The best part of Lament that no one talks about is how dark, lonely, and atmospheric it is. It’s supposed to be the genesis of Castlevania… it feels old, ancient, otherworldly. Like connected to an ancient time before Dracula. Also, the soundtrack is some of Yamane’s best work ever, also the dvd format (another first for Castlevania) was amazing for the audio and score. Not unlike the audio jump from Super Castlevania (snes/cartridge)to Symphony(CD/playstation). Curse (the follow up) is the better game overall. But there’s something about Lament.

♥️ So good, still looks beautiful today, I always thought that Master System was better than Genesis, had much more Heart .. my 2nd fave console after SNES of that era, so many good times with Master System at family gatherings at grandads pad ♥️🎮🕹

06:14 seriously? Sotn's bosses were way too easy (with a couple of exceptions), you could easily break many of the fights to the point it wasn't even a challenge. Sotn could easily be broken after the first hour, whereas aos has a better balanced difficulty, at least as far as I got so far (I should have reached the second third of the game)

Everything about him screams western, I wish they would've gone with that instead of ninja. It's so sad that a lot of places inaccessible to him sell stuff only he can use, it makes me wonder if there was more in store for him but it needed to be scrapped. The game never lets him really connect with us or the Returners. He had so much potential. It's so sad that he even told Kefka that he was fighting for friends and family implying he found new purpose on companionship only for him to throw (no pun intended) all this progress away by offing himself IN A GAME ABOUT HOPE AND MOVING ON

PS2 was hard and had a lot of grind, but had the 2nd best story of the games. PSIII (IMO) is the worst of the series as it doesn't have the PS feel. It's not a bad game, it's just not a good Phantasy Star game.

For the wind/soul thing, I know why! It's a mythology thing: meet the shōrōkaze... Which is a ghost/spirit that rides on the wind (and can carry objects and even people away).

This game is now available via Nintendo Switch Online, which is where I ran into it, and got reminded of playing this as a kid. Finishing the first level reminded me of how hard it was, and let me to looking up videos like yours.

Which one of these three would you start with and why: Castlevania: Circle of the Moon Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance. I can't decide which one of these i should start playing. I have only played Circle of the Moon before but that was nearly twenty years ago so i don't remember much of the game.

I really do enjoy this game but I have to admit it does suffer from some very glaring issues. Probably the most obvious is the very similar backgrounds and level layouts. I'm also not a fan of the fact let this game has no pits. I'm not saying that the pits should lead to instant death but there's a way you can do platforming where you can suffer fall damage while also hindering the player's progress while not killing them off with a one shot hit. I know there's a lot of people that don't like that type of gaming. Put in the case of this series I think it adds a bit of extra tension. After all the castle is a creature of chaos and it's supposed to be daunting and dangerous. After all this simile sentient and living force is trying to ward off Invaders to protect its master. Tension equals drama. A couple of the other things I don't care about is the double jump which should have been a wall jump as well as the whip grapple mechanic which looks very jank. Is Leon had a proper rope swing with that mechanic it would have looked so much better. Development time and budget what can you do. But with that said I enjoyed the combo system with the orbs and it never ceases to amaze me the ability of musicians to perfectly seamlessly match the music with the visuals. I don't know if Mitchiru yamane has ever scored films but if she has you would be interesting to see how she matches her music with those visuals. Shemales that just like any other great music composer and that stuff never ceases to blow my mind.

The rabbit hole of "Baram is Kefka" is deep and adds an immense degree of gravitas to Shadow's otherwise almost too far removed and ambiguous background. "Think what they'll do to me if I get caught." Baram says, quite possibly referring to the barbaric experiments that were likely suspected of being carried out on human test subjects in Vector in the pursuit of human-magic synthesis (or what would later be more officially referred to as Project Magitek). This early medical barbarism is actually alluded to in-game, as multiple characters during a playthrough will suggest that Kefka is "the way that he is" precisely because he was the first test subject to have survived a magic transfusion, and while it indeed grant him te ability to wield powerful magics, the process itself - being completely unrefined at that early stage of development - was actually what had rendered him insane. Could it be that it also rendered him amnesiac, like Terra at the start of the game, thus making him forget who was in those years when he robbed trains with his friend Clyde? Maybe the imprisoned Baram was, himself, also like Terra, subjected to wearing tge Slave Crown. Although this theory has never been confirmed by the devs and it's quite possible that the perceived connection between Baram and Kefka is just that, imagine for a moment that it is real, and how genuinely f--ked up it would be to be Shadow and to suddenly realize (probably mid-game) that Kefka could, in fact, that old friend of yours - the one who had begged you to end his life - and then having to be heavily burdened with the knowledge that if only you'd done as he asked, the world might never have been out on the path towards total destruction and ruination, and that tens of thousands will have died because of that one mistake. And even if Shadow never reveals any such suspicions, in or outside of the game, that doesn't mean the thought had not ever crossed his mind in the form of internal dialogue and constant nigntmares. In any case, I think, if nothing else, even just by entertaining the mere possibility that Baram is Kefka can, in and of itself, serve as a valuable thought experiment, as - if true - it would add lots of new depth to both Kefka and Shadow's backstories, and it would go a long to more fully explain and contextual both Shadow and Clyde's (otherwise highly opaque and largely unexplained) backstories. It would also potentially create several new wrinkles in Shadow's also largely unexplained motives for staying loyal to party (aside from Relm, of course). Perhaps he ultimately decides to throw in his lot with the Returners because he's driven to, once and for all, finish that which Baram had asked him to do all of those years prior. Do you yave any thoughts regarding this possibility, or on the ramifications of it on the entire narrative game if it's true? In any case, I love your videos quite a bit and it's honestly a crime that you don't get at least 20x the views. Despite this, I hope you keep diving into the lore of this and other classic RPGs. Also, sorry for the long comment 😅

You missed another thing you could buy for it. They had a joystick you could buy that had the 2 buttons on the left versus the gamepad having them on the right. The top of the joystick was pretty big making it easy to wrap your fingers around. It's what I mostly used when I played back then. I got the system my sophomore year in high school. All my friends had Nintendo. I played the demo systems at Federrated and kept going back to the Master System over the Nintendo because the graphics just looked so much better more like what the real arcade games looked and played like. So I asked for that instead of the NES. Christmas or my birthday, I don't recall which, I got the SMS. I got Transbot, Afterburner and Zillion with it. Transbot was a hit with my sisters and my parents. I got a bunch more games as time went on. I got the F16 Fighting Falcon simulator game because I wanted to join the Air Force, but alas I was medically disqualified from serving in any of the armed forces from a childhood accident. I got a couple different RPG type games that I played a lot of. Zillion was one my friends came over to play along with Double Dragon because it was more like the arcade. I had Cyborg Hunter which was alright I guess. It was neat but also kinda weird. Zillion II was another I got but the game play was significantly different than the original Zillion game so I didn't play II and much as I played the original. As I got older I got a Genesis on my own and didn't play much of my SMS. I always wanted to get the game adapter but never did get it. So the SMS sat idle. My Mom asked if my Niece could have it to play and I told her and my Niece both that she could but when she didn't want to play it anymore I wanted it back. Well apparently nobody cared because years down the road when I asked about it, I was informed my Niece sold it because she needed money for rent... It still pisses me off to this day and I keep looking at them on eBay thinking about getting one. But then I see the adapters for the Genesis as well and think I may just get one of those and buy the games I like again. Now I see a Mega Drive cartridge in your video that has most of the games already on it and I'm about to try to find one of those because if I can get it and use it in my Genesis? HELL YEA!

nah fan, I fucking hate FF 13 and 13-2 is just miles better, at least is fun. One of the best FF games? i wouldn't go that far but rather replay this than 13 or lightning returns or 15 or that pile of shit that was 16. What about ff 1 2 and 3? I mean yeah, but not 4 5 or 6, despite their age 4 5 and 6 are still far better games than 13 trilogy, it helps that the stories are so easy to follow and understand unlike the cluster fuck of Nomura Kitase and Nojima shitty writing.

@thereturners7564
@thereturners7564 Ай бұрын
Not true. That Shadow was referred (in one segment of the game) as a female was entirely due to a translation and scripting error involving Relm, as - depending on whether Shadow is saved on the Floating Continent - the game will confuse the script intended for him as script that was intended for Relm . This takes literally 2 minutes to research and confirm, so why are you spouting lies? Furthermore, Shadow is described elsewhere in the game as a male. More importantly, the devs responsible for creating Shadow have always, themselves, only ever referred to Shadow as a male. And you know what? I'll take def take their word over yours 😉

Legends is maybe better than Adventure, but at least that game had a basic grasp of game design despite being glitchy and requiring way too much pixel precision. Legends is almost objectively nowhere close to as good as Belmont's Revenge. The Level design is thoughtless, the enemy placement / hazards barely build on each other, the sprites are plugged up with poor dark/light balance and actually look worse on actual hardware because of screen bleed, and the music is grainy. Everything about this game screams "we don't know how to make good use the limitations we we're presented with." Belmont's Revenge excelled at taking these things into account.

I wouldn't mind seeing them do a remake of this game, like with better graphics, better level layout, better music, better sound quality, better enemies, better items, like how they did a remake of Metroid 2, but for this game.

I cut my teeth on NES and Genesis, didn't even know master system existed until the mid 90s? I remember getting a random SMS cart from a tag sale or flea market or something, and I have a distinct memory of asking someone at FunCoLand what I needed to play it... looking back, they absolutely thought I meant Mega Drive because they said to just cut the tabs out of my genesis cartridge slot, and 12 year old me was confused because the board/pins were Clearly not the same as the genesis cartridge slot lol As a big Genesis and Saturn fan, the SMS and Dreamcast both disappoint me equally... the novelty is fun, and I guess I can appreciate the Sonic games because I'm a shameless fan, but I just didn't care about anything else in the library. None of it was as enticing as what I had already experienced on the Genesis and saturn by the time I could emulate the hardware, and later get physical devices and play roms. I wanna like it, but it just doesn't do much of anything for me.

Kind of a long story, but I bought this game used for my Genesis sometime in the mid 90's. I got the box and book, but when I plugged in the cart, the game would not fire up. Turns out, a previous owner (possibly frustrated by any of several aspects of this game lol) had mutilated the contacts with a fork or something. Not to be deterred, I cracked the cart open, and grabbed my soldering iron. Many tiny pieces of copper wire and carefully cut electrical tape 5-6 layers deep later, I managed to get the cart in a workable state. My persistence also went onto the game as I, over quite a long period of time, learned most of the game's secrets and mechanics, and finally beat it. Though I do now have the game from GOG along with all the others, I don't believe I would have the patience to run a a full playthrough nowadays. Great memories though.
