I spoke personally with Lt Cdr Gershon in Daytona Beach, my senior year of college when he came to my school as Narrator for the Blues. He was an inspiration, during my career as an International Airline Captain these last forty years. I'm also deeply saddened by the tragedy that later took the life of his son. My most humble thoughts to their families.

Fast forward to 2023 and San Francisco in no way, shape, or form deserves a visit by the Blue Angels or a fleet week. Every year they come and every year the mayor complains about it. Most ungrateful city.

I had the opportunity and privilege of meeting Mike at the air show in Grand Junction Colorado back in, I believe, 1983 or 84. And we kept in touch for several years. My heart broke the day I heard the news.

Mike Gershon was one of my closest friends in flight school at Pensacola. A good man and a terrific Naval Aviator. Can still remember three of us watching an arrival show of "The Blues" in Pensacola in 1976 as Student Naval Aviators and Naval Flight Officers.

Thank you for your comment AK. I was fortunate enough to get a backseat ride with Mike back in '84. I do hope you saw the other two segments with the Blues here. Especially the one in memory of MG. kzbin.info/www/bejne/lWaTlqybjdKDfMk Great memories with a great aviator. Steve

The most amazing show. Every year they come to SF. I first met the Angels when they came into my swim club, I had no idea who they were,, " I ask who are you guys? " and they said we fly airplanes. they kinda of giggled. Lt Caputi said look for us in the sky. Boy they do more that fly airplanes. WOW these guys were not kidding, and they were humble and there are no words to describe what they do. Lt Andy Caputi sent me there poster, and he signed his name upside. I was in love. Its been years since, and I still watch these humble Pilots every year, and thank God they are on our side. Prayers

I am a retired Naval Aviator and aircraft accident investigator. This was the first accident I actually witnessed at the moment of collision. My sight was fixed on the parachute of the surviving pilot and not on LCDR Gershon's A4D. I happened to be dressed in a clown suit trying to entice autos passing by to stop at my brother's restaurant, "Champs" on the corner of Summit and Old Niagara Falls Blvd. No longer there, as so much of Niagara Falls except the Falls. I now live in Pensacola, Fl. Home of the Blue Angels and Cradle of Naval Aviation.

Today the Blues are back here in WNY! I just heard one take off from the NF base. Performing over the Buffalo waterfront for two days. June 2021. I was at the Carborundum seating area right on base when Mike was killed. So sad. R.I.P. my mother was VIP as she retired from Carborundum and was also a Rosey The Riveter at Bell aircraft during WW2. It happened right above us.

It's stunning to read the comments from so many people that were there and what an impact that event had on their lives. 75 comments and almost all were near first hand. Pretty neat. A misstep by almost any demonstration team pilot is smaller than the ones we all make everyday before we leave for work in the morning. Can you imagine living that GOOD? Dying that good? Tragic yes but,...So few of us humans will ever get the chance to leave this world so near to our most flawless performance.

I wish I still had the PM Magazine show that included some of this video footage prior to the crash. I accidentally taped over it at some point. I remember it included Gershon and Pat Walsh and covered the 1986 training period at NAF El Centro. I loved the A-4 Skyhawks, but sadly 86 was the final year and the 1987 season saw the Blue Angel F-18s introduced.
