My e-bike has renewed my love of cycling, even at 80 years. The guy who said you get more exercise by sitting on the sofa and scratching your ass is talking out of his 😅

I'm not against E-bikes, but my thoughts are if you're healthy then you don't need one. I'm now seeing more e-bikes on my local mountain bike trails than normal bikes; it can be a bit of an issue when the e-bikers are overtaking you on the uphills, then completely getting in the way and slowing you down on the downhills and the technical sections.. I'm getting on a bit, and if I needed one for medical reasons I'd get one, but until then, no way.

I have 5 traditional bikes (road, gravel, touring, etc) and 1 ebike. You don't have to be old or disabled to enjoy riding an ebike. My traditional (no motor) gravel bike is my favorite. But some days I just want to explore, so the ebike is good for that. And here's a fun fact. Many pro mountain bikers use an ebike for their zone 2 training rides ( beats an indoor trainer)

@alethearobinson8132 you sound just like me. It is nice somedays to just have a lovely ride without all of the exertion. I usually still get home very sweaty though. I can't get out of the habit of pushing hard on those hills. I have 5 settings on mine and I rarely go beyond 2. I even switch it off entirely on some of the shorter climbs just to test myself. I used to be a negative ninny about them, but now I see them as a ride on a day that I probably would have took a day off. They are brilliant invention.❤

I bought an e-bike in 2017 because I wanted to make scenic indoor cycling videos. I was too slow climbing the scenic Colorado mountains where I live to make decent videos. The e-bike solved the problem. What surprised me was all the other benefits I discovered. With the e-bike I was riding more and in more places. I was no longer intimidated by tough climbs, strong wind, or fast group rides. I actually got more fit riding with the e-bike as measured by the data from my Garmin Edge and heart rate monitor. The e-bike put me in control of my workouts, not the hills or wind. On a regular bike there were times when I would take on too big of a challenge with long climbs or strong headwinds. I would become exhausted miles from home and be forced to ride slowly which makes the ride that much longer. With an e-bike I can simply increase the level of assist. I suddenly go faster, cool off with the increased breeze, and break out of the doldrums with the exhilaration that comes with speed. My KZbin channel is Jerry's Scenic Cycling. My viewers are mainly male over 65. I have over 23,000 miles on my e-bike and I'm 80 years old.

EBikes are not all ridden by lazy people. However, if you are reasonably fit and start riding an eBike you WILL LOSE FITNESS. 😢

I am 74 and still going very well on my non-electric bike thanks but quite likely in a few years I'll be looking to add a motor to my cycling. Anything that keeps you mobile on two wheels for longer is just fine by me!

Nice video, I've been cycling for more years than I care to remember on a road bike, but I recently have suffered a lower back injury one of my vertebrae has moved forward and causing pain I push on the pedals so I am seriously thinking about getting an e bike like the Orbea gain D20

E bikes are great for older people, comuting or sick people. But as a purist I will never buy one. Also the production of E bikes is not good for the environment. They have similar problems as electric cars when it comes to the environment.

In my daily travelings in the bike I see maybe 1 e-bike rider pedaling all the rest are coasting along with most of them on the sidewalk ignoring the bike lane. If it has a motor it’s a motor bike not a bicycle

I see that also in the hilly city of Sheffield. But I got an ebike in 2016 and I love to see how many miles I can get between a charge. I have a 17 AH battery and my record is 354 miles before draining the battery. I never go on the footpath and pretty much always obey the rules of the road. I bought the bike as I do a very physically demanding job,and as I don't drive, some of my commutes can be in excess of 50 miles a day. I was shattered at the weekends as a result. Now I have the energy to ride my road bikes at the weekend and I actually feel fitter as a result. I agree there are a lot of lazy ebike riders that I see not even pedalling, but at least they are not sat indoors vegetating. Each to their own I say. I still prefer my normal bikes, but I feel very fortunate to have the choice,it is one of the few modern things that I actually love, and I am a cynical old git😅

Got me a Scott Solace eRide 20 last August and drove over 4.000 kilometers on it. Pure fun and the difference between having this ebike compared to having a normal bike is the amount of kilometers which I had never rode on a normal bike for sure these days, because I wasn't fit at all and I hate riding uphill and against the wind. So at that point I am lazy and fun oriented to some extend, yes. So far, the ebike motivates me almost any time at almost any weather and I had 100 percent fun riding it. Even in the winter months, which are not that hard here in Germany to be fair but anyway. So I think, it was a good investment in my health, I'm quite fit now and even had no gripal infect last autumn/ winter season as well. Also the TQ motor allows to set up how strong the motor support should be on different scales. It also motivates to level the support down to gain the overall distance of the planned tours. If I'm tired from work or something but still want to have some bike fun, I chose a bit more motor support. So these days are not that effective and a bit lazy, but still better than sitting on a sofa relaxing in the end, I guess. Ok, a lot of text. Hope it wasn't too boring reading this ordinary opinion. By the way, I'm 50 years old, if that's of any interest to anybody.

I have a Scott Patron e-bike with a 750 watt hour battery, with a range of 90 miles in eco, I just added a powermore 250 watt hour extender pushing it up to around 120 miles I absolutely love the bike it gets me out along country lanes and along the side of the rivers taking in the sights and wildlife, I’m glad at 63 with arthritis of the hips and knees I can still get out on a bike, we do find snobbery amongst fellow mountain bike clubs but he ho

I'm 77 and have been riding serious miles on various road bikes for 37 years. I raced on a team for a number of years. Several years ago I was one who scoffed at electric bikes, calling them "Mopeds". But that was because I was ignorant of what they are all about. I studied the various types of e-bikes and found that they come in 3 distinct types, 1, 2 and 3. I chose type 1 because it does not have what I call a throttle as the other types do. Type 1 just adds wattage to your effort. If you stop pedaling, the added power also stops, you must continue to add your normal effort in order to have the extra push. I now can ride further and maintain a quicker pace. I get the benefit on hills and against the wind. I too can turn off the assist and do if I have a nice tail wind and the extra weight is not felt. My ride is a LOOK e-765.

Good vlog and totally agree - ebikes are just a natural progression of innovation in cycling. To use the "ebike haters" logic, anything other than a "fixie" is "cheating" and therefore everyone on the Tour de France are "cheaters" - try saying that to Pogačar's face!!! Might be worth a follow up just explaining that it's limited pedal assist, which cuts out at 15.5mph etc etc - sometimes just have to spell it out for the plethora of idiots out there 🤔

@@paulvango the worst bigotry seems to come from a certain group of MPs and Councillors who repeatedly complain about ebikes terrorising neighbourhoods and pedestrianised areas, when predominantly it's "hoody rats" pulling wheelies on e-motobikes on their way to their next £10 drug deal (or similar).
