Is having high action really bad or wrong ? I put really high action And no string Radius it is just flat even And I like that a lot better.I don't get fret buzz at all when I down tune and it's a short scale bass

What tf does “open” even mean? They both sound like stingrays, as they should.

No funk, slap, or reggae for me. *Ahem* TOOL 🔧 Need a thicccq, punchy, and gritty sound. HH is the way to go.

Great bass ( not every bass should sound like a jazz bass )

Well, I ended up getting one. A Sterling Stingray Sub 5. And the playability was indeed stellar. The neck !!! So good that I spent another 450 bucks on upgrades. I added EMG electronics an Albridge and some other goodies. The big deal is a Pbass soapbar in front of the MM pickup. Killer sound, the blend is geat and I have a nice ramp. I have a bunch of hi end J basses which I love but this one beats them in many ways. I'm taking it to all on my gigs now.

Do you have any videos on how to best set up pick up height on a jazz bass?

I recently got a BC Rich Ironbird Bass 1800$ and I’m having this problem with the first 4 frets. They clearly don’t have good quality control or pay much attention to setting up their basses before shipping them.

I prefer old nickel round wounds on a Stingray. It helps tame the brightness of a Stingray. To me the best tone feature of a Stingray is the tight bass and the best way to get that is to roll off the bass a tad and roll off the treble a bit. That tight Stingray tone is unbeatable. And let’s face it the sound man is going to do his best to make it sound like a P anyway.

Getting your guitar player to roll his bass EQ setting down about three numbers. Will make it so the bass player in guitar player are not competing for the same low frequency. This is the biggest mistake I've seen almost every guitar player make on stage.

5 string has advantages, for sure. Yet Paul McCartney, Chris Squire, James Jamerson, John Deacon, Tony Levin, Geddy Lee, Marcus Miller, John Paul Jones, Flea, Entwistle, Pastorius, etc. - all 4 string players.

Advice, put stock pickup in parallel wiring. Clears mids and brings treble a bit.

Since the "New" StingRay Special doesn't have staggered polepieces to match the fretboard-radius anymors, the string to string volume seems to be a bit out of balance. The outer strings B+G are a bit louder than E, D and A. The A-string is the weakest. Thats what i found out as a long time SR5 player. Nontheless I like the new one because of the lower weight and the updated shapings.

Strange EQ you had for the Music Man. Mine sounds much more meaty than that - my switch is in parallel while my EQ is bass 100% with mid and treble both at 50%

I thought neck dive is tested sitting down and see how fast it drops to the neck
Obviously, my opinion is subject to my taster. Based on what I heard, the Fender won hands down. It retained the low-end pretty well, while the sting ray sounded pretty tinny. The pop was comparable on both basses. My money is on the Fender.
