The clear coat can turn yellow over time with sunlight exposure, unless you get an expensive one. It just wasn't worth the cost to me.

Maz- I applied grommets to the black duck canvas, as I was completing that process it was getting more difficult to compress the grommet and cutting the fabric out of the center. I returned that tool to Amazon and purchased a new one. I'll update on the success of that one when I receive it.
@buildsbymaz3 күн бұрын
Sorry to hear that. Maybe the tool you got was defective or not as sharp as it should've been - Hope the new one works for you.
@jeffmartin21923 күн бұрын
Maz - bought the same screen. The same grommet set from amazon. I don't know if mine is defective but my grommet tool will not cut the hole and the grommet will not crimp on itself. The impact screen seems so durable that the grommet will not penetrate the screen. Any ideas what to do next? great video by the way.
@buildsbymaz3 күн бұрын
Have you tested the grommet tool on other materials to make sure it works properly? I had to really squeeze down when putting holes into the impact screen because it is pretty thick.

I am really interested in building a simulator identical to your and I’m struggling to pull the trigger. I was wondering if you can send a list of all of the items you purchased for yours so I can price it out in todays prices. You did a great DIY video and I appreciate people like you that take the time to help others that are like minded.

I have links to everything listed in the video description! Hopefully prices should be very similar to what I have in the video.

this is the video I didn’t know I’d been waiting for. I have a really large detached garage and I’ve been flirting with (more like procrastinating) with building my own sim. I’d found a good setup from Carl’s but didn’t want to put that much $$$ into it. This is perfect! Thanks!!! No more excuses now!

I finished my 3rd garage floor over the years with this product and it looks terrific. The steps he explains are very important to follow. I have used 2 applications of clear coat for best results- I spent a few bucks more paying for the second clear coat applicatin and it really gices so much more resiliance and protection- makes the coating last much longer. Also, the "technical" help people at Rustoleum are really great for help and assistance.

I don't understand the moisture test because my floor can be completely dry at times and sometimes wet from moisture so just because its dry after 24 hrs doesn't mean it will be in 48 hrs after you've already painted the floor.
@buildsbymaz11 күн бұрын
If you have moisture coming up through the concrete from under ground, it will always be there. You can search some videos for concrete moisture test which can better explain it.
@kr528911 күн бұрын
@buildsbymaz ok, I painted my floor probably 30 yrs ago, and it's held up good other dragging tools across it scratching it but it sweets a lot at times, but it's never peeled anywhere

My only criticism is that wearing a protective face equipment shouldn’t be the only safety gear. The biggest organ on your body is your skin. Therefore protective clothing is equally important as well.
@jorge24212 күн бұрын
Step 1: make sure there's no moisture. Step 2: put down a lot of moisture
@buildsbymaz12 күн бұрын
The moisture test is to make sure there's no internal moisture coming up through the concrete from the ground, which will cause the epoxy to fail over time. It's different than surface moisture.

In older homes a lot of basement floors are angled slightly intentionally, so that water flows towards the drain. So in those cases, you might want to not level it out.
@buildsbymaz12 күн бұрын
Very true! The leveling compound is really just meant for small uneven dips in the subfloor

thanks for making the best video on the subject by far i was halfway through planning my enclosure when i found your video and amazingly we had all the same ideas regarding duck cloth, the grommet tool, and the tarps website pipe fitting kit. you saved me at least 50% on the impact screen over something like carl's place, and now i have an instructional video for assembly when everything else gets here tomorrow. the machine screw tip was elite as well, thanks a million

@@buildsbymaz everything went swimmingly- instead of string to affix the duck canvas to the pipes i bought a pack of neodymium bar magnets and they worked perfect and stay hidden even with the cloth pulled taut

One more question Maz you say to allow 3” wider side frame then your impact screen do you suggest the same for the top of frame 1.5”
@buildsbymaz17 күн бұрын
It depends how you are attaching the bottom. If you are just looping it under the frame like I did, then you don't need to worry about it. The weight of the screen will naturally put tension on the top bungees.
@DannyBensonGolf18 күн бұрын
I'm going to copy this but with 7ft of height because that's all my space allows. My only concern is if a ball hits into the side fabric, won't it just slide along the fabric and behind the foam and out the back of the enclosure?
@buildsbymaz18 күн бұрын
Normally if a ball does hit the side it will bounce off rather than slide along it. I haven't had any balls go out the back.
