to match the new position of throttle butterfly?

Your videos regarding OMC sterndrives have been really helpful to me. Thank you for taking the time to post them. BTW you make it look so much easier than it is! The filth that came out of my mouth whilst wrenching on my Cobra was incredible. You are either a saint or an amazing editor.

So I recently bought a project boat and the the guy I bought it from redid the floor but I don’t think it was done correctly. The ski locker just hold water and it floods. Is there supposed to be something that drains the water, like a bilge pump or a pvc pipe which drains the water out to the boat drain plug?
@michaelromer2016Ай бұрын
The guy made no drain that enters into the engine bilge.
@PanopticWorldWideАй бұрын
That thing wasnt present on the 82.. Definitely not OE
@PanopticWorldWideАй бұрын
They didnt drill holes in those notches because they're intended to allow water drain to the rear of the boat, through the transom and not directly into the bilge... most useful when stopping quickly, where water could rush over the transom. In an earlier video you talked about replacing the plastic bungs with brass. That whole area above the bilge is basically a splash guard so water entering from the back of the boat doesnt flow directly into the bilge.. You should plug the holes you drilled and install the thru-transom brass instead.

That plate you removed was not stock.. Assuming it was reinforcement for the central leg of ski tow bar

I doubt gasoline varnish did that to the tank.. the acid you used is the likely culprit, along with prolonged exposure to what was probably salt water trapped under the tank.. Also if you run ethanol-free / non-oxygenated gas, varnish wont ever be an issue.
@michaelromer2016Ай бұрын
I hate ethanol fuel. Wait until you get more into the videos.
@PanopticWorldWideАй бұрын
that ignition switch was not factory original.. the old horn switch is original and its obvious they added the other switches above that as well as that key. Also that prop is definitely not OE.

I think its probably an 83-85. I have a nearly mint 82 ssv167 that doesnt have the bow cup holders and has rear jump seats & a smaller bilge opening instaed of the full width open area bilge on yours. Just starting to watch this playlist now.. excited to see everything you've done!

To adhere your new transom board to your boat, you put peanut butter resin on the boat shell then put your transom board in and lock it down, right? I'm at this point now. Thank you.

Mines not bent, but it has a tiny bit of play. What's wrong? The bearings is not tighting enough against the outershaft? My seal was pressured tested, but after picking up the drive by the shaft, a little mistake, I got a little gear oil seepage. Also if I pull the shaft It comes forward like 1/8th inch. Is this normal?

I have a question. I have a 7.4 Daddy king cobra, I put new seals in the lower outdrive, I pressure tested it off the boat, and seems good. Now after I installed, I moved the prop shaft and a bitt of gear oil leaked. It has tiny bit of play left and right. As well as will pull forward slightly. Is mine installed wrong? Maybe bearings need to to be shimmed?

Just going through this on a four Winns with an omc cobra drive. out of interest we’re you running this with the conventional points/ contact distributor. Trying to go through the boat and get a reliable system as when we took the boat for its first outing the esa wasn’t connected and then spent the week using the assortment of spares before admitting defeat when the starter failed.

You're calling the interrupt switch the overstroke switch, and vice versa. The interrupt switch is activated by the "w" load lever. Refer to OMC documentation.

Michael, since doing your video, what would you now reccommend lining a ski locker with? Mine previously had black carpet which seems like a good idea to dampen noises from skis banging around etc, but not a good idea as it would trap water / moisture.
@michaelromer2016Ай бұрын
Does your ski locker drain normally pretty well? Here’s the deal with that, some people just raise their trailer up high enough to get it off truck and if it’s not raised all the way up, the ski locker holds water. I recommend putting in just enough carpet where it is reachable by hand-meaning it can be removed easily if needed. After using the boat, leave the ski locker door open for a day or two to dry out area; if you use a boat cover.

@JohnB.Robinson2 ай бұрын
If @neverenough is so knowledgeable why he put some videos on the internet. I found yours on rebuilding a holley marine carburetor more informative n illustrated than any on the internet. If the average person had to go to a boat shop for every little thing (as expensive as they are) they couldn't own a boat. I had to take my boat to a marine shop not long ago n the owner asked me who'd been working on the boat. When i said me he said wow u do a better job than most boat repair shops.

@michaelromer2016 thanks so much for that. I did t even consider that. I checked out your alignment video. Blessings to you for such a great video. And I love that you had your helper 12 year old. I learned so much from my dad growing up, just holding the flashlight for him. Because of that, I have no fear in rebuilding my engines. Boats are a different story. My dad's my hero, and you will be to your daughter. God bless you, child.
