My headcanon with Mother 3 is that Giygas is essentially living on in Porky's body. In a sense, Giygas is still the main antagonist in Mother 3 (and therefore not just the first two games but the entire series), since he is the one that set everything in motion for Porky to take over the nowhere islands.

I remember one time that I randomly died going out of bounds as a kid, I saw Marios Hat disappear and Bowser turned the screen black as he does. Was the creepiest shit ever. I think I panicked as a kid because I was just playing the game and realized Bowser was "looking" at me the whole time, waited until I hit out of bounds to give me a GameOver. I went immediately to kill him and throw him off the stage.

Was that ‘Wario apparition’ really only in some games? I don’t know too much about the lore here as I’m not really a gamer, but I 100% remember seeing that when I used to play this on the N64 I got the year it released in ‘96. Definitely do much creepy crap in that game but it was tons of fun. Might have to bust it out on the switch again soon for old times sake lol.

Not sure if this considered good news but Armed Fantasia seems to be a spiritual successor of Wild Arms series. I do still like Sony to publish new games or even remakes.

Wild Arms is my favorite game to this day. WA2 was good but deserved a better translation, for sure. WA3's only real issue was how slow-paced and frequent the combat was, and how much it took to grind out levels or the best items. WA5 was fine, albeit a bit trite in its story and trying to be the halfway point between the first few games and the abhorrent thing that called itself WA4 (yes, the game calling itself 4 actually was bad). People lost interest by the time 5 came out because its story, its music, and attempt to return to puzzle solving akin to 1-3 were not enough; the damage done by the previous game had been done. Now many of the original developers are making the crowdfunded spiritual successor, Armed Fantasia. All we fans can do now is wait and hope.

My theory is that it's a cut final battle against the Mani Statue which was the true villain all along. Perhaps after Porky was eternally imprisoned the damned thing set its sights on Lucas. I came up with this idea that the Porky you fight in Mother 2 is not the Porky you interact with in the beginning of the game. Who is just a flawed child and not even all that bad at that point. I think this future version of Porky was on a primary mission to bring the Mani Statue to Onett Porky. In this way the statue corrupts Onett Porky and sets him on the path to becoming what you face in that armored battlesuit. In other words, Future Porky creates himself. I also think that Future Porky tried to become the right hand of the then, unmutated Giygas only to trick the alien into thinking the Mani Statue was going to really power him up. Instead it ripped Giygas into psychic shreds and enslaved him. At this point Giygas stopped caring about conquest and just wanted the pain to stop. So it called out to the 'strong' to put it down to end the horrible existence it was condemned to.

Sorry, commenting as I'm watching as just thought about the fact that Super Mario 64 was most of ours introduction to virtual 3d worlds. The liminal quality of the spaces could come from the pure shock of us experiencing something truly uncanny for the first time. This is a recognizable world that I (through a television set and controller) can manipulate and control and yet it is not the world. I think thats why this game in particular may have that feeling. If you bring this up, note that I haven't finished the video yet!

I also had a running theory where things get a little 'woo' even for the Mother series. That theory is the Porky you fight at the end of the game isn't the Porky you meet at the beginning of the game. This is a temporal variant from the future where he's already evil beyond redemption. This is the true mastermind of the events of Mother 2. One can infer Giygas got blown up by the Mani Statue and turned into a tornado of agony. He's not the antagonist at all but a tortured slave. Porky may have appeared before him and offered up the statue with promises of power. Giygas took the bait and suffered for it. But Giygas was only a distraction. The real objective is to bring the statue to... And corrupt his past self. Who at this point is just a child. But for the cycle to continue this has to happen. By the time the game ends the tragedy is you were unable to prevent this from happening and Porky is driven mad. There was a cut boss fight in Mother 3 that seemed to indicate that a true final battle would take place against the Mani Statue itself.
