If you are running high power you need to keep in mind that this system offers zero second harmonic suppression. If your amp has a pi network, instead of pi-L network, you will likely be transmitting a readable signal on your second harmonic.

No contest. Had a hexbeam destroyed by hurricane Milton, and a over 50 year old technology Hustler 6BTV that survived the high winds and like a Timex it kept its match and I was able to message out hurricanewatchnet with my post hurrican report. Although I am rather dissappointed with the vertical, (with no gain) it still stands for its ability for high power capability. Restricted space is this vertical's attraction, but without a full set of underground radials the best I could do was a certain height above ground and some counterpoises set for 80m. Research reveals 2db gain can be acheived only if you buy into the ground radial package (more $). I am in the process of planning to replace this antenna with a high power cobb-web configuration where at least I have some control of height hopefully mitigating damage that I previously experienced on an adjustable Rohn mast instead of a tower.

73 DE BD3OLH。

You have described the transformer, but not the wire length for the antenna and whether a coil must be used. Because a HyEndfed has a total length of 22.74m. The first 20.35m come after the transformer, then a 110µH coil and then the last 2.39m, where the SWR is adjusted by shortening or lengthening the 80m band. What is the length of your antenna wire and does it also have a coil? TThe Antenna goes from 80-10m.
@MM0OPXFieldRadio4 күн бұрын
My installation is different. I run a variable length EFHW so its effectively always a monoband.
@andreneumann47884 күн бұрын
@@MM0OPXFieldRadio Well, then it's not really an EFHW, because that's what makes it special, that it can be used on several bands. Because for a monoband, I prepare my antenna length for the band with a good standing wave, add a cladding wave blocker and that's it. Have you tried your design with a length of 22.75m and a 110µH coil to see what the result is? Because that would be interesting to see which bands you can get to run.

Hi. I had a wellbrook ALA1530 loop for many years until it failed. The amplifier is potted and not really repairable. Wellbrook wanted £100 for a new one. I decided to make my own two transistor balanced amplifier with 2N3866 transistors from the GQRP club, mine actually predates the Wellgood copy of the Wellbrook, I've made a couple using 15mm copper pipe to give a 1 meter loop. This massively reduces my noise floor, I also made my own bias T and relay switching to switch between my TX antennas to the RX loop, which is good from Long wave to 6 meters

Couple of points. 1 -The owner of Wellbrook sadly passed away last year. 2 - you cannot buy a new Wellbrook anymore. 3 - the WellGood V3 has been compared to the Wellbrook side simultaneously with the WellGood marginally better but not statistically better. I'm not going to get into semantics. Yes its been reverse engineered but improved upon slightly. What do you suggest? I'm not getting involved in the politics. Great video thank you. Can I make a couple of observations. When you cut the lugs off of the inside of a box or the lip on the bias tee box, use a sharp wood chisel instead of the knife. TBH I was cringing and expecting to see a spurt of the red stuff. Also the point geometry on those step drills is not very good and I find it far easier to start the hole using a standard drill. And finally I put a mark with a sharpie pen on the step above where I want to drill when I use a step drill. It saves a lot of guess work. Good luck and have fun.
@MM0OPXFieldRadio8 күн бұрын
Normally I would use a pilot drill but there wasn't huge accuracy needed here. On metal I use a spring loaded centre punch and pilot drill. Maybe the camera angle but there was little risk if me cutting myself. If the blade slipped it was only catching the side of the enclosure. If your not experienced I totally agree.
