I used SuperTech in a 92 Saturn for the last 200,000 miles of it's life and it was running perfectly until I got T-boned. I'm not recommending SuperTech, but does anyone truly know where their oil comes from? Believe half of what you see and none of what you read or hear. I wish I could convince my in-laws to stop watching MSNBC I will probably only use SuperTech this one time to help clean out the engine. I already found some Valvoline on sale for my next oil change.

Cheapest filter? How do you know it filters any good? You're probably paying a premium for the chrome. Did they sacrifice on the filter media quality? It 'looks dirty'? Based on what evidence? Your eye-balls are accurate for measuring oil contamination? Didn't look 'dirty' to me... You might want to have the floor better protected from dropping oily dip-sticks and used filters... Torqueing your drain plug? How about buying a proper torque wrench and following the manufacturer's recommendations? Most drain plugs are over-tightened. There's no good reason to change your oil every 1,000-miles. How long was your bike running with your garage doors closed. CO gas is fatal... When checking your oil level, how about running it before finally topping it to the 'full' level?

Gary, ninety percent of the time you get what you pay for. If you buy a three-dollar filter, that's what you'll get. If you had used your time to watch the video instead of criticizing it, you would have seen it is indeed motorcycle oil. This was also stated in the commentary. Yes, Gary, my eyeballs were calibrated in Bangladesh back in 2017. I am now seeing down to 3 microns at 20/20. If this oil didn't look dirty to you, you shouldn't be operating a motorcycle or anything else for that matter. Switching oil brands is something you have to be careful about. Different oils use different detergents. The previous owner probably used something other than Mobile1 for years, and the Mobile1 cleaned out much of the remnants being left behind by this other oil. This is a very good reason to monitor it, change it, and use different brands. Thank you for your concern about my garage floor. I'll try to do better in the future.

@@TriumphSpeedTripleMaintenance I did watch the whole video and did see you mention near the end how it was rated 'motorcycle oil', so I edited out my question whether it was, as you can see. I find if I post while I watch I tend to not forget what I want to say, and respond accurately, so sorry if you read it before I removed the comment. My point is what evidence do you have that your oil needed changing? No one I know of recommends changing at 1,500-miles, unless there's good reason. Most have change frequencies as much as ten times that. Because it 'looks dirty' doesn't cut it, otherwise every oil analysis company in the market would always come back with 'change your oil', instead of hard evidence of deteriorated oil additives, and/or contamination, and/or actual signs of wear particles that are typical of most oil analysis reports. Oil gets' dirty' from the micron sized combustion ash that blows by the rings on every combustion stroke. If the filter is good enough (few cheap filters are) they capture any particles large enough to cause wear or clog up oil flow. Most engines darken their oil within a few hundred miles. Doesn't mean your engine is no longer protected. I've seen Oil Analysis Reports from high mileage engines that show the oil still had high levels of wear protection, and additive quality remaining, while showing little oil contamination, or signs of wear particles. Actual Evidence does not lie... I've seen several high mileage engines torn down that have basically followed manufacturers' change intervals and which had little wear, including still having most of the hone marks remaining on their cylinders. None of them changed oil at 1,500-miles... I've put 165,000-km on my BMW R-1150-RS changing my oil at about 8,000-km on average, and rarely had to adjust my valves, and have almost no oil consumption during that period, and I don't baby my engine. As to your comment "you get what you pay for", why do you think the 'cheapest oil and filter you could find' were your best choice?

@@garymaclean6903 Joking aside, you make some good points. However, for my piece of mind, an oil change is cheap insurance and cheaper than an oil analysis. I am only this particular on my bike and my Vette. My other vehicles are on a 5000 mile schedule. Thanks for you comments.

Don't know if it still is needed but the clip needs to be rotated so that the open end is facing inward. The two hoses laying on the engine just below and to the right of your finger while pointing out the clip are routed through and managed by that clip.

Hello! Awesome video as always. I just recently changed my oil and filter on my 05. I did not have the service records and am not sure when it was last done, but I will say that the filter was on TIGHT. I had to borrow a filter remover tool to get it off and I’m sure you know it is tight in there. I did end up choosing the KnM filter specifically because it did have the nut on the bottom and I could avoid all that shenanigans. I just last weekend replaced the fork seals and fork oil. Quite the job on the seals, I had to machine some custom tools to get the job done. Since then I’ve been trying to track down some lean running and stuttering/ misfiring idle issues. I am trying to experiment with Tuneboy but no luck so far. Keep up the videos 👍

why did you pick the 06 over the 08?
@TriumphSpeedTripleMaintenance
@TriumphSpeedTripleMaintenance Жыл бұрын
The 06 was the only thing available on Cycletrader at the time. It was just pure dumb luck that I ended up with it. I was sick of wasting my time at dealerships so my options were limited. I looked for a Kawasaki 650 for over a year but I didn’t want to spend more than 5k. So after missing my chance on a BMW 800 I narrowed it down to an 05 Ducati (which looked awesome) and the Triumph. I was leaning towards the Ducati. It looked brand new, bright red with a silver trellis frame and 15k miles. But it was the limited production number, availability of parts, and the desmodromic valves that swung me to the Triumph.

Oh man! I am so glad you have this channel & that I just found it! I picked up an '09 speed triple back in June. Gorgeous bike, I love it! My entire motorcycle experience has only ever been Japanese sportbikes, which are super simple to work with, available parts a plenty, & a huge library of detailed manuals. I assumed that nothing should be different for a European bike, wrong! First thing I wanted to do was get new tires, brakes, & fluids, as you do. Pretty simple tasks, but as I go to take the wheels off, I realized that the sexy looking single swingarm was going to be a problem. I'm sure you know where this is going, but that's when the fun began... I started digging, realized how difficult it was to find parts, most specialty parts are discontinued, the service manual is so vague it's more like a Haynes manual, & there's mostly only super old discussion boards that have long since been abandoned. Anyways...didn't mean to write this much, but you have no idea how happy I am to have just found someone currently doing my generation speed triple (the best looking gen IMHO) content on yt. It has been a frustrating couple of months. So thank you Sir! Subscribed & look forward to catching up on all your content!

Do yourself a favor and get the shift change assembly from a Daytona 955i. It mounts directly to the shifter shaft and completely eliminates all those ball joints and the slop associated with them. It looks completely stock and is how Triumph should have shipped the Speed Triple from the factory. They're a bit pricey at around $100, but it's some of the best money I've spent on my own '06 Speed. The part number T2080924 .
