Hey you related to Tx Tool Crib? Kinda sound like him, and also make great multi tool vids. I have both of these and the Rocktol Surge clone. Really love the improved toolset on the Multper, and the included scalpel holder, but I wish there were larger cutouts around the liner lock tabs. Operating the other two much smoother and easier.

I did the same 6x2 magnet mod on mine. All these Chinese made clones still use ball detent even though most customers I think would prefer a magnet. I also used one of those $10 rotary tools from Harbor Freight to carve out the metal around the lock tabs, was a fun little project and now the tool is so much easier to use. Happy New Year!

This is my conclusion as well. HiFinder consistently has a better lock up but lower quality blade steel, although it’s still respectable. They do offer M390 versions now though! The 7075 aluminum on the fake is also better than MT’s 6065.

@hiding_my_nameАй бұрын
@GigiEDC Forgive me, I dont know much about the names of the pieces, but the screws came loose in the piece that keeps the blade in the channel that it slides in. It popped out and lost it. Even though there are two screws, losing the one was enough to affect it's integrity to the point where it wasn't safe to use. I bought it from Amazon though, not the retailer you mentioned. Pretty sure it was the same knife though. Came in a fake Reote box.

9cr18MoV is objectively better than 420hc. It has double the carbon, as well as an almost 50% higher concentration of (potential) carbide forming elements. Assuming even a moderately competent heat treat, the performance difference would easily be noticeable. Geometry is more important, and the surge is ridiculously thick. Mine's 40 thou BTE. So basically, not only is 420hc in a race against a faster opponent, it also has a 40lb weight attached to its ankle.
@GigiEDCАй бұрын
Thank you for this information! Very helpful. I’ve had great experiences with Leatherman’s 420HC but not so much with 9cr18MoV, of course they were cheaper knives and they could’ve been heat treated poorly. Definitely looking forward to testing out the 9cr18MoV more after your comment.

I have clone Microtech Halo that was reviewed by a KZbinr. He mentioned the specific seller and maker. Zero play. Strongest spring of any OTF I have owned. I held it up to an original and it is a duplicate. Now a Gravity Knife will have more play for sure. Glocks have sloppy tolerences on purpose. I think G Knives employ the same philosophy. Pocket lint, dirt, excess oil/lube is not going to jam it because tolerences are less. My main concern would be the lock up button being loose. Don't want that thing turning into a thigh impaler while walking around.

From Russia with love! ❤ I managed to get my hands on an original Combat Troodon Gen 3, although I won't tell you how, of course. This knife is a beast! @yuriistetsenko5948Ай бұрын
@@GigiEDCIt was never easy. 😁 If you mean sanctions, they have nothing to do with it, Russian stores still sell knives of European and American manufacture. They are just more expensive than before. Russian law prohibits automatic knives with a blade longer than 90mm, but hey, our knife laws are, oddly enough, some of the most lenient in the world! After all, even in America, as far as I know, there are places where Ultratech and Launch are only a dream. Prohibited knives are sold in our country by private individuals who somehow bring them through customs. You can buy and keep a prohibited knife at home, but you should not walk around with it on the street! If our cops catch you with such a knife, they will confiscate it, and they can also fine you, although the fine is small. Parting with a knife is much more offensive than getting a fine! Thank you for your kind words! ❤ When this is all over, come visit us again. I hope to visit the USA someday. I have already made a list of places that I will visit first. The Grand Canyon is first on this list. 👌

Lots of companies just love charging premiums, either cause they're just the first, or their commercial situations push for it more than their actual material and labor costs. Can't really defend spending multiple times what other people are charging for the same typa stuff while still making profit, american or not. At a certain point it becomes a scam.

How is the spring tension on the lock? I care very little about the action. Yeah I know absolute blasphemy now in the knife world. My dream would be a spring stiff enough that it was right on the edge of being difficult to disengage. I don't fidget with my knives and you know part were it is the spring pushing the little part that keeps the blade locked open. Lol. Thanks
@GigiEDC3 ай бұрын
@@Bellabear88I hear you brother! The spring tension is on par with a Benchmade, maybe a little bit tougher but by no means would I say it’s tough. The only reason it’s difficult to disengage with one finger is due to the geometry of the switch in my opinion. If not for that, you can get it with one finger without issue. It’s possible that there’s springs online that offer more resistance?

So I’d like to have a Vespa version with serrated blade to use everyday at work as a flight paramedic. I used otf for over 10 years now and microtech has disappointed me more than ever lately wish they could help us long term customers more.
@Skylark4273 ай бұрын
Did you get it from a vendor? Usually venders will exchange them for you within 30 days. Also, if you bought directly from Microtech, send them an email and explain the situation. They will make things right. I've seen so on the Microtech sub on reddit. The vespa will run you another $200+ and be YJ01-V1 (sprayform M390) and not real M390, I've seen the composition sheets so yeah, it's the sprayform version. You'd be better off asking for an exchange and getting the one you want without having to spend an extra $200+
@Skylark4273 ай бұрын
Other possible things to consider, with it being YJ01-V1, it'll chip or crack more easily if you drop it, and with them not using titanium hardware (screws, "X" button) the iron in the steel or stainless steel screws will eventually corrode the aluminum. Microtech definitely wants to protect it's name. If you bought directly from them, contact them and they will make it right. Just my honest opinion vs spending an additional $200+ on another knife when you can get yours exchanged.
@ShaneO-nm2hh2 ай бұрын
@@Skylark427sure your not thinking of twosun? Because it is bohler M390 on this model. My cousin who lives in Australia works at Mechtest and did a precision OES and some high tech xrf test and came back as M390. There are also videos and posts with full analysis on Reddit.
