Excellent review, best ive come across for the ie600. The ie600 sounds better all round. More detail, depth, emotional engagement. I'm using uncompressed lossless with a variety or sources (inc A&K se180baks lg v60). DACs include Chord Mojo 2 and Onix Alpha.

The problem with these headphones is when a driver goes bad. We can't find a replacement.

Hi an update, I bought the 660s2 open box for only £269, and just a bit better over my moded 6xx , but quite close . Great video. Also been experimenting with 1 1/4” thicker pads to see what the sound signature be like over the stock ones , only because my old hd575 have 1” pads and they sound great . Regards mark

For the price it costs and inclusion of WiFi I'm actually surprised they didn't include a sim tray to make it the audiophiles smartphone of choice. I mean it shouldn't have costed much more to make it a more versatile device for day to day use. They could also improve their customer base by making a decision like this. Not everyone can afford a $1399 smartphone and a $1300 walkman as a separate purchase but if they increased the price to $1500 to add the additional hardware required to make it a phone it can add a useful amount of product placement. If people are making phone calls on it it will be in view of the public eyes giving the device a bit more publicity and the hybrid design of Cellphone and high quality music device make it the go to choice as it's a all in one price rather than making the public pay for a cellphone and a music device separate.

I understand it may be an unpopular opinion but personally I find the price range of this device an upper class device while an iPod Touch is more Middle class. If it was a combination device of a cellphone and quality audio player I find it to be more of an accessible option for the middle class leading to a higher level of sales overall. I'd love to see the exact hardware in this combined with a cellphone. I'd hate to see the company cut corners to make a hybrid phone/music player with lower tier audio to be clear. By New Jersey income index I would be considered middle class and can't see this being a feasible option in the near future. I mean I might pick one up on eBay used at some point but as it stands the devices cost I could use on more important things to me at the time being like upgrading my home PC to make it faster for work and gaming, having a safety net if things happen to my car. With the modern day economy this is more of a luxury item rather than an obtainable one as much as I want it. Giving the public a device which meets multiple needs will surely boost sales. I mean it may not not be the most popular decision amongst audiophiles but from a sales perspective would you rather have your market aimed at the thousands of people who take music seriously or the millions of people who own cellphones. I honestly think it would be a bold move trying out the waters in the market but as long as the device delivers I'm sure it will gain traction. Although if they had a phone variant it may need to be a bit thicker for camera modules and electromagnetic shielding from the audio components to eliminate electromagnetic interference but it's definitely an obtainable goal to offer a product to the wider public. I'm not too concerned about convincing the general public they need a bulkier phone option. I think the target audience should be audiophiles who have a (One device to rule them all) budget. Probably make a different model of this product within the same lineup.

I wonder how these would compare to the AKG K812. I know the sonic signature would most likely be a bit different but price wise is pretty close and they are both kinda the flagship of each company.

I own both. Momentum 4 sound quite a bit better. Tighter, deeper, punchier bass, way better midrange and treble. Px7 s2 is bright, and it lacks soundstage. It also colors the sound more by really pushing the distance forward, so it can get really fatiguing. Sennheiser sounds more neutral, natural, and clear, with significantly more realistic sounding bass. Px7 s2 sounds a bit congested and less detailed overall.

You nailed it. The Noire is very natural sounding in comparison here. I got the Noire to replace my LCD 2 Closed as the LCD was to forward in the highs. I like that the Noir fold up, but they are low sensitivty so hard to get a good amp for hotel travel I ended up with the Gryphon and that does a very good job of powering the Noire. Great video!

Hey guys. Has anyone paired the HD 650 with the CXA81, I like the sound and stage that the Cambridge, has and it would be good if the 650 had that decent midrange. Second question, how do the M3s compare to the HD 650? Thanks 🎉

Just spent a few hours with both. I have owned a pair of HD600s for a decade (or more) and love their sound. And I've never enjoyed the B&W speaker sound - too bright and clinical for me. So, I was really surprised how disappointing the Sennheisers were. The bass is prominent - but not in a good way. The bottom end has bloom and tramples over the mids. It's not a though they lack detail or presence - but it's tiring trying to get past all that 'Beats teenage' tuning. Then the PX7 S2e (catchy name that) went on and 'Wow!'. They impressed me immediately. Bass on Lou Reed's "Walk on the Wild Side" felt solid but not mushy'. I could hear Herbie Flower's twinned bass line clearly and Reed's vocals were warmer than the HD600s - but very well presented. I played a ton of acoustic stuff and they are cohesive and musical. Moving to Janos Starker's excellent recording of Bach's cello suites was equally rewarding. The cello has great timbre and I feel I can hear both the fretting and the woodiness of this gorgeous cello. open.qobuz.com/album/0090266143627 The Momentum 4's went back. I can't afford the PX8 but I'm tempted...

I have both IE200 & IE600, and the IE900 as well. The IE600 are clearly the most balanced sounding, but I use the other two IEMs way more often. I bring the IE200 everywhere since they are supremely comfortable, and the IE900 just sound best with my EDM library, the bass is just out of this world.

Many thanks for the comparison! I first bought the 40n, shortly afterwards a Marantz Cinema50. The 40n (also the 30) has an amp-in to connect the Cinema and the stereo-amp and use the speakers from the stereo for the front of the home cinema. Unfortunately, both (Cinema & 40n) use the same remote control codes. If I only want to listen to stereo, the Cinema also switches on... That's why I bought the Model30. You can change the codes on this one. I also have to say that the 40n sounds a bit warmer and rounder. The 30 is a bit more analytical, with more detail, but unfortunately drier in the bass, less fun. However, it can handle my Canton Reference 7K better due to its higher output power. Both have been here for a year now and I can't decide which one to give away. But everyone here is talking about the DAC and the streaming function in the 40n... you actually buy the Model30 together with the SACD30n, which gives the Model30 an external DAC and the streaming function...

@op, great review and comparison! However, for your amp.suggestions in the description, you're kidding me right? Four figures for a headphone? That's ridiculous. I wouldn't spend that on a set of speakers, let alone a headphone amp. Getting realistic, How about recommending an amp under $500?

Hello... I am using a 5v 1a charger to charge the walkman and I noticed that it takes 2 hours and 30 minutes from zero unlike the computer where it took the 4 hours advertised. Is it normal that it lasts less or is the charger inadequate?

This is indeed a very underrated channel. Exactly the kind of review and information I was looking for, especially pairing with an amplifier. I just ordered the Quad ERA-1 to replace a pair a cheap Sony MDR-7506 that I finally managed to kill. Unfortunately I am pairing with my Fiio K11 DAC with a somewhat limited output. If the ~700mW from the single-ended output is insufficient, I'll try to find a balanced cable and run it from the ~1400mW balanced output. Otherwise I have an excuse to upgrade the DAC as well. :-)
