Great video and review, what brought me here, my wife found this set in an antique dealer and bought it for me, sadly it’s not in the great condition yours is in but the bones of it are there, I’ve no outer sleeve, and the part of the styrene packaging that held the track is gone alone with the track, one coach is missing its trucks and the engines buffers are awol, but there is lots of bonus dust, Transformer seems different than yours, mine had a model date of 1973, So my task for the future is to track and track the missing bits, helped greatly by your knowledge gained from this video, Whatever happened Lima? I got a nice set back in the mid 80’s for Xmas, a Lima SNCF electric loco with two coaches and a car transporter, 4 red cars and a car loading ramp thing, that was back when I was 7-8yrs old About 15 yrs ago I got back into the hobby kind of, I’d been collecting 1/50 diecast construction equipment and heavy haulage trucks and seen some American 1/48 O scale trains, figuring these would add to little dioramas and layouts etc I made the jump, I need to find or creat an Irish O scale engine now

Thanks for sharing. You'll still find spare coaches for these on ebay and other auction sites, and at reasonable prices. Given the age, it must a H0 scale set. The coaches are based on UK MK2 coaches so the bogies will be interchangeable. Replacement track will be challenging but standard Hornby 00 gauge track will work just fine. Hornby acquired LIMA after they got into trouble. Hornby are still using LIMA 00 scale moulds for many of their Railroad models.

Nice model from Accurascale and the quality is better than the Hattons model was. So well done to them for improving on the tooling they bought from Hattons for the Class 66. I am very much looking forward to getting some of the Accurascale Class 60 models in 2025 as well after cancelling my pre-order of the Cavalex Models examples. I am so glad that Accurascale are doing a Class 60 as I was let down by the Class 56 by Cavalex Models back in January and I even got muted on their section on RMWeb because I called out the quality issues because my model had a jammed gear tower. I won't buy anymore of their models if that is how I am going to be treated on RMWeb and I have a right to call out a bad model and I can handle the backlash too. The silver lining for me is that I have learned my lessons as I now do O Gauge and I have a couple of Class 60's and they are fantastic models. I have a micro O Gauge layout that is Hermes Road that I started this month when I became 44 earlier in the month. As for OO Gauge, Accurascale has always respected me as their customer and I will always support them as a loyal customer. 2025 is going to be another great year for model trains and will likely be when I make a new OO Gauge modern era layout too, so I will like bag a couple of these Class 66's as well once I have relocated to the US.

Great video , I did see one model shop offering to swap out the none driven bogie car with a driven bogie set , to allow a greater train length to be pulled , could be a good alternative , you may need to change the coupling type on the original replacement boogie , I thought that was a good idea , but spare parts seem difficult to obtain, even traction tyres are out of stock at present.

@EuviRail
@EuviRail 16 күн бұрын
Attempt a normal decoder reset by writing 8 to CV8. If you have a power pack fitted, you also need to take 60-90 secs when resetting during the programming process to reset properly. Failing that you need to reset the decoder from a Bluetooth perspective - remember that email you got with the reset code? This will unlink the decoder so you will have to find it and link to it again. If after all this the decoder doesn't work I'd get on to Hornby for help and potentially a warranty replacement.

Fully agree with your review. I have 6 of them with sound and yes they run beautifully out of the box and the livery application across each one is deep & expertly applied and the detail is something else. Only downsides so far is the sound vibration thru the body but mainly on the plastic exhaust on the removal roof panel as I think it is slightly loose causing the buzzing sound, the other one is the cab end handrails haven't been glued on properly by the factory which is evident on all 6 loco's of mine and on nearly every Class 66 I've seen on social media thus that needs to be nipped in the bud by Accurascale. Refine it a bit more in regards to cab ends handrail fitment and get rid of the sound vibration/buzzing thru the roof panel then Accurascale will have a license to print money on these models and I will continually buy them as they get released. 9.5/10 for me.

Bought the same sound fitted green "Fred" and so far it's very good. I never had the Hattons version so have nothing to compare it to. Also thought the sound volume was quite low and don't know why they fit couplings to both ends at the factory as I would have thought most would only want to pull. Bought both driver packs so will fit one of those and change the buffer beam. I also have a Bachmann Red DB 66 fitted with a Hornby TTS (pcb is 21 pin) and uprated speaker and stay alive, but there is no comparison - lights are much brighter, no markers, cannot control rear lights, both cabs on together and bogie mounted NEM pockets, so no rear air deflector available. Maybe it needs a rewire then fit a 21 pin TXS decoder.

@mccarronfamily being one of the owners of Accurascale - Steve McCarron (just to give clarity to those who didn't know). There are a fair few people who have had motor issues and shared them (and a fair few that were put on RMWeb and removed at Accurascale's request by their friendly moderator). They will blame anyone and everyone else to deny the issues - it's clear the lifetime warranty wasn't just a step introduced to be nice, but something they introduced when the reports became widespread and could no longer be hidden. The reputation exists whether they accept it or not!

The Cav 56s do have their odd downside. Very easily fixed, but out of the box I've had issues. Both of mine had problems with the bogie geartowers where the retaining clip was loose causing loss of drive to the entire bogie. One also had the bogie sideframes not seated correctly, a design feature to make converting to P4 easy. This caused the axles in that bogie to twist, which alongside the unclipped bogie mount meant the model arrived totally dead in the water. One quick chat with Cav and 5 minutes stripping the model down and tightening everything up and it was perfect, but out of the box on arrival it was dead. Even so, I would argue the Cav 56 is the second best model on the market, only just behind the SLW class 25...that thing is a work of art.

Yes and Yes sadly! Sorry to jump in Eugene but i have both examples. The first G and W livery applied was to 66413 and it was in the lighter shade of Orange. The second 66623 went into a deeper shade of Orange and there on. Hornby and Hattons had already produced 66623 when Freightliner decided to amend the colour Orange by which time it was too late for them to change the livery so Accurascale didnt research this properly and obviously went off the Hattons example in the far lighter shade. The thing is the fantastic box art is the perfect tone of deeper orange, so when you remove the lid, it just stands out like a soar thumb. And agreed the EWS livery is too light and the Gold is more like a yellow.

I had vibration issues on two of the new 66s. This was not the DCC access lid, as the vibration continued with that taken off. I found it was more the fixing of the speaker to the PCB. This was fixed by removing the clips and using two pieces of black tack to hold the speaker down gently (not hard pressed down). The sound is also improved greatly by increasing the bass CV 196 and treble CV 197 settings (which allows slightly lower volume).

Exactly what I did, have sound vibration issues on 4 66's I purchased and removed the plastic speaker clips and used black tack instead to hold down the speaker but slightly raised off the PCB and on 1 66 it has improved the sound, haven't done the other 3 yet. I also added black tack to the end of the decoder chip between the PCB and the decoder and this has also removed some vibration. @@Simon-Davisyes and decided to go down the route of pre owned, a bad move that was, a fact! Items were not checked properly if not at all! Always remember they had a Rail road yellow 97 and they were asking - 159.99!! And that didn't include sound!

Eugene any chance you could do a review of the GBRf Railroad plus 73109 Battle of Britain with the TTX sound? Quite remarkable at 100.00, a better speaker used im sure!

im abit of noob with dcc, at 2:43 is there already a dcc decoder installed on this model, or when you put the loksound 5 into the pin socket, that is the dcc decoder itself. im just wondering, if i was to buy a loksound 5 with a sound speaker and stay alive, do i need to buy a seperate decoder for the loksound, or is it a decoder itself?

Assuming you purchase a DCC Ready model rather than DCC Fitted or Sound Fitted, there will be a small PCB installed in the DCC socket that is just a small passive board that is used to allow the model to work on a DC layout. When installing DDC or DCC Sound, you remove this small PCB first and replace it with either a basic DCC (non-sound) or a full DCC Sound decoder such as the Loksound 5. When you purchase the Loksound 5, it will contain all the DCC functionality you need and you will be installing it directly into the 21-pin socket.

Convincing sound effects. The only thing that's not realistic is that the engine sounds just as loud in the distance! Of course on a OO gauge layout, the actual distance can only be a matter of a few feet, but the scale distance would attenuate the sound. I think you might be able to attenuate the sound in Audacity to make it more realistic as the loco pulls away. Thanks for uploading!

Thanks for commenting. I've sometimes edited the sound in POST to create a more realistic effect as you describe. It does take a chunk as each individual segment needs to be edited.

@@EuviRail I thought about this after I posted this comment! I think it might be easier to set the volume lower on the speaker. A problem is the automatic gain control on the camera. Some cameras allow you to turn this off.

I think we're all hoping for the same. A line from Oughterard station and extending 3-4 miles beyond Maam Cross is probably the outer limits of reasonable cost. Any Billionaire benefactors out there?

Great stuff. My 66 landed a few days ago. May I ask where you got those hoppers from? I have hopper envy now 😂

I picked up the hoppers from Hattons a number of years ago (to go with the Hattons 66!). They are a combination of Bachmann 38-031, 38-032 and 38-032A with combination of factory weathering and a lot of custom weathering. After years on the shelf, it's their debut on the channel but they look good.

A good video, perhaps a little too long, it also would have been nice to see a Driver in the Cab ! I only use DCC sound on my ‘O’ gauge stock due to the Quality and the cost involved. I do also fit CREWS into all my Steam and Diesel stock !

Another belter from Accurascale! All seems fine with this new version of the old Hattons model, Accurascale seem to worked out all the old faults and produced a fine looking and sounding model. I have to agree with the comments elsewhere, although I’ve always been impressed with the sound from my Hattons model, it always sounded like it had too much bass - the whole loft seemed to shake!! Looking forward to your full review Eugene Cheers John b😎

Love all my Bachmann Class 66's and have 12 of them solid reliable models, but the Accurascale models are even better so hats off again to the Accurascale boys. I recieved the GBRf, DRS and GBRf prostrate cancer livery models about a week and a half ago and got the shipping notification that the Freightliner G&W orange charity one arrives early next week. Also exciting news was the Accurascale Class 60 announcement. Placed my order already and have a couple of Cavalex Class 60's on order so looking forward to comparing them. Again have to admit the Hornby Class 60 is an excellent model and have 8 of them but they still annoy me with there lack of liveries and the prices. Saying that you can get some real bargains now on Hornby Class 60's.

To be honest I’m a bit disappointed with some of the sound functions. Whilst I do agree the overall sound is very good I think some of the sound effects are set too low ‘out of the box’ e.g. coupling clank, door slam, sanders, rail joint. I did change the CV settings for these functions per the supplied functions card and this made a considerable improvement in these sounds. However, after I had done this I found the cab lights wouldn’t operate. I’ve now reset to the factory settings and the cab lights are working again. I would be very interested to know if anyone else has had a go at altering CV sound settings and how you got on. Another wee question is if anyone has the Evening Star do you have a bell sound on F17 & F18. I only get the bell sound on F17. Perhaps just a typo on sound function card supplied with the models. When I select F18 nothing happens.

I use a Lokprogrammer to change the CV settings for sound slots etc. thus works perfectly fine and its easy which I like. Yes the bell on the Evening Star only works on F17 and does nothing on F18 thus not sure why it assigned on the supplied card.

@@sapphirejunction8993Many thanks for the reply. Possibly just a typo on the sound functions list. Thanks for confirming that only F17 operates the bell. I don’t have a Lokprogrammer so rely on my Z21 to alter CVs. Did you alter CVs for coupling clank, door slam, sanding etc.? I can change all these CVs okay and increase sound levels but for some reason after I’ve done this the cab lights don’t come on. Bit bizarre. Just decided to return CVs to factory settings and cab lights and all sound & light functions are working fine. Still getting the distortion due to the removable lid. The finger push trick works for a few minutes. I’ll need to take some time to ‘experiment’

@@Andy1962-in-Kinross No I haven't altered any CV's apart from changing F15 Cab windows to have Spirax Valves instead but that didn't affect the cab lighting which is a bit bizarre on your one. That's the one thing that annoys me about Accurascale is there always something that interferes with the sound output. On my 4 class 37's I had crackling & distortion and it was resolved by swapping out the speakers from the supplied 4ohm to 8ohm which Accurascale put their hand up and supplied me to fit and that resolved the issues, apparently 4ohm didn't work properly because of the way they wired the speakers with the sugarcube which overloaded the decoder or something like that. I've had the sugarcube speakers replaced on both my Class 92's because they badly crackled when using the high horn so based on my own experience I think Accurascale still have a bit to learn before they can produce a loco that has flawless sound out of the box like the Cavalex Class 56 which I have. All 4 of my Class 66's have sound vibrating or distorting thru the removable roof panel at varying degrees and it comes & goes depending on how I've handled the loco but it takes away the enjoyment when presented with these niggly sound issues.

@@sapphirejunction8993Many thanks for sharing your experience with these models. I have a Cavalex 56 too and like you have experienced flawless sound and performance in general. I did have an issue with the couplings not returning to centre causing a few derailments of wagons & coaches. Changed the couplings on the loco and used some lube on the mechanism and this worked for me. I think the perfect model has yet to be delivered by manufacturers.
