Dodger fan here. Found this when I Googled "Mets vs Dodgers preview". Not to be condescending but, WOW, you guys really know your baseball. I especially liked when Ashley pointed out (ahead of time) that starting Senga was too big a risk of exposing too much of the bullpen for too many innings too early in the series. That's the kind of stuff I listen to Hershiser, Darling, Smoltz and P Martinez for. I will be back to your station for the rest of the series. And while I can't root for the Mets while they are playing the Dodgers, if the Dodgers get knocked out of the playoffs, I always pull for the National League team in the WS (exception: Padres) and would enjoy coming back to listen to you two. @SergeantPepper2 ай бұрын
Dodger fan here. Just discovered the podcast. Love the smart and fair analysis from the other side! 👍 FYI, the upper deck seats have to be empty because the city of LA limits the number of fans in the stadium. Back in the 2000s, the Dodgers added more seats at the field level so those upper deck seats will stay empty until the city lets them expand the limit. But now with the A's out of Oakland, Dodger Stadium is now the largest stadium in the MLB so there isn't a big push to add more people.

As someone who ended their baseball career of 18 years recently, and is a Dodger fan, YOU GUYS KILLED THIS ANALYSIS! Your in-depth breakdown and attention to detail of the game was on point. My one question I have is, after the Mets looked undisciplined and for lack of better terms lost at the plate, how would they respond to a Dodger bullpen that is arguably the most electric and potent in baseball? I will 100% be back tomorrow for your analysis of game 2!!!!!!!
@AbitoFarip2 ай бұрын
It’s literally one game. It’s baseball. You-after 18 years (whatever that means)-should know that teams can look amazing one day, then appear dead the next; and vice versa. E.g. The Padres having a commanding 2-1 series lead, then not scoring again and losing in 5.
@AbitoFarip2 ай бұрын
The Mets could score 14 runs in Game 2, and win 14-2. Or, they could lose 10-0 and get no-hit. Besides, the Dodgers’ bullpen is arguably less electric than that of the Padres and Phillies. And, well, you know how they’re both doing now.
@kayfolson3782 ай бұрын
@@AbitoFarip You think the Dodger's bullpen is less electric than Padres or Phillies? I disagree. Dodgers bullpen is unreal. It's their golden bullet. I guess we will see tomorrow.

@MELTEDoCOM2 ай бұрын
@@AbitoFarip well the Phillies bullpen posted an 11+ era in the NLDS so regardless of how good they were in the regular season, they were the exact opposite of electric in the postseason. Also, starting pitching has been the achilles heel in the Dodgers losses so you may say that a bullpen game would be worse for whoever they are playing.

I checked into this matchup thinking the Mets had the higher potential for pitching power considering the fact that the Dodgers had 8-9 Pitchers in their Injury list (i think 3 pitchers even got injured during Padres series) but that doesnt really mean the remaining Pitchers for their team are Chumps considering they just shutout Padres game 4 and 5 and have the Momentum. Mets Hitters just didnt show up! i think both teams went into this NLCS in different mindsets~ the Dodgers offense and defense showed up, their bullpen management has been stellar.

First, this is a solid podcast. Just meat and potatoes. The Mets will have to to keep runners off base ahead of Ohtani and get to the LAD staff. 33 scoreless isn't a fluke. The LA Dodgers have led attendance in baseball, and have set the yearly attendance records literally since the 1970s. They were the first franchise to reach two million, three million per year....etc in attendance, even in down years. Some of the seats you see empty in the upper deck at the beginning of the game is a result of the traffic nightmare surrounding Dodger Stadium. Don't sell the Dodger fan short. Dodger fans are as passionate about their team as any fan in baseball. Remember the huge parade of Dodger fans that walked into Yankee Stadium a few months ago. That's passion for their team 3000 miles from home. Loved your analysis ladies, but remember, the Dodgers are a Sean Manaea killer. He's never pitched well against the Dodgers. We'll see what happens today. Thanks ladies for your input.

Hearing the broadcast talk about the Dodgers lack of lefty pitching with Vesia out, not once did they mention that it will seem to not matter all that much with a Mets lineup of at least 6 righties flailing at the low out side breaker. That home plate ump sure didn't help the matter tonight, had a crazy low zone that only benefitted Flaherty's breakers. Vientos's swinging K on the low outside breaker was an obvious reaction to the previous one he let go being called a strike. HP ump f'd tonight. Pretty sure this was the first game this post season where the HP ump was clearly atrocious with the zone.

Perfect game for Ottavino to pitch a few innings. Further proof that you don't short your bullpen in a 7 inning series, especially beginning it with and opener. Don’t get me wrong, getting ahead is great. Senga unfortunately has a process and would find it very difficult to come out of the bullpen without many innings notice which is not how it works. I heard a reasonable idea of starting Senga game 2 so they could line up the bullpen better behind him. Mets lost their mojo tonight, hope they get it back tomorrow, did not seem to be enjoying themselves as they need to relax and have better at bats. Bullpen is now behind and the problem could be compounded with 3 games in a row in NY when you might really need them. They will all say they are ok to go, but we saw in the NLDS that the Phillips relievers were tired in games 3 and 4 and did not pitch up to their potential. Very worried about the hitting though, as you say winning game 2 now becomes a must. Everything crossed for tomorrow. LFGM. Michael from UK via Alabama.

Tip of the cap to Wenskoski for not coming in limp after watching a game I imagine left most of the Mets fans near lifeless after nine innings. She didn't leave any meat on the bone on the Senga decision. It definitely wasn't the game I was hoping for that would keep both fan bases squirming through 54 outs. Last rites on the game were performed by Winker. Not sure how "Shake It Off" never become a sports anthem for teams that had a loss like this. But yeah, need some of that. A "must win" does seem like a apt description of game two. Any kind of Mets win tomorrow would be a tonic for the series. I don't want to hear Croston doing an unlicensed therapy session in the next episode.

Clapping the Mets after the first inning. Not much standing needed.

You guys had a horrible game but its out of 7. Obviously I want us to win but its not over yet. I still think we’ll beat you guys 4-2. Here’s hoping.

I don’t think it really mattered who the Mets sent out to pitch, bottom line they did not score a run. You need at least 1 run to win a game and they didn’t even do that

When you mention their bullpen being gassed… Danny Young is obviously just a mop up guy; and, frankly, so is Butto now too, unfortunately. Clearly, Buttó is no longer in Mendy’s circle of trust after his recent struggles. So thankfully they didn’t use high leverage guys at least (Except for DP, but he was going to piggyback with Senga all along).

remember this is best team in baseball what else can you expect. You have to come ready if you don't no chance.

A pitcher doesn’t just forget how to throw strikes. A pitcher doesn’t all of a sudden start throwing every pitch in the dirt or a foot outside the strike zone… MLB and the networks want an Ohtani/Judge World Series, did someone from Manfred’s office come in to the Mets clubhouse and say “lose or else?”

Senga should not even have been on the post season roster. The qay he imploded last night is all the proof I need

Too early to know what this means. Senga forced himself into the game with bad mechanics that he has not been able to correct or he would have been able to start earlier during the season. They were due a stinker the question is the Dodgers don’t even have a starter today. They have to pounce.
