Allegro painting, dashboard lights and starter motor head scratching

Some more jobs on the Allegro. I end the video a bit confused.

I had an Allegro, a sandglow one, I changed the engine as it was worn out and head because the soft Valve seats burned out because of the change to unleaded in the 80s and I put electronic ignition on it, never let me down, I loved that car and yours is a beauty young man

If the starter motor was whirring but not starting, it could easily be the solenoid not engadging, check the wiring to the solenoid when 12v is applied you shoud hear it click. Possibly bad earth?

@@stevenconnor4221 thank you! Will have a look at it. Could just need a quick clean with contact cleaner. I’m going to take off the starter motor and give it a clean as well

In those kind of old cars can you block gear change or do you have to sequentially change gears?

@@Avid_Fan I usually change sequentially but block gear changing is also perfectly fine 🙂

​@@thtmotoring thanks. I've heard that in old cars before the breaking system improved in modern cars that sequentially changing down was what drivers did because the breaking system in old cars couldn't take it. I'm assuming old cars is cars from the 60s, 70s, maybe 80s.
