A little late to the party I know, but I ended up here after looking for tyre prices for the wifes Jimny! 2013 plate, we've had it 6 years & apart from servicing this will be the first big spend needed. Relatively expensive road tax & not that good on fuel but we're not getting shut - the go to wheels when winter hits our part of the Yorkshire Dales. You boys had quite the run out, but got some stunning views.

Fantastic little cars - can't believe Suzuki have stopped making them. Fitted 'Jeko' snow chains and was able to climb a 1 in 6 hill that had a foot of snow on it. Only vehicle to make it that day - when we got back to the village pub, we were quite well received by all the usual 4X4 blokes. Would love one of the last of new ones (if I could only afford it!)

Unless they've seen them in action people underestimate them due to their diminutive stature. Took a friend on a day out some time ago to show him what they could do. He soon changed his view that they were just little 'Barbie Jeeps' kzbin.info/www/bejne/bafaZoJ3ntqorac Will be interesting to see the cost of the new commercial spec Jimny. Could be a good little offroader. I do miss the Jimny, but the Disco is quite a bit more comfortable on long drives.

I'm a new owner of a 2001 Jimny, I'm aware of transmission wind up when using the 4x4 system. Was the vehicle put into any of the 4 wheel drive modes whilst in the snow, I'm trying to gauge how long I can safely use it without causing damage to the car.

Hi Dan, Good choice getting a Jimny, they are a top little car. If there is a bit of slip on the road surface to relieve the pressure it's fine to put it in 4wd. Towards the end of the vid when I'm following the tractor I did keep it in 2wd for a while, just to see how far up the hill I could get. As soon as I started to lose momentum I just knocked it into 4wd. Otherwise it was in 4wd whenever there was snow on the road no problem. You'll get a feel for it once you're out and about, but as a rule - grass, mud, gravel, loose rocks, snow and ice are all fine for 4wd. Even being on grippy stuff is ok for a short distance if you're going in a straight line (maybe you want to tow someone out and you're on tarmac and want to be in low range). Cheers, Matt.

Incredible little vehicles. Torn between getting one or keeping my Peugeot 207 1.6 hdi turbo allure. Can't make my mind up!!

Peter Clarke Get one, keep the Peugeot if you can. They’re fairly cheap, though this time of year they can suffer from a winter price increase. Just check online for a list of things to look out for as there are a few rust points easily avoided if you know where to look.

@@BikeLugger thanks for your reply. Viewed 2 today. A manual and automatic. Still thinking about it. It would make sense to keep the Peugeot for longer journeys. Bit more comfortable as well.

Peter Clarke That’s fantastic, always worth taking a look around to gauge what you can get for your money. I viewed a few rough ones before I found this one as a private sale on Facebook. if you’re on Facebook join some Jimny groups. Usually some on there that have been modified for off-roading. Also lots of great ideas on there. Mines off to Iceland this summer for a bit of an adventure. Hopefully it survives!

Did u use 4x4 or kept in 2wd noticed sometime goes to tarmac would u get diff windup
@BikeLugger4 жыл бұрын
I was in 2wd for quite a while, certainly always on tarmac. It’s easy to just click a button and switch it on whilst on the move. Towards the end of the video before I catch up with the tractor I was in 2wd for as much as possible. As soon as progress slowed I flipped the switch. The Jimny certainly gets diff windup, not good to be in 4wd on anything grippy.

So many questions.... How did he coup a defender? What were those people doing up those roads in FWD cars? Obviously I don't know the area, but surely they would know it's going to be bad there? Great video, thinking of getting a wee Jimny as a winter vehicle as I've just got rid of my Subaru Outback and bought a Focus.... feeling a bit vulnerable now!
@BikeLugger4 жыл бұрын
Morning Bob. No idea on the defender! We suspected that they ended up sliding down the hill sideways and then clipped a wheel on the grass verge which gripped and momentum carried it over. Can’t really say what they were doing other than getting stuck! You’d think they’d know it would be like that, but there’s no accounting for some people. It’s a common road for the satnav to take people as a direct route north. By the time they approached the main climb they had already driven down a steeper section and were trapped (the top of the descent was where I towed the recovery truck, he decided not to get trapped in the dip). Some people like to just see what their car can do in the snow I guess. They now know the answer, not much! Get some ‘Snow Socks’ for your focus. Not as durable as chains for long term driving, but ten times easier to fit/remove and will get you out of a slippy situation and back to traction. Had a fwd Passat years ago that was unstoppable once I put them on. If you want a Jimny get one ASAP. As soon as we see snow or frosts the prices creep up! Enjoy. Matt.

@@BikeLugger What I'm going to try, as I've just got the Focus, I'll put Michelin Cross Climates on it. Had them on all 4 corners of the Subaru and it was like a tractor. The Focus grounds out going in and out my driveway depending on how I go, so think the snow depth would be an issue, before traction. Reason I'm looking at a Jimmy.... looks small enough to fit in my garage!
@BikeLugger4 жыл бұрын
@@BobMc87 Yeah it was the only thing I had that I could fit in my garage with the rest of my stuff. Winter tyres are a definite help, I change to a set of winter wheels on my Quattro A5 and the Mrs runs winter Nokians year round. Her Alfa has still got stuck on icy hills. Combination of fwd and her not being confident to give it the beans before the ice and slide about whilst on it. She ended up stopping and sliding back into a little ditch. I headed out and got it out with just the snow socks.

So, what are they like to drive on long journeys?
@BikeLugger4 жыл бұрын
Hi Peter, still not bought one?! They will sit at 70mph ok, but it's not the nicest place to be at that speed. I wouldn't use it for a long motorway commute thats for sure. I usually kept mine at 60 or so. On country roads they're perfect, less stressful/fatiguing than a bigger car because you can just point it through any narrow gap and go for it. I did some log days in mine and couldn't really complain. I did eventually swap the seats to some from a Mazda MX5, much nicer.
@nawazzaygham98524 жыл бұрын
the reason for not driving jimny at 70 mph is due to instability of vehicle, suspension or engine.
