Follow the instructions in Dynon's comprehensive User Manual, this should always be your source of direction on how to perform an update.
Per Dynon (certified aircraft), routine monthly airport/ aviation/ obstacles updates may be done by the pilot, but extensive system software version updates must be performed by an authorized A&P / repair station.
As always, thanks for watching! Please subscribe, like the video and leave a comment, I appreciate your support, many thanks!

Congratulations on your new 172, we bought Ginger in Sept 2020 (must be a good month for buying airplanes)! The best advice I got was to take my time, fly the airplane for a while, and really understand your mission. Then research what you want (HDX 👍), find an experienced shop to do the work, and enjoy your new panel. Dynon really has something special in the HDX, after 2 years and 200 hours of flying this panel I’m still pinching myself, #grateful. 👍✈️🍀

Thank you for posting this video. If I may I have a few questions ........ if you can do a very basic rundown of the installation systems for the HDX as to the operation and installation of Software, Aviation/Obstacles and Approach Plates updates. Do they go on separate chips are they all on the same chip ??? I have a 1973 C-173M Dynon HDX with Dynon auto-pilot and Garmin 430W GPS for Certified IFR Are there 3 different things that need updating #1-Dynon software (basically the Operation System) for the HDX #2- Charts and airport information that go on the screen map (not counting approach plates) #3-Approach plates (that I get from Seattle Avionics) Do I need 3 separate chips to keep everything updated . I only have one USB port for my Dynon system chip, so i think I have to leave the Approach plate database from Seattle Avionic inserted, does the software up date and the Aviation/Obstacles all get loaded on to one chip ??? Could you please do a very basic explanation of how the chips and update system works. Do I need to have G430W , HDX screen, and Auto pilot all on when doing updates ???? Thanks again and I'd really appreciate your help !!!!

Hi Ken, a good read through the Skyview HDX user’s manual and a call to Dynon’s customer support line would be my recommendation. It sounds like you have a lot going on, I’m not a qualified expert in the systems so anything I’d say may be incomplete or incorrect. I’m not an IFR user either, my setup is VFR only at this time. Call Dynon, they’ll have the right answers.
