TECHNICAL CONSIDERATIONS ABRSM’s recommended tempo for this piece is 132 crotchet beats per minute, which keeps the piece moving along at a lively pace. The opening section of this piece begins in a light and playful manner, so it is important keep the left-hand crotchet chords nice and short, and only play them for their actual value. With this in mind, be sure to observe the rests. The right-hand part must sound effortless, so slower practice may be required in order to fully get control of the broken chord-like patterns of the melody before attempting to play at the desired tempo. This piece is mostly to be played legato, but watch out for the occasional staccatissimo wedges (very detached) for example, in bar7. Contrasting dynamics appear regularly, as does a temporary key-change in bar 45, during the minor section. On reaching bar 68, return to the beginning and play through until bar 44. (fine) No other repeats are required in the exam.

The last note. The last note brings back of flood of emotions and memories. On the floor, watching the tube. Close to bedtime. Life could never be better than when you’re 7-8 years old.

As a 5-year-old in 1978, i LOVED this show! But, at the same time...i always felt so bad for David at the end of the episode. Sadly having to move on with NO friends at all! And nobody willing to give a nice guy a ride or anything. Somehow, I could relate to him in that...from then, even until now. Truth be told...we ALL could relate to that to some degree, yeah?
