You can tell from his variations in his attack, his fairly sparing use of the left hand in a dominant chord at a little bit higher volume, his laying down in the weeds to allow the other musicians to shine... he is flat FEELING what he is playing. Some people would call that having "talent"... I would call it having "soul" instead.

I wish that I could have had the privilege to see him perform in person. I didn't know nothing about him, except when the Cosby show did the right time. After the movie Ray, I was hooked. I even bought a couple of the movie soundtrack CD's.

Let the church say Amen to this soulful version by the right Rev. Ray Charles. The band and choir sisters are right on time.❤❤❤

Heard Ray Charles in Tokyo back in about 94 or 95. When you really listen every word and phrase is so nuanced and full of soul. Absolutely love him.

Ray Charles not only played piano but he also taught himself to play the organ, alto saxophone, clarinet and trumpet. Frank Sinatra was absolutely right when he said “Ray Charles is the only true genius in our business.”
