@@robertsteele667 my Baja is a 74 as well. I didn’t have any problems with my shift rod. I’ve heard the type 3 shift rods can be longer but I haven’t compared the 2 for my self. Only thing I can think of is to make sure everything with the 10 degree mount is mounted correctly. All bushing etc. also make sure the hockey stick is like it should. The 3 rib has a wonky set up inside the nose cone of the trans. It’s a miracle the stick stays in place with the way it’s set up in there but it does if it’s correctly installed.

@vintagespeedvw7864
@vintagespeedvw7864 Жыл бұрын
I might do something later in the new year. The insides are pretty much the same except for the diff. You can buy a super diff for a swing axle. Best to get a good book so you can check clearances. I recommend this book from Amazon. Type 1 irs transaxle by Tim Marshall. Yes it’s irs but swing axle shares a lot of common parts. The main difference like I said is the diffs T1 IRS Transaxle Book a.co/d/82UIn34

I hope you don't mind another question, can you use the ring and bearing from the original swing axle into the IRS trans. @@edandbrendakelley4713 not sure what bearing your referring to. A swing axle and irs have different diff bearings. Also a swing axle has a different pinion bearing than an irs. A swing axle usually has a 4 bolt type bearing holder and an irs has a locking ring. It’s hard to visualize what your referring to. That book I referenced you from Amazon is a nice book with lots of pictures for reference.

@vintagespeedvw7864

I run a MSD BTM box with an attached dial that I can retard the boost anywhere from 1-3 degrees per pound of boost. It gets the boost signal via a vacuum line from the intake back to the MSD box. It’s kind of an old school way but it works. I’m not even sure if MSD sells that set up anymore. I set my distributor up like normal with max desired timing. No lock out or anything.

@vintagespeedvw7864

@@joshquiroz the SU is pretty light. Right now it’s just supported with the coupling and band clamp from the turbo. A bracket will be made soon though. It did come off once when I launched it pretty hard but it had some wheel hop that helped that. However it has never really given me any problems.
