Vespa Combat Troodon Gen III Clone (Big Dragon) Overview

god dang, these clones have stepped up their game! From close inspection, the torx screws, glass breaker, and blade color is slightly off but it could be your camera for the torx. The blade is instantly noticable when you brought out the gen II blade, the stonewash color is different on all of my gen III otfs. Glass breaker was also hard to tell without taking it apart! The choil on the clone sticks out less than the real. But at the glance it would be very difficult not knowing what to check, I was absolutely astonished, then I saw the price at 180 and it made a lot more sense! Internals are for the most part smaller than the real deal. also seems to be less (i dunno a good word for it, but) reinforced? and the blade placeholder is a clear obvious, but most probably won't even open it, so there's no way in telling. I'm assuming that was you on reddit who showed the internals, thank you for that! I bet you get a lot of negative flack for getting both originals and clones, even if it's just to compare. I'm not a clone fan myself, but I like to see how good clones have gotten, extra knowledge doesn't hurt! Without you, I would not have known about these clones and what to watch out for, truly appreciate it!

I really appreciate your comment brother, it means a lot! You nailed the differences better than I did. After going back and looking at EdgedMindset’s video of the CT Gen III the internal differences were more obvious but I still think the clone’s quality is surprisingly good. Hell, even better in some aspects. The 7075 aluminum, for example, is noticeably tougher than the genuine’s 6061. It’s many times harder to strip the threads in the fake. As for the second part of your comment, I do get some hate for buying clones/counterfeits but I enjoy it! Microtech refuses to acknowledge them. In their videos they review fakes and the real thing but they always take the worst clone and say it’s the best counterfeit available. This doesn’t help anyone. It’s dishonest and it makes it easier for people to be fooled. If nothing else, I want to let people to see the real differences so they don’t get scammed. I’m looking forward to comparing this one to my real Gen III.

Thank you very much for subscribing and commenting! It means a lot! To your question, yes Eknives is an authorized dealer and a good one. BladeHQ and other sites are good but I do like that I can email a dealer like Eknives or NCBlades and get a response. I asked both Eknives and NCBlades to check my last two Combat Troodons for defects and they did it without question. I’d recommend them. Take care!

The Vespa Big Dragon on the site is a generic unbranded in pics. Did they stop putting on the fake logos?

To my knowledge, no. They’re still putting the logos which I don’t particularly like. They just take them off for the photos. Thanks for your comment!

It makes me sad that Chinese are making better quality seems like than usa made. I’ve used to buy last decade only usa made things generally but lately I can’t justify anymore why i have to pay 3 times as much for usa rather than china made. Just makes me sad cause microtech knives were just awesome in every way

I completely understand you. When I sent my last one in, I typed out a letter basically saying what you said. The quality control is so hit and miss it’s hard to justify the price. For what it’s worth, I heard that many people in their QC were fired so we’ll see if it gets better. Take care my friend!
