If the cat or kid pulls out a lot it is easier to roll paper back if hanging under. I choose under as I break less off.

Ofcourse you take your shoes off in your house, it is a house not a shed, I think it is disrespectful to go in someone's house stepping inside that house with your shoes fill of germs from the streets you've been all day

It takes me days to fill the dishwasher so that I can wash and sanitize the load, so I rinse my dishes before loading so the food won't stink after sitting for a few days, and so the machine will be able to clean better. I run the dishwasher twice a week. If I used the dishwasher each day, maybe I would rinse less.

This was hilarious! I'm toilet paper under at home because I think in tears better and you use less but toilet paper over is a little prettier. No shoes in the house for me. I wear slippers. I don't ask people to take their shoes off. I never lived anywhere that had a dishwasher. I put my half worn clothes on hooks on the back of the door. I like using a line but it's winter half the year in Niagara Falls area so I usually use the dryer😅 I decant very few things. Most cups are facing up. Tupperware lids off Bed aired out I iron but in the same style as Leslie

Glasses, cups, and mugs I store with the rims up because I think I might chip the rim placing them down. I also think those items are more stable with the bottoms on the bottom. Imagine naming something the base or bottom and then putting that part on the top. Crazy. Am I right?!

I've almost never had a dishwasher or used one, and my father taught me to rinse dishes after eating, so food won't stick and doing dishes by hand will be easier later! He calls it "bachelor's dishes"!!! It doesn't have to be hot water.

I always put glasses down on a piece of paper towel = in my mind, some air flow if still damp from dishwasher & no dust, etc . Dust & other tiny fruit flies can get inside cabinets. Maybe this is just a paranoia of mind.. but that's my reasoning. .. No lids, I don't like them being airtight storing nothing, especially if damp from dishwasher.

Before I sold my house ,I was pretty exacting about it being 'over' .. after selling my home, living a few months w/ family until I got my studio, I guess I just forgot about it, bc I don't even think about it anymore. .. always rinse -- no matter if high-end dishwasher, top of the line detergent = never fully clean. Now it is in my brain... Good tips to ck in dishwasher for better efficiency. ..no shoes, except for indoor exercise shoes. .. Americans typically don't, but after living abroad for 2 yrs, this became a habit. Then my home had white carpet in many rms. That carpet along w/some peroxide stayed almost brand new looking in most rooms until I sold.

@@declutterhub On this one I am as passionate as Ingrid! No way the paper should touch the wall! But I have to say to hear Lesleys cool way to respond to that and just not care about such "minor" things made it easier for me to understand that there still are toilet rolls "the wrong way"... and yes if it is possible I change them as well.😉😃

This was an excellent conversation, and the topics can apply to anyone. I have worked a lot on de powering the inner critic and being my own best friend. The strategy Zoe shared is similar to the one I use that I learned in Rick Hanson's book "Buddha's Brain". To remember or even just imagine an "antidote" to the negative thought is SO powerful. The more I do, the more joyful my life has become and the more successful I have been in many areas of life. I am going to get Zoe's book and look forward to recommending it to clients, friends, and family.

Very relevant to me because I don't want things to go in landfill so it ends up stuck in my house... some items like old phones need research so that can be a roadblock for me and final one is, I don't drive so getting things to specific places can be hard.

How to responsibly recycle: cassette tapes, VHS tapes and old computer/laptops. No one wants them. Some places advertise that you can send them the VHS or Cassette tapes and they will "responsibly" dispose of them, but you have to pay money for the service. Suppository, you have to drill holes in your old laptops so no one can steal your banking information. The stuff is piling up, and I don't want to just chuck them in the landfill and be done with it.

I see You Tube videos with people taking their clothes off hangers from their closets and theowing them in a heap into a garbage bag and this seems like a terrible presentation and a bad idea on general. If I can't leave them on hangers, can I at least fold them and put them into a nice box? Something I heard about donating is: would you rather have the stuff or the space?

This has motivated me to get a charity shop run done this weekend as I have been putting it off. Also for those in the UK it might be worth checking your local council website, as my local council will collect textiles and small electrical items when they collect my general rubbish/recycling. I find the textiles collection really useful for clothes are no longer wearable and wont be taken by my local charity shops.

That's interesting about the alcohol free thing. I never drank a lot , 2-4 drinks a week, but ever since covid made a genetic condition symptomatic in 2022 I have had only 2-3 drinks a YEAR and while I do miss it a little sometimes , it just makes my life easier not to have alcohol because the fatigue from my illness is so bad I can't enjoy it the same. Also no more fast food and very very little processed food because of the migraines.

This is very interesting and important to look at. I would imagine that one, like Jo, has to be very emotionally intelligent to do this job; if someone kept refocusing on the positives it would not necessarily work for me as I would want to mourn what I am losing especially in a first instance. Realising that we should have what fits in a space is a difficult concept, even when not downsizing...
