Ah man if it were me I'd be going for a Triumph Dolomite 1850, it's like the Spitfire but so much more refined and dependable, and has been such a good car for eating up the miles on long journeys. Did a 1000 mile/16 hour road trip up to Scotland and back in mine to collect another Dolly and both performed flawlessly However I don't think that's gonna be your coming car given it's the same era as the Allegro (you mentioned it'd be somewhere halfway between the Jazz and the Allegro) and has twin carbs which you did mention can be a hassle (I don't really know what I'm doing either but they've not been to bad to sort) A more serious guess would be then perhaps a Austin Montego? Late 1980s goodness with dependable fuel injection and a 5th gear for those long trips? Maybe a Triumph Acclaim with the Honda Ballade reliability? Maybe even something more recent than that like a R8 Rover or SD3... Or something a bit bigger and ealier like an SD1 ooh

It’s good to see people in the U.K. who are passionate about Rover and MG, keeping the brand alive. Rovers design department was cutting edge but they never stood a chance against the big manufacturers which I never understood why because they had innovative ideas but the management was lousy and they never seemed to have enough money to invest in new models to compete with the competition which meant they had to rely on Honda and BMW to help them out. Such a shame why britain lost its independent car industry. We clearly have talented people in the U.K. but the story is always the same, management mess it up. The Phoenix 4 should hold their heads in shame, pretending to be the cavalry to save Rover but we’re secretly plotting to asset strip it down and sell it all off, back stabbing its loyal workforce which is shameful when the Chinese businessmen stepped in and got the Phoenix 4 drunk to get them to sign on the dotted line and sell Rover and MG off. The Chinese MG knockoff doesn’t look like an MG at all. It might be a good car but the Chinese are just using the brand to fast track their brand in the U.K. and Europe. 🇬🇧
@thtmotoring
@thtmotoring Ай бұрын
@@lg_believe333 very well said, the British car industry has a sad history of being shafted, dating right back to the 1970s. It gave the cars an unfair reputation so as you say, that’s why it’s key that they are preserved so they can be kept as living pieces of history but also so people can see that they’re much better than people give them credit for.

Try a back flush on the heating matrix for the heating issue.
@johnmoruzzi7236
@johnmoruzzi7236 29 күн бұрын
I agree...or replace the heater matrix if a proper flush doesn't work. The cooling system has been neglected and the traditional antifreeze only lasts for 2-3 years anyway. There was a recent video on LR Time where a Discovery 3 had to have its whole dashboard and console dismantled to change a heater matrix because the "far" end of the matrix (away from the pipes) became blocked and that half of the cabin would not get warm. There is at least one post '74 heater matrix available now on Ebay for a fair price...
