@WritinRealSlowКүн бұрын
Except we know that's not the case, since she bloodbent the leader of the ravens in book 3 of avatar. Disliking something and being traumatized by it are two different things. No, katara wasn't there because of the long-running trend of minimizing her role that's been going on in the franchise ever since the first show ended. The writers simply forget about her or don't consider her important enough to play a bigger role.

Great video, you captured my experience with Laezel. I didn't like her at first, found her rude and interfering and nagging. She seemed like a bully, always second guessing my choices. Then the Creche came and she was so confused and heartbroken. Even Shart was concerned. Then Voss came along and suddenly, I was determined to save Laezel from Vlakith. The ending at the Docks, when Laezel rode off on a red dragon, I was bawling like a proud parent.

Literally after the "teefling" scene I warmed up to her. If you give her a chance you realize how terrified she if. She's alone, in a plane she knows nothing about with strangers, infected by the one thing her species bases their life on killing...She 100% is facing the worst day imaginable for a Gith when she meets the MC. Even then she offers them a cure instead of immediately killing them like any other Gith would do. She's pretty loyal for a stranger and never threatens to betray or backstab you, she only perisist regarding the urgency of the tadpole issue. And as soon as you get to the Creche you realize that in comparison Lae'zel is basically a patron saint when compared to most Gith. Yeah she's often rude and mean-spirited, but clearly that culture is deeply embedded and in her, bur even still she demonstrates great bouts of progression and open-mindednss at times, even early on. But tbh I never disliked her. She was always honest and straightforward, and wayyy too poetic to hate. And time you ask her about the Gith culture she lights up and is so willing and proud to educate you. As far as the "meaness" was so over-bearingly abasive that you could tell she was over-compensating. And it was bc she was fecking terrified and be of ruthless Gith culture. But the more you stick with her you see the depth of her character. I wish more characters had the kind of arc and growth she does tbh.
@WritinRealSlow3 күн бұрын
You know, you're the second person to mention the "teethling" scene being what sold you on her. She's a good an complex character, but you do have to keep in mind that people have different levels of tolerance for mean characters, and some people just aren't willing to give a character a chance if they don't like them right away. Keep in mind, people play games to have fun, and some people just don't want to dig through a character's motivations to get to understand them because they don't find character analysis fun. I do, and that's why I'm making these companion videos, but I can't really blame someone who decides that they just don't like a character.
@Burberrydalive3 күн бұрын
@WritinRealSlow I mean...I didn't mean it literally lol. that's totally fair, even by tsundre metrics shes starts off as preeeeety mean so I get thst most people just won't bother. BUT a major part of tolerating said behavior does come down to looks. Sure Lae'zel is immediately off-putting, but I'd wager if she was a conventionally attractive half-elf like someone else, she'd be a lot more popular. It's part of why sooooo many people play the entire game thinking Shadowheart is some nice, sweet innocent Goth girl, when she is in fact manipulative self-righteous, selfish, conniving, cruel, petty, etc. Of course I'm not saying she's ONLY that, and to her credit shes MUCH BETTER at hiding her toxic trait than Lae'zel, but my points it, it's telling how more or less prone players are to validate a character's negative traits on the surface, based on how they look.

55:21 Bit of a tangent here, but while wanting to help out anyone who needs it is admirable, I REALLY didn’t like how this trait of Katara’s was portrayed as good in ‘The Painted Lady’ when Katara purposely delayed the Gaang in their endeavour to reach the invasion force on time in order to help out a town that while was in trouble, should not have been at the top of their priority list when they had a bloody INVASION to make on the Fire Nation itself! Like Sokka said, they didn’t have time to help out EVERY place they went to, but Katara acted like they did & that’s wrong when you’re willing to sabotage someone else’s hard work that could end up helping everybody. If you want my full opinion on Katara - just watch Shady Doorags Avatar video reviews, namely ‘Imprisoned’.

46:32 This actually is followed up on in the ‘Ruins of an Empire’ comic which deals with the process of the Earth Kingdom transitioning into a democracy (which nearly gets sabotaged when one of Kuvira’s former army force leaders tries to rig the first election in his favour in order to re-establish the Earth Empire) which makes Wu realise the process will take longer than he thought, so he decides to remain as an interim King until all the Earth Kingdom states elect official leaders.

I honestly don’t really agree with that Tenzin is a terrible teacher. I don’t think he’s perfect either, he surely has flaws, but the whole thing is that his way of teaching was very spiritual and that’s why Korra had trouble with it. She herself said in the first episode that she knew she had trouble with the spiritual side and that’s why she wanted to start air bending as quick as she could. The fact that Tenzin adjusts his training method to be closer to pro bending(something very opposite to spiritual), just means she doesn’t get to learn being spiritual here as well. Instead of her changing her mentality for the better and becoming more spiritual, its Tenzin who adjust himself to her needs meaning she never has to get out of her comfort zone and develop.
@WritinRealSlow26 күн бұрын
that is why I said he starts out as one. Keep in mind, he has the same trouble when teaching the new airbenders as well. Tenzin's idea of how things should be tends to conflict with how things are and that gets in the way of connecting with his students. He becomes a good teacher over time, but he definitely doesn't start that way.

Aang: I actually hated the conversation among Aang's children. It's not so much that he gave more attention to Tenzin but that he went on fun vacations without them. It's like going to Disney world with only one child. Throughout ATLA he is constantly trying to share his culture and get Sokka and Katara to join him in fun activities. Then they backpedal by saying Kya and Bumi never showed interest in the Nomad culture. So, does that mean they chose not to travel with him and that's why they missed out? Either they are being petty or Aang suddenly did a 180 in personality. Toph: I always understood Toph's conflict with her parents to be a lack of attention. She seemed hurt that they never took time to understand her interests and chose to keep her isolated from the world. In terms of career choice, she struck me more as a private security or Dojo master type of person. Su: I am not a big fan. Her apology seemed disingenuous. I have siblings and when you apologize there are no qualifiers, no clap back, and definitely no low blows like " and that's why you're single." It feels like she is only apologizing so she doesn't have to suffer Lin's ire anymore. Then Season 4 and the follow up comics lower my opinion even more. Varrick: I appreciate that someone else understands he is a total dirtbag. I never understood why anyone tolerates him. Katara: This ties into the Aang vacation thing, where was she when he excluded their children from life changing experiences? It feels like they forgot about her motherly nature. Motherly does not mean passive, there is reason the term Mama Bear exists. If Aang is excluding her children, she would have confronted him. If Korra's masters were isolating her, she would have fought to send her away. Korra could have spent time under Zuko's protection and learned about the Sun Warriors or hung out with the swampbenders and Toph.

This was I great video. I’m a spec and I really enjoyed learning about more representation in media. Also I’m not sure how to feel about the Alistor situation. On the one hand I think it’s ok for people to be attracted to him that’s just how attraction works. it’s the pushing that onto him and real life ace people and the lack of respect towards his identity that I have a problem with. Especially since the character seems to be repulsed by those activities. That level of invalidation wouldn’t be ok for other LGBT identities so why is it ok here? As for shipping, i think amatanormativity is really kicking peoples butts 😂. Doesn’t help that we’ve been socialized to see romantic love as the be all end all. Like it’s fine if you want him to have a close bond with someone but that bond doesn’t have to be romance or sexual in nature to be deep. At least to me, different forms of love aren’t inherently hierarchical. They exist on separate (and sometimes intersecting) lines with closeness being a separate axis. There are ways of giving him deep bonds with others without invalidating his identity. These are just my thoughts though.

This video was a beautiful journey. Some comments: >Not even Frieren noticed Serie's mana supression That's not stated or implied. From everything we've seen in the manga Frieren's ability to suppress and detect mana is superior to Fern's. >Friren killed all the demons who attacker her village We only know she killed Basalt. Other demons could have been killed by some of the other elves. >Lugner didn't look at Stark because he had no mana This is also purely speculation, albeit an interesting one. >Fern's group manages to capture a Stile faster than anyone else due to Fern stealth skills. It was luck as mentioned in the show. They happened to run into a nest not to mention Frieren had taught Fern the bird catching spell. Regarding if Frieren loves Himmel, I would say yes, but she is not fully aware of it yet. Just as during her journey to Aureole she will learn to love Fern, so in time will she realize she loved Himmel.

@@WritinRealSlow Her stealth was definitely a factor and they might not have done it without it (though they had Ubel's Sorganeil as well) but it was first and foremost a matter of luck, as Ubel pointed out.

I feel like the series goes out of it's way to make Marcille really struggle in the early episodes to balance out how she's basically overpowered compared to the rest of her party. She's the party's cannon AND their healer. The more minor setbacks they face are often fixed by one of Marcille's spells, like a water-walking spell for the lake or a light spell for dark spaces. Having her mess up in the earlier levels of dungeon due to her going overboard with everything she does makes sense for the narrative, when you consider how overwhelming her abilities are and how much of a perfectionist she is.

So you're saying her early suffering was a much-needed nerf?
@cindikhieu5628Ай бұрын
@@WritinRealSlow Yep. Otherwise, the go-to answer for any problem would be "let Marcille magic it away."

@@cindikhieu5628 I'll admit, that's an interesting interpretation

Yea the thing with itzumi having nipples was creepy. But in the moment i just chalked it up to being an anime and played for laughs. Trust me there are far more disturbing things ive seen on amime so this was not that bad. I did love the bath scene, it was soft and so gay lol
@WritinRealSlowАй бұрын
yeah, "it could be worse" isn't really a defense. I'm well aware of how bad anime can get, but even less problematic behavior should be called out.

Wow. I just finished a playthrough and karlach was the last person i romanced. Her story is heart breaking and her ending, if you make the right choices and did her romance can be so beautiful but depressing. You and her live on but stuck in hell. I legit teared up with her romance so many times, some from cuteness some from the gut wrenching fact that she could blow any day. The player loves her but they both know, unless she goes back to hell, it will end. This commentary and breakdown of karlach is perfectly done. You have earned a sub from me. Keep up the great work.

Thank you, that means a lot to hear ^_^

I’m a rape victim. I wondered why I related so much to Karlach when I met her. I romanced her and I cried so hard when she was on that dock. I’m happy to have a partner in real life, but god Karlach encapsulates so much of that pain, so much of that suffering. I love Larian for making characters like her and the rest of the cast. Also amazing video btw!

I'm so happy transmale representation has actually started to have a larger presence in trans representation as a whole. As you said in the beginning, transmasculine people are often overlooked when cishet creators want to throw in a trans storyline, and (perhaps as both a cause and effect) reflects transmasculine visibility in larger discussions. I hope this continues. On the other hand, I also hope the same goes for transfemme representation. Sure there is more of it, but is it actually....good. Because more focus has been put on transfemmes for longer, there is much more examples of horribly disrespectful depictions (and not true good rep). I'm glad that more genuine care is being put into trans rep, and transfeminine rep. I also love that there doesn't seem to be one stencil for the characters in this video. I do think some work could be done to diversify transfemme rep to add some more butches in the mix (not every trans woman is hyperfemme after all), but characters like Yamato who has tig ole anime bitties (and doesn't seem bothered by them) who are still men, and characters like Mettaton who are fem trans guys are very important to me as a trans guy who does enjoy expressing his femininity. I'm also super impressed at how many trans guys are also MLM in some way, especially with the first depiction (Coach beast) explicitly saying "I am a trans man, and I've always been attracted to men" in the same scene. Also side note, now that season 6 of the dragon prince has been released (also, spoilers for season 6 of the dragon prince) but another trans character has been introduced, and she has a smaller role, and her "I'm trans" dialogue is a little confusing, but it is present in her media that she is trans. Its also the gayest season yet. Anyway, I leave a long comment cause this was a delight of a video. Thank you!!

I'd have loved to add more butch transfemme rep, I just really couldn't find it. But I do agree we need more of it! And thank you so much for the comment, it makes me really happy to know that something I made resonated so well with you ^_^
