One thing I don't quite get is the function of the shroud around the barrel cluster. It must have been in place for a reason, being this thick and heavy

weird to think these had starter motors a decade before Fords. But hey, if it can turn a prop, it can turn an engine over. And it always amazes me what I learn when I watch these. I know WHAT a governor does, but I had no clue HOW it limits/adjusts the throttle setting
