is it the same procedure for the 991.2? Also, is the final drive gear oil shared with the differential? I see folks replacing the gear and clutch oil but never talk about the rear differential so im assuming that it shares the same fluid as the gear oil?

Any idea what the torque specs are for the 13mm bolts on the triangular under-body pan?
@jackharding9811 күн бұрын
@richardwoodcock849 The Porsche spec is an initial torque of 2.4 Nm (2 ftlb) then torque to yield at a medium setting. I believe I torqued to 5 or 6 ftlbs. There is also a tightening sequence. If the pan was a house shape, #1 screw is very top right corner, then alternate in a star pattern like you would for wheel lug bolts.

Hello Jack, thanks for sharing your experience and knowledge of changing out the tranny fluids. I'm about to tackle this same project on my 991.1, too. I am wondering how you went about removing the 3 broken off studs from the drain pan? Much appreciated!Mike O
@jackharding9827 күн бұрын
@michaelodonnell-ib9rz knowing what I know now, I'd avoid the broken bolts by putting lube on the screws ahead of time. The bolts poke through, and the ends are exposed, so putting liquid wrench on them in advance and maybe even brushing with a small wire brush would be well worth the effort. I removed the broken bolts by working the bolt back and forth and then eventually drilling them out and re-tapping the hole with new threads that match factory spec. It worked fine, but honestly, I was a bit nervous and wishing I hadn't removed the filter pan.

Im having the same issue but on a JX35, the battery does not charge and the electrician informed me that I need to replace the IPDM. Does this method work also for this model since the wiring diagram is a little different? The wiring diagram shows a light green wire connecting from the IPDM to the alternator connector.
@jackharding98Ай бұрын
@@LeoOlguin-s9c The jx35 has a similar system, I looked it up once and put it in the comments somewhere. Try unplugging your current sensor at the battery first. That's an easy way to test this solution.
@Patron1029 күн бұрын
@@jackharding98I unplugged the current sensor and cut the ipdm wire to the alternator but there wasn’t any change in voltage. Does this mean the alternator is the problem or IPDM?
@jackharding9829 күн бұрын
@Patron10 It means you need more troubleshooting. An autoparts store like Autozone can test your alternator for free. I'd start there. Your alternator is what charges your battery. This video demonstrates how to disable VVCS. It doesn't repair alternators that aren't working. When you unplugged the current sensor or cut the IPDM wire (you didn't need to do both) you disconnected the Alternator from the IPDM. A working alternator would then charge the battery like a normal voltage regulated alternator without VVCS. If your not getting any charge, test the alternator itself. 👍
