The dumbest moment in the movie for me is the start of the final battle. Everyone is lined up, they rev their weapons, and then immediately get floored by a roar. That was one of the worst instances of destroying any type of hype, buildup, or excitement. Then, they all get taken out in 20 seconds a piece when they take turns fighting it one on one.

Marvel has totally Flanderized itself with its humor post-guardians and also gone woke to the point of killing itself. The combination of the two is destroying the studio, the most successful run of films there’s ever been. Killing itself from the inside. It’s ironic.

Incredibly done except for the dumb choice of continuing to shove Zendaya down our throats. She was arguably the lamest part of the movies.

7:09 I also like this part because he’s actually explaining the problem to Yinsen in a way that still keeps the audience interested. I always loved that we’re with Tony and watching him break down issues and try new things, rather than just random technobabble for one sentence and it’s automatically fixed. Feels a lot more realistic.

I think a good way to explain shots from the movie that appear to be outside the perspectives of the characters, or, as you called it, from the audiences’ perspectives, is that the true main character of Dune is Arrakis. Dune, the planet, is the main character of the first couple books and movies. It’s obviously a shared role, but the planet itself and environment are the, in my opinion, the foremost query that creates the necessary intrigue.

I feel like most Genius level characters in fiction may as well have magic. This can be fun when it's used knowingly as a plot device, like Rick from Rick + Morty or Iron Man. The problem is when it's used in a serious drama, and isn't well thought through. A genius character will just have all of their plans work because they are a genius, without any thought put into WHY it worked. Writing a good genius character takes research and advice from experts. Do you think the writers of Breaking Bad just happened to know that fulminated mercury looks like crystal meth? Of course not, but they did their research on chemistry and applied it to the show. Writing something good takes work.

Dune looks so much better than Mad Max Furiosa. It's the desert in both movies but compared to Dune, Furiosa just looks fake.

Denis Villeneuve is a fucking genius. Literally every film he's ever made is a homerun. He quickly became my favorite director. Can't wait to see what he cooks up for Dune: Part 3.

I don't know why i have to kept on returning to watch old pacific rim again and again Is it because i actually enjoying how giant robots are beating the crap out of giant monsters and the way how the realism is portrayed in first pacific rim movie I actually enjoy the old pacific rim movie because of how realistic they appear to be and my favourite part is the final underwater battle the main reason why i have to kept on returning to repeatedly watch first pacific rim movie

I wish people would promote the profitability of cult movies more. I think studios would be more ready to green light unique and risky films or new directors and stories if audiences were more open about ONGOING support. Cult films get purchased - which went from the norm to an absolute rarity overnight in the streaming era - compounded by piracy. I'm still happy to buy a great movie that I want in high-quality, that I want because I love it, or because I want it on my shelf as a statement or conversation piece even when I own it on multiple streaming platforms and could also get in any format for free at any time online and own that forever. Cult films also develop a deeper love for characters and worlds with audiences - we want to be a part of it, and that opens up huge merch opportunities which, if you know you know - merch is what makes the world go round. It's one of the highest-markups from cost to price in any industry other than ink (10,000% markup), horseshoe crab blood (honestly idk how you determine a fair market price for crab blood), and sodie-pop (6,000% markup). So much so that movie studios, who deal in quarter-billion dollar risks all day every day, take notice and interest. We buy the tickets. We buy the movies again when they actually come out. We buy the limited edition box sets. We buy the merch. We promote and defend it ourselves, grass-roots, to our friends and online to the world. It seems like such an amazing niche opportunity for a smaller studio to lean into. I guess at the end of the day, it's Hollywood. It runs on vanity and pride, and what a few good old mench's, and a couple acting legacy families (and their most attractive nieces and nephews) want to make.

I'd say Pacific Rim was made at very, very "goldilock" timeframe. When CGI was well mastered, hardware and software and people - available and experienced, but SFX / CGI things were not YET as much of commodity and under such pressure as in late Marvel movies. Also, concept for the movie seemd to be very well defined, without pretending being something it is not.

It's just the bureucracy of Hollywood and big companies. Practically made by one person... There's almost nothing interesting coming out anymore. Couple things every now and again but great series are just extinct. About 2015 onward feels like you just don't get original new series to be interested in.

I knew of space marines but otherwise knew little to nothing about Warhammer when I saw Astartes. Simply put the incredible storytelling is what drew me in and activated an intense desire to know more and see more. This dude single-handedly managed to achieve what the entirety of lucasfilm and Disney together failed to do with six Star war films; make the audience care about what they were seeing and give it gravitas without treating the audience like idiots. And to top it off, he did it without saying a word. The real skill here was balancing between showing the audience enough so they understood there were stakes and the objectives of the characters while giving us someone to root for. Genius.

I've just joined your community that your building and I have to say the quality of production you put out is fantastic. a movie that I think you'd enjoy for the quality and the story, the cinematography alone is amazing and yet it does so much more. the movie in question is "beautiful boy" starring Timothée Chalamet and Steve Carrell. I hope you do watch it and I hope you enjoy it and maybe make a video on it.

7 minutes in and this video has nothing valuable for me who clicked on it for advice for making characters that are smarter than myself. The first 5 minutes were just the re-telling of Iron Man 1 with no focus on him being smart, why? On one hand I regret not stopping watching this sooner, but on the other hand I'm writing this comment that hopefully at least some people will see and end up not continuing watching the video if they came here just for an answer to the question.

It really was a breakpoint for me, I’ve been exposed to 40k since my youth. I thought it was cool but not enough to grab my interest, Astartes is entirely responsible for my current fascination of 40k. I couldn’t give you one reason why, that fan film was the whole package, I know editing, I know sound design, I know film theory, practices, framing, story telling. I’ve taken classes about silent film, analyzed Stroker’s Dracula, taken courses in Maya, I know what I’m looking at. Astartes was the master’s thesis of it all in distillation, every second bathed in detail and purpose. It didn’t rival large studios, it surpassed them, the example of when someone finds their calling and is unrestrained in their execution of it.
