Do people feel alienated by bright colours and men in silly trousers? I thought the old generation of Jag drivers were real men, confident with their own sexuality so much that it would take a lot more than a tight yellow roll-neck to make them question themselves 🤔

Even the Stratos Zero had an engine and moved ... I think this one is WAY before the concept stage, its a mock-up. Worst case scenario is that they are running it up the flagpole and they'll try to 'design' it based on the contributions of focus-groups ... I don't think they dare produce anything like this on a commercial basis. However, if they have already done their homework - it may be perfect for rich Chinese buyers? - may be its not for us, because it isn't for us.

The wheelbase is disproportionately long, as though someone put a coupe body on a bus chassis. This is accentuated by the straight swage lines which give the car a flattened appearance. There is no attempt to curve the bodywork over the rear arches, something which has traditionally given Jaguars a muscular appearance. The squared cut off front gives the car an unfinished look and lacks any kind of identity. I'm not going to even bother to address the appalling interior. As a concept car this looks like it was done by a child designing something for their Barbie doll, which would at least explain the colour. There is no sense of movement, no style, no reference to the design language of Jaguar. 0/10.

Basically Jaguar have rebranded for a new liberal all electric world, just as the global politic shifts to the conservative right and the electric dream is dying under the weight of climate scepticism and overbearing government interference in the market. They have pushed further up market, as other manufacturers have done the same, in fear of a Chinese cheap EV invasion, just as the Chinese economy is imploding. This week I heard BYD described as China's next Evergrande crisis. Basically, Jaguar started a journey based on a world that existed 5 years ago, and has bet the farm on following that path. It is all going to end in tears. Sorry Jaguar, it's been fun ( I loved my XJ6) but it's good bye.

EV is not dying. Please decouple that from the left insanity. EVs have nothing to do with environment hippies. Saving CO2 is a side effect. It's actually just a new option for buyers. Choose what you like the most. All engines have their charme. But Jaguar isn't able to produce really fun Jags anymore. If they were in their best times their EVs would truly be amazing. But with that woke mind ... we got that "thing".

Jaguar was dead. Its previous buyers have died or are aging. They moan about not being able to buy a new ‘traditional’ Jag but in reality they never would. Every one who wants an old style Jag has got one or can easily buy a used one. JLR has decided to use the Jaguar brand as its electric division. The Landrover division has been hugely successful and that has given JLR the resources they need. I wish them great success moving forward. Jaguar is responding to the world from about five years ago, which is a problem, as the world today is in the process of roundly rejecting the direction these advertising pinheads are trying to take the company. The big question now is how fast can they reverse course, and will it be soon enough to keep from sailing off the biggest cliff jump since Thelma & Louise?

Jaguar had to do something that's for sure. Many people are unhappy to see the old Jaguar go... but the reality is that they weren't buying new Jags. It is a bold car with presence imo... and as we know, the actual production car will be in this general style, but probably significantly different. It even occurred to me that maybe Jaguar would have a follow up campaign where this new aggressive car blows away the oddball teletubbies in a ballsy " We were just kidding" moment. I think if the unveiling was preceded by a better campaign, more people would have been open to liking this car... it is after all a powerful car with presence. I'm sure that a proper leaper and growler will be offered as option, that's what I would put on the car. A 1,000 hp car deserves a growler in front! If Jaguar is successful, I would bet they would bring back these badges in some future year. Hopefully too they offer a cool two door GT. I am certainly rooting for them. It does all make me appreciate my beautiful XK 5.0, as it's now a part of Jag history.

I've had 3 XKRs, one 4.2l and 2 with the 5L SC and love them. This new car is very, very different from the typical car designs and while it's not classically beautiful in the way the flowing XK lines are, it's got a stunning presence that's very brutal. I think the XKR looks better, but I think the materials and purity of design in this are really striking and I like that they're doing something that won't be a copy, won't be derivative of other things. This car is the car of the future promised in movies like iRobot, Minority Report, etc. and concept designs from the 90s. In fact it looks like a car from Cyberpunk 2077 (look up a car called the Herrera GTS and this Jaguar would fit in perfectly in the setting beside it). So, I'm excited a brand is bringing us something so retro-futuristic and different, and I'm excited it's Jaguar, though it could have easily been any other brand. I like the design overall, but I'm not smitten with it like I was with my Ferrari and XKRs. I think the tech for the pop out stuff is cool but needlessly complex (the word "extra" comes to mind) and I'm sad that Jaguar won't release more driver's cars like the XKR and F-Type.

@@RyneLanders Very much agree with you. It's funny as the lead up campaign was hardly pointing to a powerful, stunning and brutal car. When I first saw the rebranding video I thought, "Well, Bond villains won't be driving Jags anymore" ..... but a Bond villain could definitely drive this, although in blue or black not the pink.... lol. Imo, the teletubbies would not drive this car. Love my XK 5.0 ...but had passed on the R version. At over 100 more hp, I just thought the car would be out to kill me (was replacing as my sports car an MGB with like, don't laugh, 90 hp.) If I ever had to replace my car now though, I would get the R. Wish Jaguar the best here..... was an impossibly high bar to hit the excitement of 1961 Geneva.

@lukemallory7832 look at the sales numbers. The XE, like the Cadillac ATS/CTS/CT4 line competed against the BMW 3 series / 5 series and the Mercedes CLA/A/C classes, and both of these brands' cars failed to get a fraction of the traction those did. They failed as mass-market entry-level luxury cars, and the amount of money invested in them has dragged the brand down. In the US, the XF sold between 1/7 and 1/10 the number of sales of its competitor the BMW 5 series, which tells you something. As for the flood of cheap cars on the market, that's what happens when you have an entry-level luxury product that the buyers have to stretch to afford the note on, but can't afford the maintenance on. You see the same thing in BMW with all the clapped out 1, 2, and 3 series cars; Mercedes with the CLA, A, and C class cars, etc. Going back up market with fewer sales at higher margins means they have more money per car to develop with, ensuring better fit and finish, and fewer models to manage means fewer issues in the product line. Their upper end cars like the XJL, XKR, F-Type, etc. have trended to do very well with few issues.

It is a design study not an actual car: the idea of all of this is to gauge interest and see what works and what doesn’t. Obviously the designers have a certain amount of leeway but at the end of the design process it has to go in front of a board to be approved. I personally appreciate it. They’ve pushed some boundaries, kept some classic lines. The proportions are a bit odd but I think that’s to prepare buyers for the long bonnet on the new 4 door GT. I just really wish them well. There are some great engineers at JLR and they deserve to succeed in a world of carbon copy German nonsense.

Now I'm not saying this will work, but I think they MIGHT have a good angle. Luxury electric cars have been struggling to sell. And part of the problem is they all kinda drive the same and miss the "occasion" that something like a V12 brings. Plus apparently they haven't mentioned anything about the driving experience at all. So, paired with their ad, it might make sense to sell it more as a fashion accessory than a car. It could be enough to stand out from the competition. But it is true, previous Jaguar buyers are definitely alienated. It's bold, sheik, and seems to be the Gucci bag of the automotive industry

This is obviously the definition concept car for the forth coming design language. Don't be surprised if the production model is many steps towards practicality and rationality. I think Jag knows they are not far from dying and they have to try something obviously desperate. They have two years now to soften for the launch. But does the woke trend get stronger or weaker in that time? My bet is that it will get significantly weaker because people are full of this this woke/pervert push and the political trend is going everywhere towards right wing conservatism of some sort. Personally I think the form concept design is quite ok but the marketing campaign is pure pathetic BS.

XJS actually sold pretty well, over 100k world wide for a high end GT car. Same with the XK8/R X100, it was only the X150 that started to sell much worse. The F-Type did pretty well though for the type of car it was and for Jaguar. Jaguar was never really a high volume seller until they started to try and compete with BMW with the X-Type and later similar cars.

There it looks like a kitchen appliance--or perhaps a bathroom fitting. It id the antithesis of what made jags name in style and sinuous grace. It no longer looks menacing nor filled with coiled grace. This car does not make me want to look at it, nor run my hands along race-defined curves. The front is one huge, barely defined airdam, with sharp edges. How anyone could suggest this is parallel to the E-type has been reading (and believing) his own desperate press releases.
