I designed seven small space gardens for the RHS Urban show. The flower show was the first ever indoor flower show and the first show dedicated to urban gardening
RHS City Spaces: Cloudscape aims to answer one single question.
How can we make our towns and cities greener?
Cloudscape is a new and ambitious concept designed for the RHS Urban Show by multi award-winning garden designer, Jason Williams (aka 'The Cloud Gardener'). My 18th floor balcony garden in Manchester gained a large social media following during the lockdowns of 2020 - he has since used his platform to communicate the benefits of urban gardening to biodiversity, wildlife and mental health.
This film follows Jason as he prepares his centrepiece show gardens for the Royal Horticultural Society's inaugural Urban Show. Working alongside like-minded collaborators to create seven different garden design concepts, Jason considers the challenges that regularly face urban gardens. From growing in containers, sun and shade to renting and budget restrictions. Seven separate stories all intertwine into one.

The garden was contructed by The Landscape Academy. Special thanks to Mark, Lynne & Callum for helping to bring the project together.
Lastly, a massive thabk you to Liz & Andy from Plant Mcr who worked tirelessly to bring the gardens together. They actively work with their developer engaging their local community to use the greenspace in the development to garden.

This documentary not only gives a little perspective to what goes into exhibiting at a show, but it also shows the thoughts behind the concept. I set out to answer one question. How do we make our towns & cities greener? For me, it's about involving young people, engaging with horticultural retailers, developers & local authorities so that all parties benefit. What's next? Check out this video to find out how I plan to implement these ideas nationwide: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pXimdKB5nqmWqsk

Special thanks to the team of students. Not a single one of them study horticulture but are passionate about making our cities greener. They volunteered their own time to the project and had lessons with me each week for 2 months. They give me hope for the future!

Jason, watching your gardening journey has been incredibly inspirational. I'm writing in from Vancouver, British Columbia and my neighbourhood is currently going through a transformation from houses and low-rise apartments to 20 story glass towers. The loss of green spaces and street trees is very concerning to myself and my neighbours. Seeing how you advocate for urban greening and balcony gardens and the resources you create is so important and you are truly one of my heroes. Much love!

Feel free to pass on any of the information you get from my videos to help in your area too ❤ In my previous video sharing my new opportunity , I spoke about my research trip. I'm not just searching for answers to help Manchester. It is for all of us who live in the city, so once I have finished and consolidated my research, I would be happy to travel to you and meet your local leaders! ❤ I will mention that in my follow-up video later this week ❤️

I have much gratitude for the commitment and dedication of all involved in this project. I totally relate with your desire for your work to be a living "legacy." I am often approached for projects but struggle with the 'we did a thing' concept. It is truly inspiring to see the level of investment of the collective minds that got you and your needs. Best to you always in all your endeavors. It goes without saying, but you are a legacy builder. Journey on sunflower 🌻. I am here for it!

The font employed for the video chapter titles is giving OG graffiti tag! (BTW I feel like Asics could be a good fit for future driving sneakers, they have shoes named after clouds ☁️!!!! Nimbus and Cumulus !)

@@CloudGardenerUK they are originally based in Japan but are global now! I wear them for running - some of the technical shoes are quite expensive but they have reasonable models and the older styles go on sale when they release a new version!
