This is a rare Ray gem we were all just treated to there, notice how the master can recusitate a tired little tune like "My bonnie" and transform it into a soul gospel tour de force. He truly was a Ray of Light...

Yes! Ray could transform old songs like Bonnie, or say Swanee River, into the most soulful music you had ever heard. What a soulful, innovative musician he was with whatever he chose to play!

First saw Ray Charles live in 1962. I Went to his concerts anytime I could and saw my 20th concert in 2000, 4 years before he died. Every concert was, in the words of Joe Adams his manager, an experience in "the captivating, invigorating and scintillating sounds of the Genius-the genius of Ray Charles". He was a musical genius and one of the few who could make you laugh and cry in the same damn song. Miss him.'

It's also worth noting how willing Ray was to share the stage with other amazing talents, like the backup singers and Mr. Newman.

Sometimes I wish they had tv in color, so I could see which color were dresses and the whole stage, but then I realize this black and white is exactly what this song needs, soo smooth and nice :)

This reminds me when I was a kid I used to listen to every nuance of Ray's records, over and over, even the off the record sighs and interjections of Ray and the Rayletts, like the little exchange that begins with Marjorie's(?), what's the expression, sotto voce, 'Well well' behind Fathead's solo.

Fathead didn't get Ray messed up on dope. The movie got it wrong. I've had the pleasure of meeting and playing with him, and I can assure you that he is one of the kindest, most generous people you're likely to meet, and his playing is as sharp as ever.

Just checked your profile. Very impressive. I think I finally found a guitar player who knows when to shine and when to let others shine. I get so tired of the Rock Star wannabes. I front a blues band and I encourage these guys to listen to Guy, Sumlin, BB King. Even Clapton's blues work. "See how they get out of each other's way when they play," I say. Alas, sometime all they hear in their heads is "Oooh, I get to be a star now." Wish you were around here.
