Much better on the bridge pickup. The neck pickup sounds muddy.

It doesnt buzz when ur hand is on strings because there is always small vibrations in the air that makes the strings vibrate a bit and pickup gets that and makes it a buzz

Should I just use my computer speakers? This is getting ridiculous; no amp is perfect it seems, and everyone is a little worse than we are told. I like the honesty in this video. More please. And what about a video showing how to ground the amp, using 'no buzz, no hum' adapter, or a noise gate pedal. Thanks for the video.

I bought the 20RT almost a year ago - and I've been playing out with it - and it more than rocks! I don't expect I'll need to upgrade it - ever - because it's just so damned powerful, although the only upgrade I'd consider is the Crush 35RT. As for the people going on about other amps (presumably with all sorts of effects and modelling syatems) - do you want to spend your time playing with gadgets - or do you want to make music; a fairly simple choice really.....

Thanks for the video and insight. I bought one of these used, nearly new and I am just getting into a position now where I am going to make it a project - essentially lose the small speaker, cut down the box and re Tolex to form a head unit, audio outlet and then the internal diode MOD which opens the amp up to its true power (and cleans up the OD channel I am told) - the stock amp is artificially limited by VOX. If I can get my head on and find the time I will photograph and video the progress with the parts info (which means collating the several mod sources I have now) - this will include the company that can provide the VOX (like) cloth, metal work and logo for the speaker cab - to match it all up. I might even turn the Tolex brown or cream on both as this would look great with the gold. All the links will be UK accessible - here is a Tolex supplier to kick off. shorturl.at/wF59C

I will need to revisit the amp and see what I think of the gain 3 years later. However, I still think it has a great clean tone. Thank you for watching and commenting.

Bought this model a year ago... I've stopped wanting a Fender amp... or a Vox! I use it with a Cube Baby - ans some good IRs - and entertain at some local venues... and it meets every requirement I have - except being battery powered. I just can't fault the sound for blues, pop and jazz!

Crush 20RT is a better bet - wiith a really usable reverb - and I'd put the 20W of my Crush 20RT against 50W of anyone else's amp!I Use mine for folk, jazz, pop and blues - and with a little Cube Baby feeding it... it's glorious! PS - it took me almost 50 years to buy my first Orange - and tbh it's versatile enough that I don't think I'll need to buy any other amp after this - except maybe the Crush 35RT....

It's also VERY GEAR AND PLAYER DEPENDENT! For example, one of my amps doesn't like anything below 5 on the EQ without sounding muddy and garbled. Meanwhile, on a different amp I keep the Bass around 2 or 3 otherwise it becomes too prominent. In a word: EXPERIMENT! The electric guitar offers such a a vast soundscape and playing with all sorts of gear is lots of fun (IMO)

Regarding the difference in cabinets: I have a Cannabis Rex in my Blues Jr. I used a jumper to play the C-Rex, still mounted in the Blues Jr, with the amp section of the Champion 40; essentially exactly what you did here. You are correct…the C-Rex is a LOT louder! Like, 2 or 3 numbers on the Master volume louder. As far as tonal differences, I find the stock speaker to be pretty good, actually. What the C-Rex does is shave off the offensive upper-most spikes when using a decent amount of gain. It smooths out the distortion and fattens up the overall sound. It’s a superior sound, but too loud for the purpose I purchased the amp. So, I have ordered a Jensen MOD 12-35 for it. Shaves the highs and fattens the bottom end, like the C-Rex, but more like the stock speaker, in terms of volume and weight. And it’s a lot less expensive, as well.

Apples and oranges. You need a cart to carry the fender amp. Absolutely love mine. Enough volume to match your un amplified voice for busking. It is also small enough to walk and play. It also works great as a preamp for a louder speaker Only design flaw. Placement of powder switch means it is way too easy to turn the amp on while you're putting it away That means dead batteries when you go to use it again .Add something to shield switch from accidental power ons. Huge success in a micro amp; excellent clear tone. A friend, way better than me, couldn't help from sitting there envying the tone of this little amp against his Street Cube amp. Yeah, volume is stronger on bigger, more expensive amps. But, that is not the point of an amp lighter and smaller than your kid's lunch box.

I Have the Katana Haven't checked out the others. But it is way obvious that the comparison amps are significantly bigger and heavier than the Katana. For my $100 for a genuinely small amp, I'd stick with the Katana. Here's my review: Absolutely love mine. Enough volume to match your un amplified voice for busking. It is also small enough to walk and play. It also works great as a preamp for a louder speaker Only design flaw. I appreciate your lectures on this amplifier - I got it last night at GC, and a nice Stratocastor. It was before you were born ( mid 60's) as when I had a Mustang and my Fender Delux which did not even include reverb. I was impressed with all that is included in the functional scope of the Champ 20, and enjoy your examples in demonstrating how to make use of it - thanks Now I will relearn as wanting to accompany my own keyboard work. I got flat wounds to put on as I have no callouses -
