I would thing a grade 8 bolt would be too strong to even shear..Toro PowerMax 824 oe which I bought this year states no shear bolts needed but I guess that's just for the auger ...Using snowblowers and having a few over the years I still don't trust NOT having shear pins or shear bolts... I was wondering if anyone has replaced the OEM bolts to shear bolts or even a zip graded bolt ??...Bolts are cheap...gear boxes are not..Even a gear box repair with labor and parts has to run the bill sky high...

To prevent that, you should install vertical vinyl or wood boards running along the horizontal ones. Could even use metal, probably the thinner the better but if you use really thin metal runners you’ll want to brace those with extra horizontal studs and completely eliminate those gaps.

... if you go 1/2 90 for backside then 3/4 x 3/4 for the brick mold and finish off with completed measurement ( 2 1/4) it comes out perfect...and make it in two pieces to keep the complete profile and caulk down seam if needed/wanted... i've spent 30 years wrapping windows, doors, louvers, fascia, eaves, and everything in between, we even figured out how to wrap round , oval trim where it looks reasonably good.. almost everything these days is pre fab composite wood or pvc, so this is definitely a fading art..keep at it

What a bunch of inconsistent information. Toro does NOT use shear pins in this or similar models as stated in their published videos. They do not expect these bolts to break. Their videos way that the engine should stall in "jam" situations. The bolt is: ".250-20X1.750,GR5,YZ" . And apparently grade 5, yellow-zinc chromate plated. Grade 5 relates to the strength of the steel, and the yellow-zinc plating is for corrosion-resistance. The fact that bolts are breaking and the engine is NOT stalling leads me to believe this is a poor design. I just drove out a piece of a broken auger bolt and see some deformation of the auger hole... another indication of a poor design.

Just received my Toro 824oe from Home Depot free delivery. The box was upsidedown in the truck . When i open the box the oil was already in the machine. Should I return this unit since the machine was upsidedown and fill with oil all day in the truck? Should i worry about the engine ?
@KenSlaton2 ай бұрын
Personally I would return it and get a new one. It’s not worth trying to fix because as soon as you do start to fix it you have a harder time returning it.

@ I am waiting for a replacement. Don’t understand why they would put oil in the machine when you know people will mishandle it when delivery by freight company

What happens when you have to trim? No room to haul away the junk on the trailer.
@KenSlaton2 ай бұрын
Typically i know about it ahead of time and might only take one mower and have room on the front. If not then i'll stuff it in the bed of the truck.

If you paint the trailer try using a mini foam roller. Really fast and you don’t overspray everything you don’t want paint on. A couple of thin coats. Rustoleum works great

Love the set up! What brand is the push mower. I too try to avoid push mowing when I can but some spots it just makes life a little easier. I just have a hard time spending $400+ on a push that seems to only last a couple seasons and none of them really cut so great. I have bought yard machine and now Toro but the Toro is just as crumby as the yard machine, just more expensive. Long and short I am looking for a more durable brand if possible. My main mower is a 52" Scag Patriot

My auger bolt sheared. How do I get the sheared bolt out, to clear the hole for the new one?
@KenSlaton10 ай бұрын
If you have the replacement bolt just line up the threaded end with the sheared bolt end and send it home with a hammer. It will then knock the old one out and also install your new one. Or take a punch to knock it out.

A good practice if you know an ice or snowstorm is coming is to raise your wipers away from the windshield in the position you'd use for changing the blades. They're much easier to clean off that way, the windshield is easier to clean and they'll then work when you need them to. My snow thrower is an antique but it still works well. A 1965 Ariens 10M4. It'll drive itself up the ramps into the truck, you just better hope you can still reach the clutch to stop it when it gets up there, LOL! Fortunately I'm 6'8" so it isn't a problem for me but someone like my Ma would have to walk up the ramps with it.
@KenSlaton11 ай бұрын
Its been working out with the ramps pretty good. Im 5' 11" so i just stop the machine when it reaches the tailgate then push it from there.
