Nice and clear. But your 'rolling hitch' is basically a taut-line hitch, which is not all that secure. Better to pinch the first turn with the second crossing over it.... much more grip that way.

Great to hear! Good luck in your exams. Remember when you are looking at the lights to identify the kind of vessel. Start with the single red or green, its probably a sidelight, and the rest of the lights tell you what it is doing :-)

Question. I saw this in a movie. If the channel lights on your charts aren't exactly the same as the actual lights in the sea, is that suspicious, even if it's a slight difference? In the movie, it caused a shipwreck on coral reefs.

Hi, can you explain exactly which lights you are referring to ? Thanks 😊

There are many to choose from - however for beginners and at a simple level a bowline will do the job

refering to the tug lights (starting at 03:22): ColRegs rule 24 states tugs using 2 (or 3 if more than 200m) toplights "instead" of toplights (as per rule 23 a 1 and 2, which refers to the normal one (or two) toplights). I am now confused as of these tugs using the (tug-)toplights (2 or 3) AND toplight for indicating the tugs length (1 or 2 if longer than 50m). Thanks for enlighting me.

3 forward masthead lights can easily be confused or miss construed against 2 forward mastheadlights and an after masthead light. However, in any case, it would most likely be prudent to keep well clear.

According Rule 24 (a)(i) of Colreg : instead of the light prescribed in Rule 23(a)(i) or (a)(ii), two masthead lights in a vertical line. When the length of the tow, measuring from the stern of the towing vessel to the after end of the tow, exceeds 200 m, three such lights in a vertical line; Don't talking about the length of tug

Good explanation and useful knots. I tie my bowline using a slip knot once someone taught me how to do that. Much easier to remember than the rabbit/snake bit. Make a loose slip knot where you want the knot to be and then run the free end through the slip loop and bring it tight as if you were going to undo the slip knot. It pulls the loose end through and you have a bowline.

@EeekiE11 ай бұрын
Did the thing of searching KZbin for a topic and opening a load of tabs hoping to find one video that explains it well. This was that video. Nice work.
North, South, West, and East buoys, these are the cardinal buoys and they tell you which direction you must go to the safe water. Port and Starboard buoys tell you tell you where the safe water or channel is, normally entering a harbour or river. Safe water or sometimes called fairway buoy tells you where you can go and the isolated danger buoy tells you where you should not go. Special buoys indicate a special area for special activities. Emergency Wreck buoy indicates she a vessel has recently sunk, so probably best not to go there also. www.coastalsafety.com/buoys

The local party cove instructions. Drop anchor. Let it hit bottom. Tie it off. It’s ridiculous. People say it’s hard to anchor there. I use a grapnel on a 100’ line in 20 feet of water. Never a problem
