Is it true that at the time of this film and court case no one knew about the Tsarevitch's hemophaelia? When did that information become known by the general public?

If you can’t tell from the last name here, she is a cousin. And I’m super proud! Though obviously I am related on her father side. It’s one of the dreams of my life to visit Hawaii.

Lord.... That's a sad story... She was still clutching his photo when he died 🥺 jeez. Love her resilience though. She's sat out 7 years in the sanitarium because she wouldn't yield. That's some mental strength.

It's ironic that many modern women do not want their daughters to be referred to as princesses. They feel that this play name is a sign of weakness. If they had even a clue about this life in the historical context they would realize this was no easy ride. These women were strong and smart and often took over their husbands role, and usually had UP TO 20 children to keep their family name on the throne.

That’s not what the mahele was but the outcome still happened as explained. Just for different reasons. The Mahele was for natives not foreigners. And all land was still vested in perpetuity to the King for the natives. Foreigners could only lease land. Mahele was an effort of the King to preserve land for natives, especially given that the rules of international relations at the time gave respect for private land owners. So if a country was to take over the government, the natives rights to their land was still intact. Mahele was NOT successful as much as it should have because various reasons. Understanding from the natives is a reason, but so was the need to travel from far distances in order to register for land. Hawaiians always owned land, otherwise why would anyone claim it was stolen. The concepts and responsibilities of ownership was different in the mind of Natives vs Foreigners.

The wiki leaks picture used in your thumbnail is not the Queen of Hawaii, that is some white washed version.

You need to know what King Liopold did to the people of Congo. Please search for his letter to the missionaries in Congo and what he instructed them to do. Very despicable king.

This is an interesting version ... isn't it true that Queen Ka'ahumanu was an avid adherent to the new religion of Chritianity and that was why she was so instumental in abolishing the Kapu system ?

Mahalo for this four part series. There’s so much history surrounding kai’u’s life but you’ve truly consolidated the information. Women have played such crucial roles in the history of our world. Very much so with the storied history of Hawaii and the Kanaka Maoli. You are blessed with the voice of a storyteller and the sensitivity of one who is loving. Mahalo for who you are and what you do. You keep all our histories current for all of us to learn and remember. Mahalo Nui Loa. Look forward to listening to your other stories.

I loved these 4 videos. I am a white person living in Hawaii. I have been asking how the Hawaiians lost their lands. Thank you for telling the heart wrenching story if the loss of their lands, the monarchy and the illegal over throw. I fee so much more informed

Mahalo nui for these 4 parts of Princess Ka'iulani; I wept for joy. My only criticism is your pronunciation of the name Davies: it's pronounced "Day-veez", not "Davis". I'm part of that family, so I know.
