At 18:10 did you fill the void with expanding foam?
@FishingWithHoang
@FishingWithHoang 11 күн бұрын
@@BlueLinerMedia Yes. I had a little bit of left over foam so I filled it in that front bow area. About 1/4 ways back, I used thin strips of marine plywood to fill with thickened epoxy. Then I added a couple layers of thickened epoxy to seal it all up and glassed over.

Hey man, awesome job! Did you use gel coat for your finish or some sort of paint? Also was the faring compound epoxy or poly based? What was the “primer coat”? Thanks
@FishingWithHoang
@FishingWithHoang Ай бұрын
@@BlueLinerMedia These boats are built with Epoxy. So Gel coat isnt used. 1 part or 2 part polyurethane paint is what everyone is using. Fairing is also epoxy based. Not sure what you mean about primer coat. I started with a few layers of high build primer with sanding in between to fet all the imperfections out of the fairing. Then final coat of primer, sand and paint.

I have my 16 ft. Side console aluminum on a very similar trailer. If you are always bumping the middle cross member when loading……a cheap fix was to put one of those screw in trailer bumpers on it. Worked like a charm….no scrapes in the keel.

Would you consider this boat to be a relatively dry ride in a chop? Also, have you noticed any floor or decks creaking as you walk around (my friends excel bay creaks as you walk & sounds cheap/makes noise)
@FishingWithHoang

This is my buddy's boat. I don't remember getting any spray on us when we were going full speed out the jetties catching air. If the conditions are windy, I would say, you may get incoming spray from the wind just like any other boat. But conclusion, it's a dry ride for sure. I don't ever remember hearing any creaking when we walked the deck or the floor. It's actually a pretty damn quiet hull.

A while back, I emailed McClain and they gave me the hub specs. But it's a standard spindle, 1-1/16". So any aftermarket bearings and seal kits should work. Make sure you measure your spindle diameter. I ordered the wrong rear seal size and had grease all over the rear of the hub. 🤣

@FishingWithHoang
@FishingWithHoang Жыл бұрын
Thank You! 600+ hours was hours of building a boat for the first time. I bet 2nd time around I could cut that in half. I spent around $10k on the whole rig. Trailer and everything. Minus the electronics. That was 2019 prices though. A commercial built 15 foot skiff is around $28k. Yes it was worth all the hours spent on building one and also its a perk of having a home built boat built to your own specs.

It's fun to build your own boat. I probably would have beefed up the tow point on the bow and the bow stem in general for that size boat (well actually I did on my boat). But then I've seen a skiff with a sturdy bow stem get the entire bow section jerked off before so actually a break away point might not be the worst idea 😅
@FishingWithHoang
@FishingWithHoang Жыл бұрын
They're are as beef as I could get them. The bow eye has quite a few layers of glass on the inside of the hull. The outside has 2 layers of 1208 glass along the keel. The stern eyes have backing plates on the inside of the hull. I think the area that takes the most beating is the Power Pole mount which has backing plate inside of the hull too. Everything is glassed. Going on 3+ years and I sure hope nothing gets ripped apart!
