When youre just starting to make your way back down the hill, is that a lane to the right or just a footpath? Cheers
@BikeLuggerАй бұрын
If you mean the one at 18:33 - thats just a footpath. Only one drivable track over this particular hill.

Hi Bike lugger looking at your video at 8.23 you are seen on the road from Arncliffe to Kilnsey which kind got me rather puzzled when it is Ingleton to Hawes... presuming you got some footage mixed up while putting this video together... good video
@BikeLugger6 ай бұрын
Hi Megan! Well, I never said it was a direct route! In fact we usually try to fit as many lanes in as possible to make the day out more interesting which often involves some zigs and zags. Good eye to spot the road, but we did drive down there before heading back north through Starbotton. Cheers, Matt.

Hi Great video thanks for sharing. Do you think most of this could be done in a VW Crafter conversion? 4motion, lifted with a diff lock. Id love to get out there but not sure if my van is too high for the tunnels or wide for the tracks. 6m long 3m high. Thank you very much for any info you can give. Cheers Dave
@BikeLugger7 ай бұрын
Hi Dave, thanks for the feedback! Some of the loose bits on steep ground might cause issues, but I'd say a 4x4 Crafter would handle the traction and clearance side ok. However you would likely have issues with the size. It might fit through the tunnels, but some of the tracks have trees or rock faces hanging over and that's assuming you don't meet anyone coming the other way! There were quite a few times where I'd have the disco smeared up against a wall or with the wheels inches away from a drop trying to pass something. I certainly wouldn't want to deal with that in my own 6m (2.5m wide) transit. Having said that I think we did see some Sprinters on a track so you'd have to pick which ones you drove carefully. It's been that long now I couldn't advise which would be best sorry!

Sometimes I really wonder at the KZbin algorithm that this never came up in my home page. Love it. I don’t often use the parking brake but there’s a few spots here 😅 … yes I would. Amazing. Beautiful. Thanks for sharing. How did you find and navigate these trails Matt?
@BikeLugger9 ай бұрын
Yeah I made sure the parking brake was well serviced before I left! I’d been inspired by LRTime and one of their videos/visits. Subsequently bought a German guidebook they recommended on their channel (and spent quite a bit of time using google translate…) Some of the more interesting/challenging routes I actually found using an app and website called outdoor active. There are a load of community posted routes and you can pick what mode of transport you like from foot to 4x4. It’s handy as for a small fee you get topographical maps for most countries. I’d then ran the app through an iPad on the dash. The book was still very useful as it detailed opening times for the passes. Some are only open to 4x4s on certain days of the week. Plenty to see out there, we hope to get back at some point if the old Disco is up to it. Still need to get round to editing the last video from this trip!

Hi, I've never used Guru, is it a subscription based app? I've stopped using OS maps app, it was too slow at times and lacked some functionality. I've moved over to Outdooractive. Easier to use in a web browser, community uploaded routes that you can filter by activity (walking, biking, 4x4) and included in the subscription is topographic maps of europe (inc OS maps of the uk). Hope you had a good ride, how was the snow up there?
