Your last point about track time was the best. For the vast majority of us, seat time and coaching are going to make the biggest lap time improvements. After all the discussion about LSD torque vectoring and VSC intervention under trail braking you brought it back to maximizing track time and having fun. Great video!

💯 that’s what this channel is really all about… the entire track driving experience including the actual track driving, the community and becoming a better driver. I’ll spend 24-48 hours before packing, prepping, checking the car over, waking up early, paying track fees… I want to drive and get as much seat time as possible. Afterall, if we aren’t having fun or if we all drove the same car… it would take away from the experience and community. Thanks for watching

@@DriversPaddock I've been subscribed. I'm local to the GTA and have been out for a track day with the SPDA. Do you compete in OTA only? Or do you ever run lapping days with other groups? Also, just wondering about the point you made about throttle induced oversteer. I had believed that the EN actually rotates more than the type r. This is just from what I saw in track reviews by the Topher and in a savagegeese review (with Brit Casey). But the type r is actually more oversteer prone? Or are you saying that it's easier to modulate the oversteer without having to go fully on and off the pedal. IIRC, the EN only does brake torque vectoring with traction on. Traction full off will disable it (common tip to preserve pads). Maybe that gradual rear end rotation is the rear torque vectoring being active on the fl5?
@DriversPaddock
@DriversPaddock Сағат бұрын
I do OTA, CSCS, CTAC (now discontinued), LDRC Endurance Racing, CASC Sprints and next year - hopefully SPC and WRL. I Instruct with OTA, RASER Motorsports and will be with Sieya and JRP. Watch one more time when I talk about on throttle vs off throttle mechanics. I think you may be mixing up what I am saying. FWD cars do not have throttle induced oversteer, that's not possible if the rear wheels aren't driven. What I am saying is that off throttle, the EN rotates more easily and in tighter corners, even with traction control fully off, it does grab inside front wheel to help the car rotate and help the diff bind. That's where brake Torque vectoring and brake bias yaw control differ, they are different things. What I'm saying is that on power, if you need rotation, the EN you need to lift. The nose is not as eager to tuck in - this is true for ALL FWD cars EXCEPT the FL5 CTR or UNLESS there is some brake magic going on. The reason for this is that on power mechanics for FWD cars are such that, it will always pull the car straight. The CTR with its sophisticated front and rear brake grab allows throttle adjustability mid corner that the EN just doesn't have. The car knows that if you're slightly backing off the throttle, you want the nose in so it aids in this by grabbing rear brake to rotate the car.

Great review, Jason! I remember having our stock suspension FL5 on GP last year as well (video on our channel), and it was terrifying how stiff and bouncy it was in +R. I had to set up Individual mode with everything in +R, except for suspension which I had to leave in Comfort. Just from watching the video I can see that the AST 5100 remains compliant and stable throughout the lap.

I hated Savagegeese's initial impression on FL5's R+ mode for having "too much rebound". Idk if they understood what "too much rebound" means. A blanket statement that can mean either, "too much bouncing caused by having insufficient rebound force" or "jarring bouncing, when rebound force is too high where the damper packed down". But through Jason's report, I think the R+ mode has too much rear compression damping Low to High Speed.
@DriversPaddock
@DriversPaddock 14 сағат бұрын
I’m getting a few questions on Instagram so I’ll add this here. The high speed compression damping is too high- it is over damped. In other words, it’s not compressing enough on curbs, bumps, anything with high piston speed. The rebound is under damped, in other words, it rebounds too quickly. So on high speed, you get a suspension that is resistant to compressing and when it does, it wants to spring back too quickly. On the low speed side, I find this acceptable and is actually the correct performance set up for an FF car. In an FF car, in regards to the on power mechanics, you don’t want the rear to squat. If it squats too much on power, the front wheels will have trouble putting down the power as you’re taking weight off the front axel. I’d say it’s about right, and I understand what the Honda engineers are trying to do. Also, as mentioned in the video, that will help the rear end rotate on entry and help with mid corner and exit as the driver gets on power. With our previous Audi TCR and Current Audi TT Endurance car, we have the high speed compression set to soak up all the bumps, but the low speed damping is high to achieve the best of both worlds, namely… 1. Keep the wheels on the ground over bumps and curbs, ideally keeping the tire on the ground and settling in one stroke. 2. For the rear to not compress a lot on power, keeping the weight on the front driven wheels. Thank you all for watching.

Did you do +r mode and VSA off or pedal dance?
@DriversPaddock
@DriversPaddock 14 сағат бұрын
+R, VSA off I didn’t see a point in pedal dancing as I wanted to review and experience what the Honda engineers programmed and developed… and from the review… it’s amazing. Pedal dancing just makes the FL5 a FWD car with a helical style LSD, nothing special.

The car is incredibly stable but I don’t think it can... I did an early lift and partial throttle over crest, into full throttle… a very conservative, lower risk approach. I don’t get enough feedback from the r23 to send it 10/10ths and keep in mind, I got 3 laps total. The car did slightly grab the rear inside wheel, which suggests to me the car is generating some yaw already in 4. I will say… it might very well be possible on CRS or RE71RS on a perfect day.

According to TFL's pro driver, the ELANTRA N is a fairly neutral vehicle, and you can easily control oversteer and understeer. TFL's pro driver explained that the new CTR is a car focused on understeer. That's why he's saying that. In racing, you make countless mistakes. The Elantra N is the car that the driver can effectively control those mistakes. That's why the Elantra N is winning the WTCR and Michelin Pilot championships this year. They are competing among professionals, not amateurs like this channel. Did you know that Hyundai N has surpassed the CTR in U.S. professional racing for over 9 years? i30N, Veloster N, Enlantra N. The Elantra N had a facelift this year.

Its worth it based on the lack of depreciation alone, I put 40k miles on my fk8 civic type r LE. I only lost 3.5k in depreciation. The dollor per mile cost is very low on these cars. The Elantra would have cost me more to own to due to Hyundai's horrible depreciation curve. If your buying this as primarily a track car it makes no sense, the over heating issues are near impossible to solve in any sort of cost effective manner. I don't know why would buy a hot hatch as a track car anyway, buy a dedicated platform like a SS 1LE.

Porsche should do something about this and extend it for another 5-10yrs to back up their products. Prices of the non G engine is currently selling for in the $90K range and I wouldn't touch any GT3 without the G6 engine and that is not even a bullet proof engine.
