Do you ever think you could make a guideline of what to learn in order? When i first started out, i did what many others did. Start with the anatomy and the muscles. But it never came out right, and i never understood it. As a beginner, i didn't even really know about gesture drawing. I think it would be great help to some if there was some sort of list that artists could follow while gradually getting higher and higher in the difficulty and having the proper foundation to improve further.
@theartofnemo21 күн бұрын
Hey! I made a fundamentals course for that. In general though, you might want to check out my "best way to improve your art" video, since it really is subjective beyond a certain point. The only thing you really need is spatial awareness/perspective, then the rest comes in the order in which you need it (you can have a teacher help you figure it out or check out the video/self critique list)

Ily sm for this, i really wish i saw this when i searched up ‘anatomy for beginners’ for the about three months ago. It literally took me about 5-20 mins to draw the base. Now all i have to do is learn how to properly draw hands, heads and the lower body. Your so underrated omg❤❤

I said it before, but I will say it again, these videos save my life! You are one of the best art channels with art tips/tutorials in my opinion. As an person learning video game concept art, I am really so thankful and glad for these videos. You really really deserve more recognizion. It would be cool to see a video about art learning plan, since many artists (including myself) struggle and don't know where to start/go next in drawing to improve. Since there is just so many things to learn, it can be overwhelming what to focus on next.

Hey, thanks for the kind words! As for the plan, usually I would say it's very personal. Did you already check out the "best way to improve your art" one? I don't remember if that's the other one you commented before. Definitely worth a watch, it basically teaches you to recognize the next step

This video's perfect for overthinkers who draw cause real life pictures will have a lot of detail to distract you from getting better. And to combat that overthinking, basically you gotta simplify something down to small components like a box or basic shapes then build up from there. I know this myself cause I spent most of my time overthinking as a beginner artist. Basically, you shouldn't expect yourself to get the anatomy immediately so it's good to settle for something simple to represent certain anatomy parts or expect that you will not be able to understand that excessive amount of info that comes from real life references in a small amount of time. Plus if you get references from art the most important thing is that you find what is consistent among the many references you study, that's what you'll improve on.

Any advise for drawing in different directions? I feel like when something is in a slightly odd direction my mind shatters. I am still very new to actually drawing art and my mind struggles to imagine simple things in 3D.
@theartofnemo25 күн бұрын
Hey, that's really personal, you'll always draw better in some directions vs others. Time makes the difference less obvious. but personally I find it easier to pull some lines rather than others, too
@jakezepeda126728 күн бұрын
I have trouble simply finding the gesture. I just cant figure out which direction the shoulder and hips are slanted sometimes and then have trouble with proportions. Started tracing in a figure over a couple poses then doing 1 or two not traced. Seems like it helps but feels like my brain is just not compatible.
@theartofnemo25 күн бұрын
Here is the trick: don't try to figure it out if it's ambiguous! Instead, just decide arbitrarily, then follow your drawing for the rest, rather than the reference

This was a Fantastic video that makes things... SO MUCH EASIER on my aspect. So I have watched and practiced other techniques from Other youtubers and how I often do my structure of the body is a mix mash between various things I have learned that helped carried my art to where it is, and that I'm just getting the Anatomy a bit better (Though my bigger issues is stuff liek eyes and maybe how the character is posed). so often I to have a box torso but I try to do things like Cricle joints and circle elbows/knees, Triangle for the pelvis (Even though I feel like it's been not helping me nearly as much as it could), and so on and so fourth. Though the Circle joints does not help and usually I end up drawing my lines to where it makes more sense rather than going out of my way to follow the circle and the Triangle pelvis that I usually draw looks more flat and makes things hard on. Basically my Method that I have been using has been scuffed and I needed to find a better way to draw the basic body itself. But, how this uses the Box method through and through just blew my mind! The cylinder and the structuring just made total sense while watching this. This will certainly be something I will keep watching and practice on to make my characters look a bit more proportionate. I appreciate this video and I hope that this can help carry my art further on a proportionate level! I will make you proud!

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS! REALLY HELPED BECAUSE I WAS SO HUNG UP ABOUT WHETHER OR NOT MY WORK WAS TRANSFORMATIVE ENOUGH OR TOO RELIANT ON REFERENCE! edit: can you make one about how to reference for creating backgrounds without copying the reference too directly?

I think the hardest part is visualizing how something will look like in a certain angle in 3D space. It’s. Like drawing a cube from many different perspectives. This is when referencing comes handy. I can’t draw without references.
@theartofnemoАй бұрын
It helps a lot to experiment using simple boxes and rotating them at pre-defined angles

For me I just don’t know where the arms and hands end. Like I can get the shape down to an extent but then I look back and I see the hand is a little too low or the elbow is too high. That sort of thing.

See if it helps to put the hand where you want first, then draw the two stick for the arm in a way it doesn't look too long or short
