A couple of times per week should be ok :) Not too much, because too many greens can cause liquid droppings. And the more different plants, the better, so you can also give other herbs, vegetables, and grass. Dandelion is also very healthy for instance.

Hello I have 4 buggies but they don't like to take a bath. If I place a water source in the cage they don't even go there to enjoy it. What I need to do according to you in my place it's too hot but they don't like to put water on them.
@misty_blueКүн бұрын
There are three things that have worked for me: - Install a bath permanently so they can use it whenever they want - Hang wet greens in their cage. They will use the wet greens to wash themselves - Spray a mist spray near them. Some will like going into the mist spray because it’s like rain to them

How many leaves of Presley/ cilantro/dill can I give my birds per week?? :) it helps me bathe them because they won’t go into the water unless there is some sort of plant.
@misty_blue2 күн бұрын
I heard they can be a bit sensitive to cilantro, but I didn’t see issues with parsley and dill. I think when you offer them a diverse range of plants you can give a bit daily. You can also try wild grass, carrot greens, mint, and fennel for instance. If you do notice that their droppings become watery, you might wanna give them a rest day from greens :)

You might encourage them to breed before they’re ready for it. Which can cause them to have problems with forming eggs or their chicks might have health issues. Some budgies also abandon their chicks when they’re not ready for breeding.

No problem :) What does the cere above their beaks look like? Sometimes you can estimate their age through that. And the first 9-12 months they usually have bigger eyes and then they get smaller.
@Thebeanskin0810 күн бұрын
@@misty_blue one cere is like a brownish tone one is like whitest blue. The eyes are kinda smallish
@misty_blue9 күн бұрын
Brownish means that the female is in a breeding phase, so she's at least 8 months old I think :) Whitest blue is usually with younger males. When males reach adulthood, their cere will become a darker blue and in their breeding phase it's especially dark blue.

¿How do i know when i have to hand-feed the baby budgies? Great video and very informative
@misty_blue19 күн бұрын
It’s only in emergencies when you notice the parents are not feeding their chicks. Either not at all or not enough. You can observe them and see if they take care of their babies. If it looks like the babies don’t get enough, you can hand feed them a bit to supplement what the parents give them. If the parents reject the chicks, you can take over with hand feeding. But I would only do it if there’s no other option. It’s a time consuming job and the chicks grow up most healthy when their parents feed them.

Hmm… that’s very interesting behaviour indeed 🤔 Maybe he’s got too many hormones or he’s feeling bored… maybe you can give him things (or attention) to give him more mental stimulation. Budgies need to be entertained daily because they have very active brains. Perhaps it would help him if he has chew toys or foraging toys. Or wood and plants to chew, like wild grass. Anything to keep him busy 😊

Great video. I watched from start to end. I have two male budgies for about six months so I will see if this technique helps with making them less scared. They are not tame but that is also my fault since I have made any consistent training. They do the same thing where they just sit from above looking down at me most of the time. I may have made bad habits for them already since I play budgie sounds for them all day and I leave their millet out for them for them to eat.
@misty_blue24 күн бұрын
Haha yeah that sounds like me for many years 😅 But there’s always a chance for change. They’re definitely stubborn but I noticed they have already become less scared of me just because I come almost every morning to interact with them. I don’t know if I can still tame them 100% but I’ll try anyway 😋 I did read that it’s possible to even train older budgies. It just takes more time and effort.

After watching your video, I was wondering how long I should wait before allowing my new budgie to fly freely?
@misty_blueАй бұрын
The general recommendation is 2 weeks. Like that they can first get comfortable with their cage (which is their main territory) and they know they always have a safe space to go to when they’re having free flight :) It’s tempting to wait less time but there’s a risk that they get very scared and get traumatised. Generally, you can observe your birds day by day and see if they look comfortable (when they sing/chirp, preen themselves, and freely move around in their cage those are all good signs) enough to take the next step of leaving their cage.

It depends on the size of the gaps, but budgies can fit through almost any hole, so it’s quite likely that they escape. What you could do is temporarily cover those gaps when your birds are flying around freely, if it’s not dangerous of course.

It's good for potential and /or new budgie owners to consider these tips and facts as it can help you decide whether or not you are able to afford having and caring for budgies prior to purchasing one or more. My bird hangs on the side of cage like hes stressed he also runs there if anything happens because its his safe spot wat do i do?
@misty_blue2 ай бұрын
You can try to focus on making your bird feel more and more at home (safe) with several methods :) For instance, try copying his body language (winking with both eyes, turning your head to the side) to give him the idea that you’re like him and not a dangerous predator; speak to him in a calm cheerful voice to make him feel more relaxed; give him things to distract him like chew and foraging toys. Other than that, budgies often need a lot of time to get used to their territory (sometimes even years), so time and patience are also important. In short, the more their environment reflects the environment in the wild, which helps them connect to their nature, the more they should feel at ease. You can also try to bond with your bird by starting to train/tame him. Like that he sees you as his friend instead of as a threat. Oh yeah, greens like (wild) grass and fresh herbs usually help our birds a lot to relax as well. It makes them feel like they are in nature I guess.

My budgie is making nest is it sign of pregnent?? Or normal??
@misty_blue2 ай бұрын
Most female budgies will have nesting behavior like that. It's usually because of hormonal changes. Many of them are not even "pregnant" (they don't carry any eggs) but they are just preparing in case they will lay eggs at some point. It's definitely normal for female budgies to behave like that, it's just their nature. But she might not lay eggs. And if she lays eggs, the eggs will not have chicks unless there is a male that fertilized the eggs. You can keep an eye on what your budgie does. It takes around two days for them to form and lay eggs. So if she has an egg, you will find out soon. But we've had several budgies that were preparing a nest without ever laying eggs. Let me know how it goes! :)
