There are few things more exhilarating and terrifying in GA than when you first get handed the keys to your airplane. There's a fair amount of "Oh f***! What have I done?" But the experiences more than make up for it. Congratulations to your friend!

Exactly right! That’s my #1 key takeaway from buying Ginger and seeing that moment again on my buddy’s face the day he picked up his 172. Part elation and part terror, the “what did I do?!” moment, and then acceptance and joy!! Glad you’re enjoying your airplane, too, there’s simply nothing like it! 👍✈️🍀

One of the best, in my book. Best balance of voice-over, flying "porn", video length and flying topics. Never get bored with any videos from this channel

Hi Ed, I’m glad you liked the video! Earning a pilots license is an amazing achievement, you definitely have a lot to look forward to 👍 My whole life all I ever wanted to do was fly and maybe, if I worked hard enough, I’d have my own airplane. My wonderful wife was the driving force behind us buying Ginger, it was her support that ultimately helped us figure out a way to make it work financially. I’m grateful for every flight, thanks for watching and welcome to Ginger’s channel 👍✈️🍀

Timely video, as I’m in the process of buying my first plane -a ginger RV-12. Beyond the acquisition cost, one big decision factor for me was the relatively low cost of ownership for a simple airplane, balanced with the flying fun factor (the RV Grin) and strong factory support combined with a robust community of Vans Air Force. Of course, I’ve also dreamt of this since I started flying in 1989 …

Congratulations, Billy! You’re choosing wisely, that’s a wonderful airplane (as I’m sure you know)!! I started flying in 1990, almost as long ago as you, and we bought our 1st and only airplane “Ginger” in late 2020. Life and family interrupted my flying for periods of time and money was always placed toward educations, houses and more important things. My guess is you’ve finally reached the point where buying the RV-12 wasn’t competing with higher priority decisions, it took a long time but we both got here in the end. Hopefully your RV-12 has the Dynon Skyview HDX, we have that in Ginger and it’s a joy to fly behind. Thanks for watching and welcome to Ginger’s channel 👍✈️🍀

Thanks Russ, I really appreciate that, I can’t wait to see you in your own “little Sammy” or something else. It took us many, many years to get Ginger and I’m so grateful for this, seeing a friend go through that process and knowing it’s a goal for every pilot made the decision to make this video an easy one. Someday I’d like you to visit and fly Ginger around this area, how cool would that be?! Be well my friend! 👍✈️🍀

Go for it Russ! It may feel daunting. But the freedom is worth every penny. My Cessna 172H I flew from Riverside Cali to Doylestown was the most breathtaking experience ever. Also, write your ideas and mission to see what aircraft will fulfill most of your goals as possible. Once you wrote down your mission plane, then find a plane that you want on the plane, set a budget and good hunting!

Super great advice! Loved seeing the big 'ol smile on the previous owner's face when he saw the new owner with the plane! Can we expect some tandem flights with both of these beautiful 172s soon?

Thanks Bryce, the moment when Roger (former owner) and Bryant (new owner) shook hands is forever etched into my heart. They’re both such good guys, and I know Roger will fly in 22230 with Bryant and he has a seat with me in Ginger anytime he wants it. Yes, you will see both 172s flying together this year, I’m already looking for places we can fly to. Lots to look forward to 👍

Thanks Tom, I greatly appreciate your response and you’ve nailed exactly how I feel about it all, too! We’re both Toms, maybe that’s it, probably it’s being pilots with a passion for flight. It was pure joy for me to share this story as well as a few hard-earned lessons about buying and the ownership (stewardship actually, do we ever really own an airplane?) of such an amazing machine! See ya out there! 👍✈️🍀

I really love the way you show your ways to show us your knowledge of life and fly!, showing exactly one of my biggest dreams and what I fight for here in Colombia the country where I was born. I'm 19 currently working in all different things and all I can see so I can pay my flight hours and start my real career as a pilot, you know all of that is necessary. Hope one day to be enjoying that with my family and meet the best aviation enjoyers to fly everywhere! This is a great great inspiration, thank you so muchoooo for sharing!!! Jejeje 😁🛩️

Thanks again, Hugo! Your encouragement means a lot to me, I really appreciate it! I’m very thankful that you’re here and a part of this journey. This was a fun video to make, the handshake between new and former owners was a bittersweet moment immortalized for future owners of 22230 to see. My friend is an excellent guy, he will make this 172M perfect in time and I look forward to flying together to lots of cool places here in the PNW. I’m already flight planning a visit to Salem, looking forward to meeting you one day soon. Be well my friend! 👍✈️🍀

Nice video, what are there reasons you like a high wing vs a low wing?
@GingerThePlane
@GingerThePlane Жыл бұрын
Personal preference, I’ve flown lots of low wing aircraft, too. I like having 2 doors, a vertical side of the fuselage by the cockpit, shade from the sun, cover from rain (at airshows) and greater flexibility with landing surfaces. There are lots of attributes that make low wings great but I’ll stick with high wings. Thanks for asking and welcome to Ginger’s channel 👍👍

I think finding and knowing where you going to park an aircraft, RV, boat should be first step before buying taking possession. In my local sub market hanger space is scarce. Second step is talk to an asset protection attorney and a tax planning firm. Figure out best practices for ownership and saving taxes for your mission. No most boats do not cost what you describe unless you are talking about large liveaboards with complex systems and expensive marina fees and you pay someone to keep up with everything. Sounds like you are talking about hobby flying. Light sport aircraft is probably a better choice for hobby flying. LSA can be less expensive to buy and cheaper to earn hours in. I think you can work in your own LSA so repairs and maintenance is much less money than certified aircraft. A lot of certified aircraft are going to fit under new LSA rules soon. In 2025. I’m different than your hobby outlook. I look at aircraft as a piece of real estate. They share a lot of same ownership entity needs as a risky asset; you should segregate risky assets away from your safe assets. do not own risky assets in your own name; If you are only a hobby aircraft owner, you should form a PNP corporation, and a flight club. A flight club may be mom, dad, sister, brother. A flight club applies for tax exempt status for aircraft. 501(c)(7)as I recall. Immediately save on sales tax, use tax, local property tax. Aircraft used 50% or more for a business purpose, aircraft have the same tax reducing benefits as REI; fractional ownership suits aircraft ownership like real estate. My goal is aircraft earns a living and reduces my taxes like a single rental property can. If I ever want to move up aircraft can be section 1031 like kind exchange into a aircraft just like real estate. My 2 cents.
