Me and a neighbor/pilot pulled it together. They make it very easy, you don’t need much in the way of hardware and it runs smoothly 24/7. Are you nearby? I’d be happy to talk you through it in depth.

Maybe it’s not as “equipped” as we expect today but the Cessna 170 is a capable bush plane. Alaska operators may add larger tires and a beefier landing gear, STOL cuffs, micro VGs and a 180 hp engine but an original unmodified 170 will still perform in most situations.

Lots of C170s flying up here in the Alaskan backcountry would argue with you! It’s no Super Cub, but it will get in and out of some pretty remote stuff.

@@awookielearnstofly2925 exactly right! I’ve seen lots of airframe types at Hood Lake that someone wouldn’t think could operate in the bush and yet they do it everyday. An Aeronca Sedan or Luscombe 11 for example, both are pretty cool airplanes!

You always know your first time if its in your blood or not. Those who are not swept up immediately may learn to appreciate flight, but its never really part of their soul. Those of us who lit up the first time will spend the rest of our lives with an eye turned skyward. Always waiting for the next time we can leave terra firma behind. Its one of the most important things and aviator can do. Take the next generation up and teach them just how far a mile of runway can tale you.

I remember my first flight, I think I was 11, my grandpa got me a discovery flight and I instantly fell in love. I started flight training at 13 and I am now 15 and solo/checkride ready. I really want to share my story like this through KZbin but with a CFI it just gets kind of akward. Ive been the one flying the airplane including comms, landing, startup, you name it I'm doing everything and I feel like I could really make something out of it since I want it to be my career. Going to be up in Bellingham in Anacortes area this summer for a couple flights. I was curious about going to this café at Jeffco. Did you fly around the Whidbey airspace or ask them for a transition. I think it looked like you went east and south of their airspace, but then crossed the Chinook MOA? Do they ever let people call them and ask to transition their airspace or is it just too busy?
@GingerThePlane
@GingerThePlane 25 күн бұрын
Whidbey is Class C, they often allow transitions through their airspace and will provide squawk code and radar services. If they’re unable you can always go over the top, 4500 is my go-to altitude when topping Whidbey. The “land and sea” routes both work, I prefer direct but my wife isn’t a fan of being over that much water. This is an amazing area to fly in, lots to see and do just steps from your airplane. Have fun!!
