I've ridden +- 200km with my new chain. Is it still possible to use this chain for hot waxing or should I buy a brand-new one?
@cyclingunboxedКүн бұрын
Absolutely! You have basically just done the perfect length break in period for a chain. If you want the fastest chain possible, most time trialists will ride the chain for 1-200km to break it in a little. This gets its running at its fastest. The wax will now hold it at a 100-200km chain for a very long time so it should be very fast.

I found with twin skinned wheels the tpu tubes (ridenow) forced the rim tape through the spoke holes and failed. Tried new rim tape and they still failed. Back to butyl for me.

Because the washing machine spins drys most the water? Especially from a smooth surface. Hard to convey a damp interior on video. One thing I didn’t show to be fair, I packed the shoes in a wash bag with a towel protecting the carbon sole from hitting the walls to hard

It is. First time I put them in the wash. They stank pretty bad. I put them in a bag with a towel on the carbon so they didn’t hit the drum too much. I’m surprised how well this worked l. Smell gone, cleaned the front plate well, and the rest of the shoe feels fresh. It was a bit risky putting them in there but now no regrets

This is the specialized roubaix sl3 Which I do have a video on: Repainting and Reviving My Crashed Specialized Roubaix SL3 kzbin.info/www/bejne/emaYcqyCoZWFoJI The curved seat stay is just to accommodate one of their old technology for shock absorption which are the zerts. They are just like little rubber inserts. They have moved away from this now.

Did Cannondale change the paint color on the Deep Teal? The difference between the 'stock' photo in the thumbnail and on some sites is very different from the, much nicer IMO, color in the video. Perhaps it is just poor color management in the photo. Thanks

I do like the colour in person much more as well. As a nice depth to the colour. I think it’s just how they have edited the photo on the websites. I would say it does look more like the video rather than the photo.

Where I think synergetic’s benefits really shine is actually in the place where it’s probably used the least, vintage bikes. Due to the benefits of such a high quality lubricant making parts last longer, it really should be used where parts are scarcer. It’s worth it to totally strip old drivetrains of their old lube and use this stuff. I’ve done it in a couple of my old bikes and been really satisfied so far.

@cyclingunboxed9 күн бұрын
You have options though. You can drop wax over the top 3 times and then hot melt again. Or I run 3 chains so you can just swap out, re wax all the chains at once. They are both 3 week re wax options for you. And honestly, it doesn’t take much time. Just turn the pot on and throw your chain in. Walk away or clean your bike until it’s melted. Take it out and hang to cool Pop it back on. As a whole it’s about 2-3 mins of actual doing stuff. You can just do other bits in between

Yes! Still ride the bike and still loving it! Everything I said on this video still holds. Going to test out the sl8 next month hopefully so see if it feels any different or better. I don’t care too much if it’s 5s faster over whatever distance. I have also ridden the new trek madone, canyon ultimate and aeroad and the sl7 still has far better handing, far more comfort and more stable in side winds

Easiest way to test the watt difference of a change is to ride your tests holding a fixed speed instead of a fixed power and just read off the average power it took to hold that speed. It's also way easier to ride constant speed than constant power.
@cyclingunboxed11 күн бұрын
I can see your logic. It’s definitely the better way to find out the power difference between the two rather than calculating it. For me though I wanted to know the amount of time it would save me and I don’t have the mathematical ability to convert watts to time saved. I’m also not so sure that on the course I did, it would be very easy to finish at the exact minute and second each time whereas I did find it very easy with the power as I hit most of them at bang on 250 with only a 1 watt discrepancy. It was around a 4.5 min course

I'm surprised you somewhat think latex is less puncture resistant than the other options. My experience on large-ish all-road-sized tires (>=32mm) with corresponding pressure is that latex is more puncture resistant than TPU or butyl.
@cyclingunboxed11 күн бұрын
My personal view is that once something has gone through the tyre. It doesn’t matter the set up you are probably going to puncture. It’s just generally said that latex is less puncture resistant. From my experience it felt like I had more punctures back in the 23/25c days. I still prefer the tpu for myself for the weight and how many you can carry as spares. I haven’t used latex on a tyre that wide yet. All my bike I have a 28 which blows out to 30 on my wheels

Generally, yes because I will re wax the chain when I clean. You don’t have to though, just make sure you dry it after as the wax doesn’t protect from rust like a wet lubricant will.

@cyclingunboxed how long does a bag last? I do about 130 miles a week , no point saving money on chains and cassette if spending it on wax
@cyclingunboxed13 күн бұрын
You should get between 30- 40 waxes per bag. You can stretch it further if you give your chain a simple wipe down with a microfibre before you put it back in the pot. At your mileage it should be around 25-30 re waxes per year so about £40 a year for a bag a year

Sound promising. I'm a mountain biker, not a roadie. But wha ti heard here sounds promising. Apart from the chafing issue, why is that? Any ideas why? Extra grip holding on to yhe riding shorts? As a mountain biker I wear chamois boxer and baggy shorts. Have you tried this? How does it perform in subzero temps? Fabric Scoop shallow race gets super harsh in even - 1v an dof course gets worse in -10c. But is comfy as soon as it's indoors. And of course in the summer.
@cyclingunboxed15 күн бұрын
I have quite a narrow pelvis and this saddle is slightly wider than the one it’s based off. That’s why I think it chaffs me a little. I can’t say I have tried it in a MTB short unfortunately so I can’t judge there. For temp in the uk it rarely gets below 0C so I can’t say for -10. It does get harder as it gets colder but still hold up just fine up to 0. At -10 though I think you would be pushing the saddle quite hard.
@mtbboy199315 күн бұрын
@@cyclingunboxed That makes sense. Should've d tried the narrower version then. If it's fine at 0 it's likely fine at -1C, not massive difference in temp. So sounds promising. I've been been to their regular saddles do well in cold temps too. IF I don't feel like I'm sitting on just the rails I think I will be fine. As the design looks good.

I orderd Power Arc Pro Elaston and it is hardest ever I ever tried by far. Basically, after the first 1h or a ride becomes difficult to sit in continuation for more 1 min at the time. I did a professional bike fit with this saddle. The saddle is directly hitting sit-bones (which is good), and dont have any hotspots or rubbing, but just feels too hard. I am wondering if the 3d version would solve the hardness problem but it super expensive (no discount found anywhere Europe)

I’ve been using Ride Now tubes for a while now. The pressure loss is about the same as a butyl tube. I use them on gravel as well as road. Probably all TPU tubes are made in China. I get mine from Amazon. Delivery is very quick with Prime. As far as puncture resistance they probably take milliseconds longer to puncture but they do puncture. I have had no luck with the TPU patches. For speed and light weight they’re equal to tubeless without hassle. I can see them becoming a standard. If that happens prices will come down because of competition. There is a company out of Australia that’s selling TPU tubes with a large variety of sizes including BMX.

I just bought one of these today and I'm currently coping by watching glowing reviews lmao (good lawd, I could buy a used Trek Marlin for the cost of this thing!). Your review is the best one out there and makes me feel confident! I have only test ridden it a bit while I get my fit correct and I can already tell this thing is a game changer. I'm getting the Titanium version, mostly because there's a warning in the manual that says Specialized recommends replacing it every 3 years for S-Works (yikes!). I'm sure they are being extremely cautious and it will likely last many more years, but I figured I'd sacrifice the bit of weight for the peace of mind. Anyway, I have never had a saddle I've loved, only saddles I've tolerated, if this turns out to be as good as everyone is saying then it will be worth it for me! Dig the channel, new sub incoming!
@cyclingunboxed17 күн бұрын
I hope it works out for you in the long run! For me no saddle will ever be perfect but this one just works for the longest period of time on the saddle. It’s a marginally too wide for my pelvis at the back but it makes up for it by absorbing my lumps and numbs down there.

I find this a bit of a misleading video. The head set spacers for both bikes look totally identical even though I realize there may be small dimensional differences and they do insert the same way. The new frame is I believe only 30 grams lighter as advertised not 300g. I've seen the new S5 (2024) frame and fork actually weight and was surprised to see it totalled a few grams more than my 2019 S5 Disc frame and fork which I weight when I built it up in 2019. I too thought the 2024 was lighter as per advertising until then. I suspect there are always manufacturing variances frame to frame. So a bit of smoke and mirrors there. Still a fab bike, I would not trade mine for any other bike.

430 watts to hit vo2max? But only 51? The rest of the results look just as wonky as the vo2max one. Did you ever get a second opinion on the raw data?
@cyclingunboxed19 күн бұрын
I have thought about this and have a hypothesis. As I am predominantly fast twitch I may have hit my vo2 well before and that could have plateaued but because of the fibre type I could keep pushing and build high levels of lactate. So the power was high but the o2 consumption could have stayed the same. I did ask about the data and they adjusted it for me as they used the lactate hr data for my vo2 max. That’s all sorted now though. On the testing
@CenaSitnica19 күн бұрын
@cyclingunboxed Makes sense.. if you were predominantly slow twitch , 51 at 430 watts would put you at around 105 kg bw. Maybe I should get mine tested, 4-5 months of consistent training gets it to 71 if I were to believe garmin. Did you have any use of the data in your training after the test, or was it just for fun?
@cyclingunboxed19 күн бұрын
It did! Mainly LT1 and LT2. I found these good for my power zones, good for where to sit for endurance and when I was going into the red. It’s about £100 cheaper just to do the lactate testing.
