Yeah I hear things like "odin 2 can play gran turismo at 7x" and I just go "why?" no need for it on small screens. 2-2.5x is all you need especially on a superior screen :)
@TheTechUpdate-ui1fh16 сағат бұрын
You raise a valid point, you are probably not going to notice the difference beyond 2-2.5x upscale on such a small screen. Whats interesting to me though from what i understand is that it does indicate that the processor can handle much more and that means that the unit is slightly more future proof. Feel free to correct me if im wrong here, just like the idea that it might be able to handle PS3 emulation if that ever makes it's way to android.Thanks for watching and for adding your thoughts

@@TheTechUpdate-ui1fh That is true. I tend to discount xbox, xbox 360, and ps3 emulation since they just aren't quite there yet. I also don't tend to worry as much about switch performance since I can just play those games on switch and hopefully soon I'll play those games on the switch 2. For me the performance, size and price combo all put the retroid 5 on top. If I want big chonky ergonomic emulation I have the steam deck for now. So many options, it's a good time to be alive if you're a retro gamer.

@@TheTechUpdate-ui1fh Like many of the retro handheld channels I really got in on it around the RG351P and been building my collection since. I have a huge pile of handhelds in cases behind me. Some even duplicates in different colorways. should giveaway or sell some lol. The one I don't have is the Odin 2 which is kind of crazy since it's king to many. Like I said I have a steam deck which is an amazing handheld but it's too big for anything more than couch gaming. So for me I was just about to get an Odin 2 Pro but then the RP5 showed up. It can do 90% of what the Odin can do but is more portable, has a better screen (one of the best) and is $150 cheaper. It was kind of a no brainer. So many mention PS2 and Gamecube performance on it but honestly it can do well with wii too. Wii U emulation on android is coming along nicely too. The Odin 2 can brute force performance so like you said is more future proof. I'm hopeful that we'll see lots of improvements just from the emulators themselves as they improve because I feel that is what is mostly holding us back right now. Sorry for the paragraph just retro gaming is a huge special interest for me. People really shouldn't get me started lol.

Maybe the biggest oversimplification ever. You forget the 120hz display on the x and the processor is not just slightly faster it’s a lot faster. It also runs a ton of games the steamdeck won’t/cant

You got a point there. went and looked at the benchmarks out there again and i probably understated how much more powerfull the CPU is. With the videos i make i can't include a definitve breakdown as i try to keep them short so that is why i did not mention the higher refesh rate screen, but ill keep that in mind. Part of the foucs point of the video was to discuss whether windows or Linux would be better on a handheld so that is another reson that is not included. There are 2 possible solutions. To update via wifi you will need a wifi dongle and a USB C to A adapter. You can checkout how to setup on Joey's Retro Handhelds. He has a good guide on how to do this at this link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fpKYdJKFbbxmsMk or you can follow the following guide at this link: github.com/Rolen47/ChangeTime to install a script that was designed for the RG351 that apparently works with making the time updateable (can't guarantee it will work but it is the only other option i could find), just a note you need to have protmaster installed for it to work and it only works with the mGBA core.

Why not compare it to the Miyoo Mini Plus? And the link you posted has the Brick at twice the price you mention
@TheTechUpdate-ui1fh13 күн бұрын
Hi There, I already compared it to a larger handheld called the Anbernic RG40XXv so in this comparison i wanted to compare it to something that was closer to it in physical size. I also think there are a few people who are not sure which one to go for when comparing these 2 and i wanted to shed some light on that question and help people decide. There are 2 links in the description one from LITNXT who are an American site. They are more expensive but they are closer to American customers and shipping and retruns are easier with them. The other link is for a Chinese site called Aliexpress. They are super cheap but sometimes (not always) they shi[p out of China so shipping and return can be more of a challenge. Here is the link for the Trimui brick at roughly $53 at the time of posting with shipping to the US included (this may change though so can't guarantee it will stay at that price forever): s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_omDSklV Thanks for watching.

@@TheTechUpdate-ui1fh the Mini Plus is actually a lot closer for a comparison to the Brick in terms of overall size, they are practically almost the same height and thickness, just the Brick has a 4:3 screen so that makes it not as wide as the Mini Plus. the OG Miyoo Mini is absolutely tiny in contrast to both of these, mostly because the Miyoo Mini has just absolutely ZERO excess plastic as leverage to hold it (around the control buttons and below them) also the Mini Plus unlike the OG Mini, actually has built in Wifi so you can use retro achievements and manage your storage via FTP without having to take the SD card out of it. price wise the Mini Plus is still actually just about more or less the same price as the OG Mini so 15-20$ less than the Brick. the only real issue with the Miyoo Mini and Mini Plus is that their PS1 3D game performance is kinda lackluster in many titles. Onion OS does help, but still Tekken 3 does not feel as fluid is it does when you play it on the Brick even though the Mini / Mini Plus technically also do run it at 100% speed. it makes me wonder if the Mini's display is 60Hz or if it is actually 30Hz or 50Hz because most games that you would think should run smoothly at 100% speed do feel a little bit choppy on the Miyoo Mini, less so on the Mini Plus i guess using that old Blackberry 2.8" display in the Mini does have its drawbacks?

The processor (if the runmours are true) has been used in some other handhelds so you should even be able to play some disc based games like PS1 and some PSP but the 16:9 format content will not be great on the type of screen this will have. You should also be able to play some Sega Dreamcast and Nintendo 64 games aswell. There is a whole world of these to suit almost every preference. The 4:3 aspect ration on the 40XXH is more convenient for that kind of content and it is smaller and more compact than the TSP so if those factors are imporotant to yuou it may be the better option, at the end of the day its up to you as you. Hope you ebnjoy it. Thanks for watching,

Grabbing a Retroid to be my throwback machine PS1 Era and before. And the next evolution of Odin w/ OLED will be what I get next, I just can't go back to not having a lesser screen after gaming on an OLED

Oled is awesome from what i have seen. Would love to have an Anbernic Rg556 with that Iled screen. Enjoy the RP5 and thanks for wathcing😁👍

Right there with you, my RG556 is everything PS1 and below, and my Odin 2 Pro is set up as a thoroughbred with 480 of my favorite PS2 games plus my GooglePlay games. I so wish I could justify getting the RP5 because it looks so good but I'm happy AF with what I have. I can't even begin on how much I love the Odin 2 Pro. The Rainbow variant looks so freaking minty fresh clean, and I upgraded the the thumb sticks to SlugWorks. I've never played a more perfect all around Android retro hand held. The quality of all the controls and their layout is flawless, the ergos are great, it's the perfect size, the sound is remarkable, the PS2 emulation is spectacular, a very powerful and capable chip set, great battery life, the thumb stick and side illumination looks incredible and it's so fun and enjoyable to play.

Odin is better due to the stronger processor. Thats all. Oled is fine but... more power more emulated games
@TheTechUpdate-ui1fhАй бұрын
If i could get the Odin at the same price i would totally agree with you. But the fact that the RP5 can do almost everything the Odin can at roughly $80 less has me looking toward it. I love the idea of the Odin 2 though, if i had the extra bucks i would definitely consider it. Bear in mind this is coming form a purely theoretical standpoint based on the research, so you may just have a point. Thanks for your feedback.

@@TheTechUpdate-ui1fh I think if the odin 2 had an oled screen it would be worth the current price for sure and would be an end game device.

Changing the distro (emuelec to arkos or other) wouldn't it work using a wifi dongle?

how about the functions for NDS?
@TheTechUpdate-ui1fhАй бұрын
Hi There, it is possible to play Nintendo Ds on the device but there is no touchscreen input as far as i am aware so that may make some games difficult to play. As far as perfromance go's check out this gameplay video by Retro Handheld Guides for an idea of what it would feel like: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kKjdZpalast9p6M. Hope that helps, thanks for watching.

Powkidy is a good budget handheld. Been in one for the last 2 years . I tend to loose stuff cus I'm often medicated so the day it happens it no big loss il just order another. This Christmas I'ma "upgrade" and get myself the R36S because I seen it supports more emulators. Happy gaming my friends
@TheTechUpdate-ui1fhАй бұрын
The R36S is a great option that will play up to PS1 well. The V90 is also definitely a good budget device if you dont want to be too worried about damaging or loosing your device. Thanks for wathcing

Okay, I have a surprise dilemma this black Friday. I was all set on the retroid Pocket 5 and that's what I wanted. I won a 100 dollar off coupon for Ayn for the Odin series in a drawing. I am now at a loss. Should I consider an Odin 2 or Odin mini over the RP5? I never looked into the Odin series due to price but now it is within reach. What does everyone think? I need to know by Dec 2nd!
@djp5293Ай бұрын
Odin 2 without question. For me the only reason to get an RP5 over an Odin 2 is to get the GC color variant which is pure novelty.
@TheTechUpdate-ui1fhАй бұрын
Personally i would say get the Odin 2 if you have a coupon that puts in in the same price range as the RP5. Once again this is purely from a analytical viewpoint based on the research i have been doing as i ihave not had hands on with it. Based on what i know though the Odin 2 is just more future proof and will run everything better. It also has a much bigger battery so you will be able to play longer. It is bulkier from what i have seen but the RP5 isn't super pocketable either. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

Hey man, I just got mine today and popped in the SD card it came with. I’m not looking to do anything fancy. But how do I get to the games? I have no clue what I’m doing lol
@TheTechUpdate-ui1fhАй бұрын
Hi There, I have not had hands on with these devices yet but im going to try and do my best to help based on the research i've been doing. From what i've seen If you bought the unit with a gamecard full of games you should be able to pop it in boot up the device and once you've gone through the initial android setup swipe down and choose the "Game mode" option to get into what is called Anbernics frontend. This is basically an app through which you can launch all your games. It should have a lisgt of systems that you can scroll through so if you want to play PS1 game for example you would scroll to the Sony PSX icon and it should take you to a list of games to play. The naming is usually abbreviated so it can be confusing. Joey over at Joey's retro handhelds has a detailed setup guide that he did on the RG556 which is the larger horizontal version of the Rg406V and it should be very similar with the 406V. Yo ucan view it at this link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hmWan3d4nNmigqc. Hope that helps.lety me know if you have any other questions and ill see what iu can do.Thanks for watching my video.
