How was your experience with the bmpcc og? I’ve heard pros and cons about it. Pros being the amazing color and relatively cheap for a cinema camera. cons being the battery life and special memory cards.
@finnbenischek31708 күн бұрын
@@jbearproductions4067 I’ve really loved it so far. The battery life is not a big issue if you get a simple adapter to run it off of npf batteries. The SD card thing is a little annoying but the SD cards that are compatible with it are cheap and readily available so not too big of an issue. Overall great camera but I need more time with it to fully decide.

Lot's of positives to say about this, but I'll jump to the only negative - 1min in, the wide looking out the window. The bmpcc OG saying hello with the moire shimmer / aliasing on super fine detail (in this case the scratched graffiti in the window). It's the only thing giving it away, but super 16 would never see such detail.

If you have davinci resolve studio there are some effects that can get you all of the film "artifacts" such as grain, dirt, etc.
@@finnbenischek3170 how can you film yourself with manual focus ?

@@achimakassar before I go sit in the chair I focus on an object, such as the corner of the table, that will be close to where I am sitting. And/or I am outside and the depth of field is very big so I know I will fall within it if I am moving (the first shot)

well, one thing that i see a lot with film emulation is that the colours are too modern, perfect for a computer but really hard to do back in the day - and the details in the background often look a bit too digital. but i think the real reason this doesn't pop the way i assume it would is because of the lighting. you'll notice on the cafe shot when the light hits the table number i think that looks spot on for what you're trying to achieve. and the light coming through the window is fantastic. so aside from that small nitpick everything else is very good. the softness of the camera you see in the blackmagic og and the canon eos m are blessings in disguise. horrible if you want a sharp corporate image, great if you want a film look. so good stuff. but i hope that in the future, take advantage of the light a bit more, you'll notice this really makes things look like film in my experience.

what do you think about the lens? is it good for filmmaking? I'm considering buying one.
@finnbenischek3170Ай бұрын
@@nog1462 I think it is fun to play around with the switars, they have an interesting look. If you were going to pair it with a follow focus or work in a larger set scenario it would take ironing out some kinks for sure.
@nog1462Ай бұрын
@@finnbenischek3170 what were the biggesst difficulties? I like the vintage look and am searching for nice vintage lenses. I usually do talking head videos and landscapes.
@finnbenischek3170Ай бұрын
@@nog1462 for those uses it would be easier than doing some kind of handheld/shoulder rig sequence where you have to keep a subject in focus the whole time. The hardest part about the lens is focusing it because they are old and can have stiff focus rings. Not so stiff that you can’t turn it with your hand, but I’d imagine it may not work great with a follow focus. Secondly, what camera are you planning on using the lens with? It will have a pretty substantial vignette on any sensor larger than a super 16 size.

the thing that i always lose from these digital > film emulations is that the soft look with grain added on top never enhances the sharpeness, it just adds this weird texture on top. real film sharpens the image from the grain emulsion. idk how to get around that without doing the dune 2 process
@finnbenischek3170Ай бұрын
@@RemmyMusic1 I agree it never looks quite right. With this grade I tried applying the grain in the first node to try and bake it in a bit, but it still isn’t quite there is it.
