One thing I have trouble with when completely changing the background is that it will alter the subject as well. It does better with a less precise selection. For example, your son's ear changes in almost every version of the generative fill, as well as the girl's hair. Is there anyway to avoid this? I've also had trouble with large expansions like the grass by the house. I've tried to replace parking lots under construction with new looking parking lots and the results are usually warped looking. Any tips?

Thanks Matt for great videos. I actually ditched Adobe for pricing reasons but Photo AI I cannot live without so my combo is now Darktable for raw processing and library, Topaz for my wild life photos with higher noise and Affinity Photo for more advanced edits. That combo is not as easy to use as Adobe but more reasonable money for a hobby photographer.

I'm still on a bench whether to fully migrate to Lr. In your personal workflow, are you using Lr exclusively for all your photos or are you more in a hybrid flow?
@MattKloskowski13 күн бұрын
Hi. I stopped using it 18 months ago for my photography. But I have it open nearly everyday because I still teach it, since the vast majority still uses it. For me it’s LR all the way. Thx
@nick-khan13 күн бұрын
@ Thanks for reply. It indeed simplified my workflow too. No need for color labels, nested keywords. But one thing I’m missing is batch photo rename so it also renames sidecar XMP files accordingly to not lose track of meta and edits. Doing that manually is tedious. How do you accomplish that yourself?

How can I do this now that brushes seem to be mask oriented? I can't get this to work with LR updates since this video was posted?

I had to really search for photos with reflections just to give this a try. I did find a few, finally, and got some interesting results. In one photo, the result was that it provide most of the reflection instead of what was on the other side of the window. I had to drop it to -100 to actually get the removed view. Even then, it definitely wasn't perfect as there were other parts that it thought were reflection and weren't, and vice versa. Fun little tool though, and now I'm not going to be nearly concerned about eliminating reflections.

One solution to a problem is to move your photographs and other Lightroom files to an external hard drive now and be ready for the inevitable move that will occur one day. The external hard drives are so inexpensive and have the very latest technology and size that you will find that adding the external hard drive now much easier to do than waiting until your old system fails and you are in a panic. Than doing little more than plug & play will get you up and running.

Thanks for this video Matt. Like you I have been debating whether Topaz is worth it. Most of what I have seen were images that looked plastic and over processed. I suspected that people were using too much of the Topaz tools and this video proved that. I have since purchased Topaz and am liking it. I use it for noise, sharpening and upscale. I don't like what it does with anything else so I move it back to Lightroom for that. One issue I have is that I share on Flickr and have since 2006 so I'm a long time Flickr member. The problem with using Topaz, going back to Lightroom and then posting to Flickr that the information on the camera and the lens used on the photo is lost. It does not show up like it does when I use Lightroom alone. I like that information to show. Is there a workaround for this? Thanks for all your videos and help. I steer people your direction all the time as I think you have some of the best tutorials and your teaching method is so easy to follow...

what about edits that were done using Lightroom classics? Can we still do additional edits via the Lightroom if they were done via LRC initially?

Multiple Issues: You said LR now allows plug-ins. Does it always export to the plug-in as a Tif? I can't find a way to "Edit in...." to DxO PureRaw 4. and if I send to PhotoLab8 it goes but goes as a Tif, and again you cannot use DxO Noise Reduction (Prime or Deep Prime) on a Tif. If I export to TopazAI it works on my Intel machine. However Topaz will not install on my Yoga Snapdragon (ARM64) so I end up with no NR available on my Snapdragon machine. LR Denoise runs SLOOOW (talking 10 min) on the ARM64 Snapdragon Processor. Thank you for any help you can offer.

Hi. Check out the plug in workflow video I did a few weeks ago. Thanks
@alankefauver618729 күн бұрын
@@MattKloskowski Did that. Very comprehensive but doesn't address the fact that you cannot send to Dxo PR or PL8 from inside LR like you can in LrC. where you go from "Plig-in Extras" and the RAW is exported. PureRaw is much better than PAI if you are a M$# shooter. Thanks.
@MattKloskowski29 күн бұрын
Hi. I was able to add DxO as a plug-in through the File > Edit In. Or if you want the raw file, Right click > Show in Finder > Open in DxO. It's a browser. Just open the file in whatever you want. Doesn't really matter that there's no menu for it. It takes the same number of clicks as if there was right?
@alankefauver618728 күн бұрын
@@MattKloskowski Thank you. I am on windows, and when I use Edit-in, LR sends a Tif (not a RAW) to either/or PR4 or PL8 and PureRaw nor Deep Prime will not do NR on a Tif file. Going from Explorer to DxO works then I add the pic into LR. Kludgy and why I stick with LrC. Adobe needs to fix this. Thanks for your help though. I enjoy and learn from your KZbins. No reply is necessary. ps: I like your stuff on the Photoshop Virtual Summit 5 and 6.

@@alankefauver6187 when you use “ file>edit in “ the file will not be raw anymore. It will be .tiff which is not usable for PureRaw.

Converting a black & white timeline video to a smart object allows you to use neural filters and colorize it. Then click on the little render button to get a color video. Warning: if you're doing a movie with half a million frames it will tie up your machine for 2 or 3 days. :-) Adobe if you're reading this, the colorize filter needs more work.

Totally agree that when Lightroom added the local option, I changed my workflow. Lightroom made it a heck of a lot easier to switch out between my notebook and home desktop, never having to deal with a very large catalog. I still don't know why a certain somebody refers to Lightroom as a child's version. I'm glad that I gave it a chance, your course was the icing on the cake.

geat new feature and tuto. Can you please explain, when you use lightroom, how you digest your sony A1 sd card on win computer with some basic folder naming (ie: 2024-12-13_birthday party) ? With LRC it is very convenient. Using bridge just to do that is time consuming. photo mechanic is time consuming. Sony software ? Also browsing in win explorer the SD card DCIM folder to copy paste all raw into a folder we rename later... is tedious. So, at final, i still use LRC for importing and exporting/printing (print possible in LR ?) and so, keep editing inside LRC so can't switch to LR.
@MattKloskowskiАй бұрын
Hi Marc. I plug a card reader in to my computer and copy the photos to a folder. Not sure how to make it more complicated than that, and not sure what other features I would need. Personally I've found LRC for this, anything BUT convenient :-) Thanks.

Just tried this Lightroom version for the first time after years of using Bridge/ACR. I like it, but...no solo mode in the panels section and no adaptive beta profile...so will stick to Bridge/ACR.

Hi… It does have solo mode. It’s just called what it should be called… “single panel mode” As for profiles… can’t say I’ve heard anyone say they really like them since they came out. I’m sure they’ll end up in all adobe apps but if you need them now there’s your answer.

I'm disappointed that LrC still hasn't been given the new ACR updates, especially the Denoise function NOT creating a separate DNG file.
@MattKloskowskiАй бұрын
Hi. Remember the ACR updates you're speaking of, aren't "updates". They're "technology previews" which basically means beta - and if it's not made it out of beta yet, you probably don't want it included in Lightroom primetime. If Adobe released it, and it caused crashes, people would be upset too right?

@TomasRamoskaАй бұрын
I don't like the fact that you need to close the image in Photoshop just to see the copy appear in Lightroom. I often like just to compare the newly edited images in Lightroom Classic before I close it in Photoshop with my previously edited images. That way if colours or brightness is slightly off I can always go back to Photoshop make the necessary adjustments and re-save it again quickly. This is how it works in the Classic end I prefer it for speed and consistency.
