Just my luck! It rained for 3/4 days straight but it is such a beautiful city! I am sure that you would love it! It was really interesting to see how such a popular city deals with a growing population, urban sprawl, and the need to make more greenspace. I explore that in the next part. I know you'll find it fascinating Next time you're in Europe, you should definitely add Barcelona to your list :)

Oh! Did you say you will be going to China? A friend just got back from there. She said there is a building like the Milan Verticale there but it is NOT working out. Why? The Chinese failed to maintain the plants. Goes to show, you can’t just simply copy, you have to do the work too!

Hi Kay.. yes, I arrived. Some of the things I have seen here are spectacular! Every park, greenspace has been immaculate, so it's a shock to hear that building didn't work. Do you know where it was?

How wild was that skyscraper? It blew my mind. My understanding though, is that it only benefits the wealthy as they are the only ones who can afford to live there.

I personally think the people of Barcelona (or Amsterdam or Venice) are not that concerned about eco-tourism. And most people come to these cities for the old buildings, musea etc. It is this mass tourism that causes a lot of problems (housing, traffic, drunk people in the night). For me eco-tourism is something like cruise ships of to Greenland to see the last iceberg melting away.
@CloudGardenerUK
@CloudGardenerUK 24 күн бұрын
@Knit333 i was there for about 20 days.. after my first week.. even I was getting annoyed at some of the disrespectful drunk tourists. It's such an amazing city with so much to see. You can understand why tourists flock there & how the large volume of tourists affects the housing market or prices in general. In this episode, ecotourism was the heavy landscaping of Montjuic, the lost plant/forna species vs the money generated by the tourism on the mountain. Cities that don't have a lot of space, have to make some really tough choices. In the next episode, I'll be showcasing some of the steps they have taken to make the city greener :)

When you are not doing eco stuff, try to go to Montserrat -lots of greenery on the way up. You can get a tour bus at the bus station behind Arc Triumph train station.

Ecotourism is a double-edged sword. It's great for generating cash, jobs & investment but if it's not properly regulated, it can have a real impact on your residents. Don't forget to like the video & let me know your thoughts ❤

I love my red and green Malabar spinach. Yours are beautiful. Have you tried Sissoo spinach yet? It's incredible, perennial and loves extreme heat and doesn't bolt. You take cuttings to reproduce or left to themselves they'll spead by the roots and produce a ground cover dull of spinach. Probably the best tasting spinach I've e er had. Hope you look into it, you'll live it as well. 💜 Happy growing 💜

Thank you so much , Jason, for your inspirational and aspirational videos! It's fascinating to see how green spaces are tackled around the world and I'm looking forward to your up coming travels. I have one question, for the streetside, pocket green spaces at the beginning of this video, do you know if they are managed by the city or by volunteers?
@CloudGardenerUK
@CloudGardenerUK Ай бұрын
I am so glad that you found the video interesting. The road start planting is completely managed by the local government as part of their 2030 sustainability plan! The biggest complaint for locals was that there wasn't a lot of gardening initiatives.. which makes the hospital garden in the previous episode even more powerful! ❤️

Thank you for watching! ❤️ I wrestled with this.. profit profit profit of course 😵‍💫🤣 but if they create some greenspace that the locals can use instead of a huge concrete complex.. it's better than nothing. Surprisingly, this was the second busiest park I visited in Milan. There were play parks, tennis courts etc all in use. So although I felt it would be greenwashy before arrival.. once I was there & witnessed how it was used by the locals. I decided to include it as part of my data for further research :)
